This is what irks me about WDSport, they just rehash old news most of the time. Fair enough they are a non profit site and need the revenue but it just seems to in your face about it.

Their constant following/unfollowing of me on Twitter, until I followed them or blocked them about 3 times a day over the summer says a lot about them. I assume it wasn't just myself who had this.

  7. WD have upped the game and the Watford Observer are starting to respond. In that respect it is excellent that we have two sources of news competing with each other for clicks.

Before WD we only the Wobby with that absolutely dire master click baiter Frank Smith for stories with no sources that miscontrued one thing for another and set the fans against players managers and the club without proper corroboration.

We are in a far better state now, with the Wobby finally upping its game and taking sports reporting more seriously, and it is because they have serious opposition.

    Forza WD! Forza Wobby!

But please, can both sides do something about the dreadful English and grammar. Are there no subs these days?

In short, no. And like almost everything these days it's a cost thing.

Though it's not limited to just WD or WO. The standard that passes for journalism these days is frankly terrible. Typos in headlines are my particular pet hate...for instance, I saw one the other day that spoke of January being a 'quite' time of year. Words fail.

I'm all for graduates being given chances in the modern world, but ever since news became all about social media & online articles it seems most outlets will hire practically anyone keen to do the job, irrespective of their experience of grasp of the English language.

I'd have to say the WD Sport has the better content and uses social media very well, but the problem is Kevin Affleck. He's a monumental *******.

The fact he only started covering the club again when we got promoted to the Premier League says everything about him. He isn't Watford, a local journalist has to be.

  22. Kevin Affleck, who went to school in Garston "isn't Watford"? What?

I'm no fan of his, but he's as local as they come. He went to school with Robbo at St Micks, ffs

WDSport have excelled themselves with their story on Doucoure this morning. They've clearly just chucked an interview with a French website into Google Translate and pasted it onto their website with no attempt to tidy it up or make it more understandable.

    http://www.wdsport.co.uk/2016/01/abdoulaye-doucoure-was-offered-handsome-sum-to-join-watford/

    Here's some of the highlights:

“For me it was a strategic choice to stay in Rennes. I thought progress more staying one more year here. At 23, the financial is really not my priority. Amounts Watford were nice, but I prefer to focus my career in sports.”

"The more difficult when you move a lot, is to get out of a game which feels good and end up the game according to a new position. That’s the hardest to manage, but at the same time, I stayed in midfield, although sometimes I played number 10. The most frustrating, this is to feel limited because it is not preferred position."

Yes, Doucoure's tactical insights are a bit difficult to follow, but it's clear that he's taking a strategic view of his career rather than just following the money. Sensible guy.

Judging by that interview Doucoure clearly isn't the sharpest tool in the box - most of what he says doesn't make any sense and he clearly doesn't even talk in normal speech patterns. Him turning us down might be a blessing in disguise.

WD Sport is starting to become a bit painful to read. They had some good pre-season coverage but I don't think they are as close to the club as they were in the summer.

On tactics they seem to go with popular opinion and then re-tweet anyone who backs up their view, and on transfers they are about as ITK as the Observer.

Has anyone had any technical problems accessing the Observer? May be just my creaky nearly five-year-old laptop, but several times it shut down without warning when I was trying to read the comments to the article on Flores' apology to fans.

The WO seems to have more ads now than I remember from previous visits making pages very slow to open, but I didn't have any other programmes running and I was using IE11 which may not be as stable as the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome (but I prefer on an aesthetic basis), but it still should be a good deal better than previous IE editions (not saying much I know).

Install an ad blocker. It makes reading their website much easier to get on with.

Thanks it worked, don't why I didn't think of that earlier! Maybe I did but thought something completely free with unlimited use that could block all annoying ads and was a doddle to install (not reboot required) was too good to be true.

Though it does ask the question - if it's so easy to set up how are the advertisers getting all their money back (and more)? Presumably most people would far rather not have any ads at all than even one, even if not all of them are useless and/or a scam.

Is it me or is the writing on WD Sport becoming more juvenile by the day.

I understand it's difficult having to create as much news as possible because the site runs on advertising , and I don't really care about the grammar and spelling errors, but some of the journalism is cringeworthy. The style reminds me of Viz when it used to send up the writing of Sunday Mail.
