It just depends who comes in. A couple of surprise quality additions and we will quickly agree it was the right time to let him go. No additions or a couple of bargain basement signings and we will live to rue this. I get the feeling this is a goer but we are waiting to see who is left standing without a chair when the music stops on the 31st

It was probably better than him saying they were deficient. But only in this small fevered universe does anyone care.

The fact is you know the truth, the Pozzos love acquiring players and are set up to do so on an almost constant basis. They will never get to the point where they think our squad is 'good enough'. The lack of action is about the market and our position in it.

Hi Troy. Thanks for creating a profile just to give us this insight.

All the signs point to it being true that he’s leaving. The “illness”, watching another team instead of Watford, the rumoured discontent (coming off the back of finding himself out if the team).

I agree that he is one of very few players in our squad that has the fighting mentality we need in a relegation fight, but as has been said many times about Silva for the last few months (and Holebas from some quarters): if he doesn’t want to be here, we may be better served to let him leave.

It wasn’t long ago many on here were happy for him to be sold. His performances declined as his physique grew, he showed a lack of professionalism being sent off twice (both in games we were losing and in need of leadership) and despite his supposed role in bringing the squad together there seems to be a more fractured dressing room than ever before.

Deeney has been an incredibly important player for us in recent years and I think will quite rightly go down as a club legend, but he and the club have grown apart. This is not the sentimental course of action, but it seems to be a sensible one provided, of course, we bring in a suitable replacement before the deadline.

He has a "fighting mentality" alright, unfortunately it appears to be the kind which is more likely to lead to disciplinary action than a goal...

The last sentence is the key. Would you be happy for him to go if the replacement is Afobe?

I'm happy for Deeney to go and this despite the fact that I put £50 on him to stay this window. However, I'd feel a lot happier about it if we were linked to better replacements than Remy or Afobe. If we got someone in like Luan or Gabbiadini or even some young hotshot I'd never heard of I'd be a lot more happy.

    This.

I have no real problem with him leaving, but being so frequently linked to absolute dross like Afobe as his replacement is deeply worrying.

I wouldn't be particularly confident in Afobe being the man to keep us up, no. But I won't write him off before he's played if we do buy him.

What if its not down to Gino
Maybe Troy is pushing the move
Yes Gino could block it but can he afford another version of sulking Silva
Maybe troy seen a chance to bail and took it

Maybe he'll go and it turns out he's the reason we implode mid-season and behind dressing room unrest...

I am struggling to type with all the straws I've got tightly gripped in my hands.

Not overly worried about him leaving. He has added very little to us this season due to injuries, suspensions and poor form.

Hopefully we get a better replacement than someone like Afobe but there seems to be widespread panic among Watford fans over this transfer saga yet most of us have been disappointed with his contribution this season.

Great servant for the club since he joined, but simply not performing this season.

Will be sad to see him go but I think his best days are behind him. Thanks for the memories Troy and all the best wherever you end up. Will fall into the category of watford legends for me alongside; Smith, Doyley, Helguson, Mooney and Palmer.

I've not said much on this, however if he said 'after all I've done for this club'...well Troy, the thing is when you weren't pulling up any trees prior to 2012, you had a little stint at Her Majesty's leisure and the club stood by you. Maintained your contract and gave you the chance to redeem yourself.

Many fans, myself included, wanted your contract terminated, yet the club stood by you and you subsequently got your head down and the club rewarded you by making you financially set for life.

What would have happened to you had the club terminated your contract?

We'll never know, but the club has done plenty for you.

Part of the problem though is that Deeney must be replaced by a homegrown player. Not really a lot of options out there

Ings is a decent shout, but is his fitness guaranteed? Seems like he's been injured for ages.

In an ideal world we find an actual decent homegrown player to take Troy's place, doesn't have to be a striker. Though the club might see Afobe as an easy solution

West Brom have made a bid of around £16m for Watford striker Troy Deeney. Understand the offer has not been accepted yet and Watford may want more. Interesting few days ahead

When you think of the percentage going to Walsall as well....madness. I really hope this is part of some bigger plan that doesn't include Afobe.

Perhaps they're lowballing us because they know Deeney wants out?

It's become fairly apparent now that may well be the case. There's no way we'd consider selling him unless Troy's asked for a transfer

Well if he does join them put good money on Troy scoring at the Vic on March 3rd.
