Get a defensive Italian/German in. We have pleanty of pace need a player with a more defensive mind set+ Ash Young as well Covers everything. If it's wages then I'm proud we have said no. Gibbs been messing around for far to long. Smacks of a greedy agent to me.

 

Bit more detail...Sky Sources: Watford pull out of deal to sign Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal after failing to agree personal terms.

Personal view is that he would have been good if we could get him for £5m - £8m and sensible wages. Unless WBA are standing by or some other side, can’t see Arsenal being too happy with him.

Gibbs should’ve switched on the TV and seen the example of Chalobah being interviewed from St. George’s Park - realise it’s not just about money but playing football AND enjoying it. Do that and you’ll get rewarded...

That said, after Silva’ very public comments about the LB position, I cannot see Gino pulling out of this deal without a solution in mind to appease him.

And if we are going to stretch our wage budget for a player and make them one of the highest paid players, I’d rather it be someone who is deserving of the wage with real quality. Gibbs isn’t that.

His mentality is a joke for a player in his prime finally being offered regular first team football. I would have liked him here but if that's his priorities and attitude we're genuinely better off with someone else

I'm sure the sort of dastardly agreement I've suggested would never work and the last thing anyone needs at Watford FC is another little investigation for underhand dealings.

 

Spot on. English players are overvalued and overpaid. We have more than enough english players now. England are a terrible football side, the last thing we want to be doing is filling our teams with players from that country. It makes no sense at all.

Surely the pozzos have contacts in italy for some decent defenders. They've gone from one extreme to the other with english players. It's absurd.

 

I'm gutted about this as I thought he'd be a great buy. However, if he is demanding silly wages then I don't think we should cave in due to

a) it does say much about his motivation for playing
b) I think it may be poor for squad moral, just a hunch but no evidence
c) I suspect there will be a plan B

 

The solution is simple. Udinese want Okaka. He goes back to Italy and we get Samir in exchange, who we can play at left CB (Britos) or LB (Holebas). Has the pace to suit Silva and is Brazilian. Little money if any changes hands. Everybody happy.
