I don't disagree with any of that. But I also know he's 34 and legs don't last forever. So let's wait more than one game before we declare things as such certainties.

Agreed if you extrapolate 60 mins up to a full season. On the same basis Louza should never play for us again.

Or maybe let's wait for a whole one game rather than 2/3 game before deciding...

Why bother? Evidence is so overrated. Instant snap judgement is where it’s at these days.

I see your point but I don't agree Hughes has a choice yet (teams hardly falling over for him). The situations are similar imo though the big difference is we could do with the cash and Hughes is more replaceable than Kane is to Spurs.

I think when a player has three years on their contract the situation is completely different to when they have one, the dynamic is completely different. Kane didn’t want to stay at Spurs and would’ve left if it was down to him, but he’s got 3 years on his deal so has absolutely no say in the matter, regardless of how many interviews he does with Gary Neville telling the world he wants to win trophies.

Unlike Kane, Hughes had a choice and he has chosen to leave. The window isn’t shut yet but it seems absolutely certain he’ll be at another club by the time it closes. It doesn’t really matter how many choices he had, he only needs one other club.

He always does. Last preseason Quina was going to destroy the championship. By winter the owners were disasters. Now we are back up everything is great again. He blows around according to the prevailing wind.

I don't know if Kucka can produce performances like Villa all season, but I do know that if he can play like that on his debut in a new country in a new league after the career he's had there's a better than average chance he's got a higher skill ceiling than Will Hughes (who I cannot recall putting in a performance of the calibre of Kucka's debut in any of his many top level appearances).

While it's fair to question how well a 34 year old's legs will hold up in a more physically demanding league, Hughes' injury record of late hasn't been good. He might not be up to it either.

Difficult to disagree, I don't think 2 years would be a problem if we were Watford ot 3 years ago (ie semi established) but we are where we are

The same Caps and Doucs you were happy to see the back of as Quina and Dele-Bashiru were better than them?

I genuinely admire that you can post that Palace will be mightily disappointed and then a short while later say you wanted him to stay and not see the glaring holes in your own logic.

He did ok for us, we have already adequately replaced him (on paper we have improved in him), got a good fee for a player in the last year of his contract who didn't want to be here anymore, and Hughes gets a change of scenery, a payrise and no relegation clause

I don't think we will notice he is gone, pretty much a good deal for everyone

I think we have to take into account the fact that we no longer have Capoue and Doucouré tbf, Hughes isn't of that quality, but he's a decent, and relatively proven, Premier League player

We have landed on our feet if we swap Hughes for Sissoko. I have said this plenty of times on here and eleswhere before but I just don't get the hype about Will Hughes. Yeah he is a neet player and looked good last season when he eventually played, but we were mostly playing against **** teams. He had a good spell under Pearson as well but what is it he does that is so special? He don't score many goals, he don't assist many goals and he is incredibly slow. I am not saying that he is a terrible player but some Watford fans go on like he is prime Zidane.

  22. Should be remembered at least for the touchline backheel to feed Troy to get Sarr away for 2nd against Liverpool.

Decent player for us over the years but not irreplaceable.

Understand his reason for leaving, why would he sign a deal with a 50% relegation clause if he didn't have to do it elsewhere.

I think Hughes' biggest strength if also his biggest weakness. He's a reliable 6/10 player - rarely less than that but rarely more than that either.

You get mostly the same thing out of him every game: solid performance, generally few if any errors, but generally very little that's spectacular either. He's the sort of player that thrives against inferior opposition but doesn't help against comparable or better teams. He's a top Championship player but I don't think he offers much at Premier League level that you can't replace fairly easily.

I'll remember him as the guy who lied to the fans and then ended up with a choice between Palace or Burnley. Good for him that he got his big move though.

The weird thing about this and the Gray thread is that when I went up to Burnley away a few seasons back they both scored crackers. I may be in the minority here but I was a big fan of Hughes.

Although it could be said it’s disingenuous to talk down his ability now he’s leaving I think it’s equally disingenuous to scoff at him moving to Palace.

Taking my yellow tinted specs off, if I’m Will Hughes has my career really progressed over the past four years? We change managers like the wind, he’s regularly been played out of position, who knows where he would be when we inevitably change manager again, and again and so on.

While it could be considered a gamble or a sideways move by some, with my yellow tinted specs still off, I can see why he would want to roll the dice elsewhere, because he hasn’t exactly progressed much with us. What is the worst that could happen? He’s got greater financial security if it all goes **** up and palace go down, but the opportunity to try something different with another club.

Yep, I think he was good and did a good job for us. Skilful and had a bit of grit. But a touch below top class and is ultimately replaceable.

McArthur and Kouyate are getting on a bit at 33 and 31 respectively, Hughes isn't exactly 'one for the future', but he's young enough and is very good depth at the very least in that squad. Having said that, looking at them on Tuesday, they most need a reliable striker, and someone to put the ball on a plate for the strikers, Hughes isn't either of those, although you'd expect Olise and Eze can fulfil the latter

not sure what more you could have wanted from a player really
