Now being linked with Newcastle:
Hopefully not going anywhere but then we don’t want to lose him on a free .
Wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to leave, with sides like Villa interested that can offer him more money and no relegation clause. Having said that I really hope we can keep him as I could see him being a future captain.
Newcastle have dismissed it.
There'll be some interest I'm sure.
Maybe he's waiting to see what his other options are before he signs any new contract.
Don't want to lose him for free, but were he be the difference to keep us up it'd be worth it to let his contract run down.
Would probably be a good thing if Newcastle were interested as it would drive the price up a bit. Realistically, if he wants out and we’re not paying him what he wants he’s gone, so may as well maximise his value.
Will Hughes sign?
Will Hughes, sign!
From the jocks-with-their-brains-blown-out:
My expectation is the club saw Will’s interview saying he would not consider leaving so low balled him on the contract offer.
I think it's all done and they're going to link it to the kit release, which I'm assuming is next week.
Alternatively he's turned us down, is training on his own and will be sold for £2m to Brentford.
Gone to Muff apparently
Gah I'd be so frustrated and gutted if he left. He's nailed on to be the captain once Deeney's time is up and he'd fulfill that role so well.
Wouldn't blame him if he left, part of me wonders if we are lowballing him for whatever reason. Which is madness considering how many strikers we have signed this window.
That makes little sense, it doesn't explain why he's not turned up for pre-season yet unlike basically everyone else who was expected to.
How do you know he isn't there?
Is he. Xisco gave the captaincy to Clevs and Chalobah more often I think?
He is there. There was a video with him on Foster’s social channels I believe.
Although I do suspect the social media team are told to focus more on some individuals and not to feature others.
Yes, when Foster begged him not to go to Villa.
Ah alright, the way other posters had talked about it I thought it sounded like Foster was just talking about Hughes on his podcast, not that he was actually there.
Because Chalobah's contract situation is famously watertight!
Yeah, my follow up post got lost in the migration, basically Newcastle's Sky pundit said they weren't interested
Chalobah seems to really up his game when he plays with the armband on. Whereas, I think both Cleverly and Hughes are more 'lead by example' types and do that regardless of the armband.
I wonder / hope all this noise is coming from his agent trying to get him a better contract.
Will was extremely loyal to Derby. He's a really good egg. He was one of the only players who really fought hard in the relegation run in. Exactly the type of person we need at the club. I'm sure he'll stay if we offer him a decent contract. My concern is we won't.
Get Hughes and Chalobah new contracts. Keep Sarr. Lose Gray, Success, Penaranda, Perica, Navarro and we'll have had an excellent window
I thought it was reported somewhere (wo maybe) that we had offered him a contract that was much improved on his current one. The same article quoted Hughes as being happy to stay at Watford and he was leaving negotiations to his agent. That was a good few weeks ago so I don't know what the hold up could be. Unless the report was wrong it doesn't appear to be that We're low balling him
He hasn't been seen for weeks apparently. He's either gone to Villa or got lost in Siberia.
Steve Bruce wants Hughes but not his scouts.
That info probably comes from official club sources. I fear Gino may be tempted to cash in and replace him with a cheaper alternative. I'm concerned the club are trying to soften up the fanbase with these tales of a much improved contract and will spread rumours of greed/disloyalty if he leaves. Will is clearly neither greedy nor disloyal. He stayed in the champo when the rats were deserting the ship and was absolutely instrumental in the 433 system that got us promoted. Some players are worth much more than their market value to their club and Will Hughes is one of those players for us.
"....It remains to be seen if Bruce can convince those at St. James’ Park of a move for the Englishman, who is currently training away from Watford’s first team squad...."
We want to cash in, obviously.
It's a shame, but we have no money so hey ho.
So Hughes "is currently training away from Watford’s first team squad", so yeah unlikely he'll suddenly be used for the kit launch.
Also, Newcastle's scouts sound sensible.
Not doubting his loyalty, and if he goes, it could well be that he was forced out because we're skint, but...he had surgery between seasons, if he were fit, I'm sure he'd have been snapped up
I'm sure insidefutbol are all over the goings on at Watford...
No surprise you're acting like a prize **** about the whole thing though.
