Or we don't have any money for transfers and are using him to raise capital....

This is the thing, Gino is getting all the blame but we'd only be entertaining offers with 3 days left of the window if the player wants out.

How has this happened it was all so rosy just a few months ago. I had dreams of Europe then. Now it's nightmares about Ipswich away

As somebody said on here though, you don't turn down a near world record fee for a coach if you're skint.

I just find the timing very peculiar. Why would our captain decide to bail at this point? Whatever issues he had with Silva's selection surely must have changed now Javi's in charge.

All a bit depressing really, despite being well off form, selling your captain sends a negative message to a squad low on confidence

That thought had crossed my mind also, but I've been doing some rough calculations and we have a trading deficit of around £23m for this season's transfers. That doesn't sound excessive to me. As I say it's a rough figure but I don't believe it could be that wildly out.

We've not done any stadium improvements this season either. I'm sure we have enough for more transfers without being a cause for concern.

I voted Yes to him going and despite our current troubles, I stick with that.

It seems to me that a part of our problems is 'player power' and them deciding who they like, who they don't like, who they're going to play for and who they're not going to play for. I suspect that a major force in this player power, which to a greater or lesser extent played a part in the downfall of QSF, Wally and Silva is 'Mr Watford' Deeney.

The manager/head coach needs to be in charge. Without Deeney imposing his dubious influence and character on matters, I think he'll have more of a chance of doing that.

I do think he still has plenty to contribute at a Premier league level and I do think he'll score goals for whoever he goes to, but when those 5 or 6 or 7 goals a season are balanced off against the poor influence of over-familiarity with this club, some injudicious and frankly embarrassing "considerably harder than yo-o-w" statements to the press and poor discipline in recent times, I think the best thing we can do is sell and take the money.

Apart from possibly penalty taking, I believe we already have a more than adequate, possibly more skilful, like-for-like replacement for Deeney anyway in Stefan Okaka.

Finally, others have pointed out the apparent lack of commitment to the cause of the likes of Carrillo, Capoue and Holebas, but I do think our club captain might have made the effort to hop into the Lambourghini supercar the club bought him and nip along and see the first team's efforts on a Saturday afternoon. Only a couple of hours out of his day...

Based on the first half of the season we'd be losing out on a good hour of effectiveness from our top earner and captain, spread over the remaining games,

He's done sod all for 90% of the past year, so I think it's time he left and we can cherish the memories from the previous seasons. It won't be difficult to replace him as he's virtually useless at present

I think his heart hasn't really been in it for some time. I'd imagine he'd have angled for a move in the summer had Silva not come in, and the way he's played this season gives me the impression of somebody who has totally lost focus.

West Brom will probably get a decent player though, and that's the annoying part of it. A fresh start will probably allow him to find some form again, and if he does (big if), then every point he helps them gain is going to be hugely detrimental to us.

    Forget the price;
If we get a better player in, it's a good deal.
    If we don't, it's a bad deal.
    Simple as that.
Currently the only goalscorer we are linked with is Afoebe. Does that sound like a good swap ?

In todays market 16m is too cheap, under the circumstances I wouldn't sell for a penny less than 20

Ridiculous to sell Deeney for £16mil, worth way more in today’s market. Championship strikers like Chris Wood are commanding £15mil fees. We shouldn’t accept anything less than £22/23mil, especially with Walsall getting a massive cut.

We are in a relegation scrap, this is when we need leaders and we can’t afford to sell our captain.

Couldn’t agree more. This is terribly timed and another distraction we could all do without. If worst comes to worst and we get relegated, a player with championship experience of scoring 20+ goals in consecutive seasons is imperative.

Selling Deeney now is totally foolish.

Fact is Deeney doesn't have time on his side. He's 29 and plays a physical game; that's about the age where the physical side of strikers heads into decline. Based on what we've seen over multiple seasons I think it's fair to say Deeney struggles with his conditioning perhaps a bit more than the average player. Age catches up with everyone eventually, unfortunately for us all.

If the Pozzos think it's the right time then I trust them. They are far better at being football people than anyone on this forum. Deeney has been a great player for this club overall and if he does leave, it'll be with my best wishes for the future. I'd always offer buy him a pint if I happened to run into him in a bar (after I picked myself up off the floor from bouncing off him).

I'd wouldn't mind so much but considering he still lives in the Midlands, WBA is hardly uprooting his family.

I don't think we'll sell at £16m but it sounds like Deeney wants the move so if West Brom shift Evans then it could happen. I'd tell them to stump up before the end of today or piss off because then we'll have no time to get a replacement. Deeney will have to do his job for the rest of the season without sulking which I'm not sure he's capable of doing.

Well West Brom, if a Deeney is out of your budget and you’re in the market for a new striker, maybe we could interest you in some of our other models instead.

For £16m we could offer you an Andre Gray or if that is still a tad rich for you we have a hardly used Okaka. Over here we have a cut price Sinclair. Brought for just £4m as a promising youngster for Liverpool, not as useful as his electric vehicle namesake but is much quicker, unfortunately he never really starts.

Here we have a real Success, not really sure where he plays but is cheap to run, requiring only cream liquor.

This could be another John Barnes transfer for us, been here years, made his name but is forever remember by the media as being a Brom great as we slip out of the Premierthingy

£16m it’s technically too low, but his value is only going one way. I personally can’t beleive any PL club are at all interested in buying him and the fact they are is more based on what he’s did a few seasons ago rather the right now. If £16m is all a club are willing to offer now then I’d say that is the maximum price we are ever going to get for him.

When he came on against Southampton at The Vic, he looked as fit as he ever was and up for the challenge, start him with Gray, play 2 up top and keep him until Summer then if he still wants to leave he goes with our blessing.
Let him go now and we are in the poop.
