A valid point. We seem to have an abundance of tricksy players who, whilst looking exciting at times, deliver **** all offensively and do nothing to assist defensively other than leave an already weak backline hopelessly exposed.

This squad has lacked guts for a few seasons and it is catching up with us now.

Same squad more or less but our good start last season--first 6 games-13 points had i think the same team. Deeney &Gray upfront, Janmatt, Holebas. Kabs and Cathcart with Doucs, Peraya, Capoue and Hughes in the middle-this time we are changing every game but only Troy was unavailable today.

I get that the defence is coming in for a lot of justifiable criticism but the shooting seems so much worse-we have had 30 shots on target-the 10th highest and have 4 goals so far -last season 152 shots on target resulted in 52 goals-the 12 highest shots on target and we finished 11th

Without yellow tinted specs on, he was poor. In his defence rarely did we pass forward and even try to get him involved. He tracked back on a few occasions which was good to see however gave away some needless free kicks. I know some Neanderthals one of which was at the game. They laughed at his price tag and reckon we’ve bought a dud. He’s a prospect let’s hope it starts to happen for him and the team fast.

Should a £30m+ signing be a ‘prospect’ or ‘actually good enough to do the business now’?

Depends. If they're signed by Manchester City can probably wait a couple of seasons to see them really perform. If they're at Watford, they need to be grabbing games by the scruff of the neck from the moment they first step on the pitch.

Today we lost. We needed to avoid defeat and that is relegation for us.
QSF, Gino,Duxbury, the players and most fans know it.
We are awful and may go down with the least amount of points and most goals conceded.
This was on the cards for the past two seasons. We hung on for grim death to our Premier league status, yet failed to invest or even understand why we were such a poor side.
We have massive debts and relegation could cause long term damage to the club.
Gino touting for money in the the City? I think so.
    Goodbye PL and MOTD.

I was one of the poor s*ds at Molineux today. We largely got the lineup we wanted but for well over an hour there wasn’t the slightest suggestion that Watford might score a goal. There was absolutely nothing to cheer as a fan.
There’s no point in blaming individuals because this was a collective failure of attitude. The passing was poor and little effort was put in to disrupt a mediocre Wolves side who won with ease. We had 61% possession, mostly consisting of passing the ball around slowly in our own half before playing a 50/50 forward pass. The only players who put in some real effort were the subs: the inconsistent Pereyra and the sub-standard Gray, but well done to them for trying when it was already too late.
This was a worse result than losing 8-0 to City, purely because of the opposition. It wasn’t as difficult a fixture as some said; it was winnable, but you would never have thought so watching the performance of our players.
Watford have a last chance to get the season going next week against a promoted team and potential relegation rival. They must attack with purpose and speed - this is where their assets lie - and crucially score the first goal. They must play like they MEAN it.

Although I think this season we’re now more likely to go down than stay up, this bit simply isn’t true. There hasn’t been a single day in the last 4 season where we’ve ‘hung on’ to our PL status, let alone to grim death. Nor have we been a poor side. I know it’s an inconvenient truth to the pessimists but we’ve comfortably survived every previous season without a week in the relegation zone. There have been plenty of PL clubs who have been in a death spiral for several years before eventually seeing their turd flushed - Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle all in recent seasons. If we go down this season it’ll be a much more sudden shift.

I think I saw a slightly different game on here than most.

I thought we were unlucky. Their first was a very well worked training ground routine. Their second was a ridiculous own goal. It was a 1-1 game and the stats show that.

I wouldn’t say the players don’t care. If you look at the body language after the second goal, the side look gutted. They simply have no confidence, and conceding in such a way after dominating the previous period of the match completely took the wind out of their sails.

The key problems that we do need to overcome.

1- confidence. It’s a cliche, but we need a scrappy win from anywhere

2- goals. Where is the next goal going to come from? GD is our best threat, but he doesn’t do enough of the hard work

3- Quique. He’s never been good enough. He relied on having the most in form striker in the league to bail out his poor defensive-attacking balance. When Ighalo lost form, we fell apart in both attack and defence. I’d rather we had gone back to Walt if we had to revisit the past (which we didn’t)

4- squad balance. We have no good defenders, no good strikers and about 7 good CMs. We need to sacrifice some flair to keep a solid shape and try to stop the goals flooding in.

5- leadership. The only leader I see on the pitch is Cleverley. We need more players to step up ASAP.

I know statically you can make a case for what you’re saying, but this season has been a long time coming.

We’ve always started every season with an abundance of confidence, which has given us a perfect platform, but as the season unfolds we always falter, lose confidence and go in horrendous relegation like runs of form. Every season has been like this.

What is the real Watford? I believe we’re not as good as we think we are, and when we were getting good results it was because a majority of players were playing at an optimum level. This level can only be maintained for a while before inevitably players revert back to their natural abilities. It’s a bit like a side raising themselves for a big cup tie. They can do it, but once the bread and butter fixture comes along they cannot be motivated enough.

Without the great start, Watford are sunk. Does anyone feel we have a side capable of fighting their way out of this? Not a chance.

It think it’s inevitable the unthinkable will happen now. I cannot think of any logical reason for it not to, apart from wishful thinking and blind hope based on nothing.

Well last season was our best of of the lot !

    Up until April time ..

Not that it excuses this season so far .

We seem to lack the ability to close players down and are caught ball watching.

That is down to the midfield which then exposes the weak back line .

Attack looks good on paper but we try too many tricks and not enough end product.

A club of our stature you’d expect it now. But with today’s market is 30/40m that much and other clubs have wasted a lot more on similar deals. He’s entitled to a bad day but also not much he could of done today as we very rarely pushed forward

The old ' Wolves Fan in Peace' thing - I'll give you my thoughts of today.

We both needed that win badly, and it could so easily have gone either way.

Yes you need to avoid getting into a real rut, but you easily have the quality to sort things out. Its just that worry about confidence.
But for me the difference between last and this season (based on yesterday only admittedly) was that Doucoure was a pale shadow of the player last season, hardly noticed him whereas when the Hornets look good he is often the driving force. I'm not blaming him, just an observation as an opposition fan.

I noticed on the Wolves Molineux Mix verdict thread a few misinformed Wolves fans said you are nailed on for relegation, well a few others if you read through correct them. Absolute rubbish, but then again you know what some of our fans are like. You will NOT get sucked into a relegation fight. I watched you v Arsenal too, that was superb.

Playing Wolves is difficult, we defended so deeply for long spells, and yes we defended very well, limiting you to so few chances was defensively superb. Its not pretty to watch, feeling like the away team to home. Our midfield sit so deep, in effect conceding midfield. As an away fan, you are not going to come away thinking "wow Wolves were good". I love what Nuno has brought to Wolves, but its hard to watch week in week out. If we could get a more dynamic midfield I think we would be a lot better.

Anyway, we just got the key breaks yesterday, & Ben Foster ensured the atmosphere didn't die altogether. In my view, you just need that first win, and when you play at home the energy and pace seems supreme with a whipped-up crowd too. I really enjoy as a neutral, watching you play at times. So keep the faith, things will turn.

We haven't kept a clean sheet for over 6 months, and our new manager bounce has seen us concede 12 goals in 3 games.

We are defeated in attitude before we even turn up to the match, the team on the pitch is resigned to losing before kick off and nobody seems to be able to change it.

Yes, our team of fancy ****ers are wonderful, world beaters when things go their way and momentum is behind them, like against arsenal. But unfortunately for the 90% of football matches which are tightly contested they **** their pants and hide.

This from a wolves fan...can’t argue really.

Professional did what we needed to do.

    As for Watford :-

    Foster - parents weren’t married

Gerard D :- Poor mans Ozil, lacks heart and passion.

Sarr :- They’ve wasted £40m on this donkey (should have spent £10m a piece on 4 needed defenders).

Doucoure :- What’s happened to him, they have sucked the quality out of him.

Away Fans :- Worst we’ve had down here in 3 seasons?

I agree, it is all about our character now. We have the ability for sure, but our confidence is just shot and our players have stopped battling for some reason, and it may be that we have to get a change of luck before we get our first win.

Someone said yesterday that when Crystal Palace had a slump a few years ago, the players said that it was their fans that helped them overcome it with great support until results turned around. Well that isn't going to happen at Watford, as large sections of the fans have effectively already given up with 31 games to go, so the club have to do something behind the scenes and get to work on the players somehow.

Well there is little doubt that CP fans give their team more match day vocal support. There has been a valiant effort at times from the 1881, but if we are honest, our fans (particularly at home) are very not the most supportive vocally, unless things are going well.

And, in light of one of GD's posts, that seem to be 99% sarcasm these days (and, it really is the lowest form of wit), I am not blaming the fans, I am just saying that it is the players that need to get themselves out the situation they put themselves in, as they won't get much help from the fans.

Yesterday, I was watching the Shoutbox, without taking any part whatsoever, and many of your posts mentioned me, for heavens sake! Then I notice you on the politics section, rarely ever contribution to the discussions, unless it is to have another go personally at me along with your leftie mates! And I think probably that every one of your posts are pure sarcasm!
You are definitely obsessed GD. Calm down a bit, it is getting a little bit creepy.

I think you are suffering from the recent past when I was particularly critical of Deeney's weight and his attitude, and you fought tooth and nail to defend him. Then you were made to look a bit stupid when Deeney himself admitted that his weight had got out of hand, and that his attitude had been all wrong:D.

    Get over it, GD.
