I enjoyed today's clickbaiting by those consummate profressionals over at WD Sport. They tweet that there's news about Victor Valdes and then in the link, say that we aren't interested. 'Wages' was mentioned. So they make up a rumour in a tweet and dismiss that rumour in the link. Great stuff.
They also revealed how they had a chance to speak exclusively to Layun after the Chelsea vs Porto game. What did they ask him about? How he was enjoying his time at Porto? What did he think of Watford's start to the season? If he wanted to stay at Porto? Wrong. They asked him about Rene Gilmartin.
Please don't do '5 Things we learned'...irritates the sh!t out of me when the tabloids do it and seems to be an increasing trend.
I write the odd thing for the WO and had this opportunity yesterday evening, when one of my usually simple, uncontroversial 'Fan's View' articles generated some quite strong opprobrium. I think it's better for the writer to leave it though. For one, you risk actually responding to trolls, and then there's always the possibility that the person commenting is just not interested in dialogue and would much rather just fly off the handle. It's an interesting idea nevertheless. But the full-time WO writers simply don't have the time to respond to comments regardless of whether they want to or not. I imagine if there's something severely misunderstood then something would be amended and people would be made aware of that though.
Yeah that was one of mine. Incredible, right? Completely misunderstood what I was getting at, and even if I was saying what I think he thinks I'm saying, what an insanely over the top response.
That said, most newspaper comment areas are just infested with people who think that just because they can comment, they should comment. And don't appear to apply any kind of thought or filter because they're anonymous.
I thought it was a good opinion piece, I remember on here people slating Iggy at the beginning of his tenure...however he was challenging Vydra for a starting spot (Deeney was never going to lose his place unless injured or suspended). I agree with your frustration, however for some reason it's staying with me as there seem to be more examples of it this season.
I think that NoParasan is of the opinion that if you weren't physically there then you have no right to comment or criticise. Truth is, watching it on a live feed means you can actually see the runs and the spaces available.
But... I was there. I even mentioned it in the article! Plus I was saying I was frustrated with his performance, but realised that the only reason I was is because he's raised the bar so high for himself. He's a fantastic player, and we expect a lot more from him than I'd ever have expected given how he started his time at WFC. The 'spoilt brat' thing was a way of saying that I felt sort of wrong being frustrated at his performance given that he'd just won us a(nother) game. It all hit me at the final whistle - like, how can I have been anything but happy a few minutes ago? We're 7th! We're doing really well! Etc etc.
My mistake. If you saw the post of mine above that's since been deleted, it's gone because I didn't read the article properly and wrongly stated that the quotes weren't attributed. They have mentioned Soccer AM in their article about Troy Deeney and the helipad. We all make mistakes. It would be ridiculous to think otherwise.
Well at least he had the decency to delete this nonsense... http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...-nod-over-holebas-for-chelsea-v-watford-clash
TBF, Anya would have dealt well with the "fleet-footed runner William." Although, he seemed pretty non-existent today.
WDSport are really starting to get on my nerves now - the quality of writing is just appalling. Look at their Holebas article. http://www.wdsport.co.uk/2015/12/jose-holebas-it-was-really-hard-to-come-back/ "It would be fair to say there are not many queuing up to be Holebas’ roommate, that’s if the hotel is to his liking' What kind of thing is that to say? Nobody has said the guy is difficult to work with or that he is a diva? "We should be used to the head coach making big calls by now but this one caught virtually everyone by surprise." No it didn't. It was between him or Anya. It's just a **** site that's really annoying me now, a negative, unprofessional, poorly run website. Needs to go soon.
Whilst I agree with you, WDSport is usually hotter off the press and they seem to (still undecided on whether they actually are or not) be closer to the club than the Wobby is.
Their Twitter posts and articles have become increasingly 'I told you so'. However, the coverage of pre-season was fantastic, they're always ITK regarding the matchday squad and they have a decent record on transfer news, they were spot on with Iturbe. I don't like the way they write some articles as well as other things about them but then I've chosen to read their articles and go on their site. If you hate the website then why go on it?
Reality TV shows really annoy me. However, lots of other people like them. God knows why, but they do. The shows don't "Need to go soon" just because I personally don't like them. I just watch something else instead.
The WO is not a Watford FC newspaper so therefore their resources are not all towards reporting on the club. WD Sport says its a Hertfordshire sport publication but with the first non-Watford FC story being on page 6 and from December 11th, it appears that any non-Watford FC reporting is at a minimum. Indeed, there's an Anthony Joshua story on the same page but only because Troy Deeney was going to his last fight. Based on that and the majority of their resources being Watford FC related, it is no surprise if they are 'closer to the club'.
I've stopped reading since the percentage of articles about Emmanuel Adebayor has dropped below 90%. I'm sure this will be rectified, at which point I will return.
Oh yeah that's all true. I suppose I've just associated it with the club because it's been the main source of news on the club for the general public for a long time and it's only recently that it's changed.
I read this last night and I agree - Affleck really does appear to have a personal vendetta against Holebas and it's really rather annoying to read. He was very quick to clear Dyer's name despite him showing very explicit signs of discontent, but he continues with this arsey tone towards Holebas after he put in a very good display yesterday. It's annoying because they clearly do have good access. I liked WD Sport's coverage over the summer but Affleck's style of writing and "I told you so" attitude is really grating on me. Also, he wasn't right about Iturbe, despite his gloating on Twitter. What he said in the original article was that they cannot officially open talks with him until the January transfer window opens. Well I think it's pretty clear that they did.
Well they were the first ones to break the news that the Iturbe deal was off so they clearly have some decent contacts.
yep, he mentioned his surly tone, hardly necessary I think Holebas has something to offer particularly going forward and hope he stays at least until the end of the season
The WO had already put an article out that the deal was off, WD when asked on twitter by william Worth and Watford talk ( i think ) said that they had very reliable sources and were usually right, but what have they actually been right about ?, none as a 1st and exclusive that i have seen. They managed to get a Dyer interview which they put out but other wise no one from the club has their name against anything, its all a club source, we understand etc etc etc. I have a feeling that until they change the "told you so attitude" they won't get too much change out of the club.
No I'm pretty sure the Wobby were after WD Sport on the Iturbe thing. I'm not sticking up for them but I do think they seem to be a bit more ITK than the Wobby so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on their site during the next month.
