I do not want to appear hornetier than thou, but Watford was my first love and it will be my last. Hornets of the futureeeee and Golden Boys of the pa-a-a-st.

Although admittedly I wasn't quite born under a rookery roof, the first professional football I ever saw was Watford. I was a ball boy there when I was a youth. When you could wear your own football tops at primary school, I was one of the very few who sported the old gold amongst a sea of scornful red, blue, white and claret. I cleaned snow off the pitch to get the Forest tie on. I bunked off school in the afternoon to go on evening away trips. I tied my silk scarf on my wrist and delighted and suffered. Lots of pre-GT/Elton suffering. Lots and lots. Older comrades will agree with me on that.

I moved to Kent for a while and tried watching Gillingham. Couldn't get into it. Couldn't care less who won or who lost. Felt no affinity. An impartial outsider looking in. Stopped going after two or three games. I did show up for Gillingham v Watford youth games on freezing Saturday mornings - a solitary touchline rookery in my WFC scarf.

As for other teams there are one or two I particularly dislike, the obvious which I shan't bother repeating on a family message board, then there's arrogant cheating dirty 1-0 Arsenal who in their day made Knockhart look like the gentleman captain of the 1950s Corinthian Casuals. I can't stick bloody Arsenal and far less their big mouth, know nothing, ginger-headed fans.

Apart from that, I couldn't really give a flying fack one way or the other whether team A beats team B, except in how that affects Watford. I absolutely don't care. Man Ure/City v Liverpool? Muff v Palarse? Don't care. I hope they both lose. I hope some of both sides star players get season-ending injuries, if they have to play us soon.

The only slight flicker of interest is if there's an Ex-Hornet playing for one of the teams, but even then I don't care if they win or lose. (See Marvin Sordell's catalogue of comical misses for some team or other on Sat who lost or possibly won or drew - can't remember).

Eternal shame and damnation on those who have STRAYED from the path of righteousness! Brazenly and without shame confessing to anyone who cares to listen that they've been seeing other teams! Lincoln Bloody City my arse! We should tie you to a stake and chuck rocks at you until you repent, in the same way as they chucked rocks at us in the pitch black after that evening match when we tonked 'em 5-0 or 5-1 or something. They were stood at the top of a big grassy bank and you couldn't see the rocks coming at you - just hear them smashing into the cars that were parked along the road. You had to dodge from car to car like the wild west. And yet you wan't to look out for their results? Shame I say! Shame! Boooooooooooooooo!

Top one seems more legit but looks good - would love to have an alternative to negative holebas. I think he has decent technical skill (nothing special) but his defending, crossing, positioning, tendency to get carded (discipline in general) and overall attitude isn't good enough for what we are aiming for. Can't wait to (hopefully) see someone else give us some solidity at left back.

 

The current Bun reporting this morning that Pulis is about to bid £13m for Gibbs.

 

This post sounds suspiciously like it might be relevant to the future of Gibbs to me. If so, kindly post it on the correct thread which obviously isn't the one entitled KIERAN GIBBS.

Why would WBA offer 13m when we 've reportedly agreed 5m

 

If the offers being reported are genuine and we do get him for £5 million it must be down to the player.

Gibbs is in a strong position and may have said that he wants to stay in the London area and will sit out his contract rather than move elsewhere.

Pure speculation but I'm sure Arsenal would just take the higher amount if it were their call.

I'm told Kieran Gibbs' medical is scheduled for this afternoon. West Brom had a higher bid rejected but Gibbs does not want to relocate and therefore prefers a move to Watford.

 

Also for those interested, SkyBet have removed the Kieran Gibbs market from their transfer section as it is considered to be a done deal.

By "I'm told..." you mean you've read it on Twitter, right? Think I'll take that with a hefty pinch of salt after you said the deal would be done over three weeks ago.

A. Why would give them a knockdown price? Sure, we could sell to them exclusively - wouldn’t that be enough without reducing the price too?

B. You say this like Arsenal and the player have no say in this if true. They can accept and reject whatever they want.

 

I'd be fuming if we sold Okaka to West Brom, especially after watching Gray against Brighton.

 

After Saturday it is clear we need another left back. Which puts Gibbs in a strong position. If this falls through I am sure we have a back up plan or we better have a back up plan. Arsenal mates tell me he is a decent player who after the debacle at Anfield wonder he like a few others arent in the team. I still think a cheeky bid for Chambers wouldnt be that bad. He did very well at Boro last year.
