I think this would be good for us but also good for Deeney. A new challenge with a great club could get him back to his best. Potential win win.

His work here is done. If he stays I'd put money on him serving another suspension between now and May. He cuts a frustrated figure in his peripheral role and I don't see him ever hitting the heights of the first few months under Quique again. I'd even let Newcastle have him for a cut price.

When a similar question was asked before last season with Leicester sniffing around I voted no. Since then as he's focused on bulking out the other parts of his game have deteriorated to the point we seem to be left with what appears to be a highly frustrated yet fairly immobile lump who never looks like scoring unless its from the penalty spot. Even talk of his importance off the field has died out and this is a team that looks like its sorely in need of some proper leaders. Instead we've had fall outs with the manager, insulting other teams on air and suspensions for picking fights with the shortest guy on the pitch.

Its a shame really but I dont know what he brings to the team anymore. Okakka is stronger & does a far better job of holding the ball up and bringing others into play, Gray is faster and seems to fit the system better, Success has more potential and is more versatile and all carry a greater goal threat.

A move might be best for all parties

Think it would be good for him and Newcastle but I'd only do it if we win the next 2 premier league games.

    Right now I'd say No.

He’s always been very complimentary of Newcastle and St James’. Also Newcastle’s strikers are ***** so he’ll get plenty of game time. Sad it’s looking like ending this way.

This came up before as Newcastle were sniffing around Troy a couple of years ago. I said then he should go there (rather than EFC or LCFC) as its a huge club that love old fashioned number 9s, as he likes to think of himself. Do well on Tyneside and your assured of legend status and unlimited corporate and media work for life. Hardly likely with us...

Depends on who the replacement is.
He doesn't fit MS style of play but 2 games from now MS may have gone.
Will he score the goals that keep them up and send us down ?

It doesn't matter who the coach is anymore. This window or the summer window is our last chance to get a bit of cash for him and have him leave on relatively good terms. At least this month we can squeeze a few more million out of teams. He's taking up a place in the squad without contributing anything worthwhile to the team, that's not how he should be remembered here.

I would feel better about this if we weren’t developing such convincing relegation form. Do we really want to scrap it out against a rejuvenated Deen on May 5th with a place in the Prem at stake?

Does crack me up when people want loyalty from Silva or hold onto grudges, Brendan Rodgers, Mike Williamson etc.

Yet within 40 games, people are giving up on Deeney. I'm not saying he'll come good, I think he's regressing but some of the comments on here are crazy considering what he's done for the club. No wonder there's no loyalty in football anymore, you're only adored when you're on top of your game.

Might be something to do with the way the question is phrased. It only asks if people would "consider a bid" rather than sell him. I'd "consider" one but would only sell him if a replacement was arranged in advance and they were one of our top choices.

Short memories on here. Pretty sad.

Yes, his form has been erratic this season & there have been a few incidents which he will have learned from, but I can assure you you will wish you had a player like him in a relegation scrap.

If player & club decides he should go, it should be in the summer.

    Voted no.

He may be a useless fat trough of monkey spunk, but he's our useless fat trough of monkey spunk.

The thought of the neanderthal Geordie hordes booing him when they realise they've signed a player less mobile than a tree stump is unbearable.

It was erratic last season as well. Actually, erratic implies that he has had some good form at times which isn't the case. He's been woeful outside of the box and non-existent inside the box for over a season now. Unless you count the penalties (which unbelievably are the only shots he has on goal). Even Gray gets shots off on goal, even if they don't always go in.

    Agree with this.

Also seems odd to help out a team below us when we ourselves are struggling for form.

He also deserves a decent send off for all he's done on the pitch over the years.

    I voted yes.
I believe he is tarnishing his reputation at present. He has lost his desire and is unlikely to recapture his form of the first half season in the PL.
However I too would be wary of selling until a replacement is here but I'm sure the hierarchy will have it all in hand.

He's 29 and our Captain, sorry but those lessons should of been learnt way back. I doubt anyone has forgotten what he's done for Watford and vice versa. But the statistics don't lie. He is a shadow of his former self and deserves a new challenge. Okaka brings more to the team than Deeney. He is the one we should be worried about leaving. But and I mean but, if there isn't a replacement coming in Deeney has to stay.

  32. Put him in the right situation and you'll see the same old Deeney, IMHO.

He's not changed, but our team has and, like Gray, it doesn't suit him.

A move would be good for him, because he isn't going to shine under Silva.

I'm ready for Troy to go, very sad to see his decline but he's more liability than use now. Barely even consider him as a leader figure anymore sadly.

    Agreed in all respects.

He played a big role as we entered the brave new world of the Prem.

On the pitch, he bullied unwary Prem central defenders & his partnership with Ighalo for that half season was sublime.

Off the pitch, he was the face of the team. Not an especially pretty one but exuding confidence.

The pens kept his goal tally just about respectable & Iggy made Troy's lack of mobility a little less of an issue.

I feel like the guy's died.

    Enough.

I voted 'no', though more out of loyalty/sentiment than effectiveness.

It's very sad to see how much of a liability he is for us now; it's currently counterproductive to put him on the pitch. We need multiple better strikers, and in terms of Troy, his ineffectiveness affects the whole team. I would also agree that he seems to have lost that leadership role, which is in part a good thing, in the sense of it not being needed quite so much, but also bad, in that he has in turn become quite a negative presence, making us look poor to onlookers and failing to cover himself in glory either. Must give him some credit, however, for just how badly he continues to trigger po' lil' Gooners who just cannot get over their loss to us.

All that being said, he's been here for 7 years, he's the only pre-Pozzo player (continuously), he is a large part of the reason why we are where we are now. I don't want to see him slink out the door during a January window, and it's even weirder if he does it to another Prem team, really. I'd also be shocked if he went to one and suddenly became effective, given how much his entire all-round play has dissolved into the shadows. I'd like to see Troy leave at the end of a season, having been given the chance to go out publicly, recognised at the Vic for the role he has played over the years.

I don't think we'll come near selling him anyway, as Okaka looks nailed on to leave, and we don't have enough strikers when that happens, let alone if Troy went too. We don't really have enough strikers as it stands with all 3 of them .
