[NOT HAPPENING] Troy Deeney

Remy is miles ahead of Deeney and Afobe could be a more mobile target man.

Interesting to see who Gracia starts upfront today & in what formation.

 

I have no real problem with him leaving at this point, but Remy or Afobe would be absolutely awful replacements, especially Afobe.

The only circumstances I’d want Remy is if he was coming in to play wide, not as a striker. I wouldn’t replace Deeney with him, no chance. With his injury and attitude issues, we cannot pin our hopes on him. Reeks of us not being able to get someone else...

Afobe is a similar type of striker to what we have - just not as good. We need a different profile who is also an upgrade. Plus I’d say that if we replace Deeney with Afobe, that is the confirmation I need that we are indeed planning to be in the Championship next year.

 

How does Deeney being ill all week tally with the supposed quote about Gracia having completely ignored him in training? Surely if he was ill and can't play then he wouldn't have been training?

 

He's watching his old non-league team today so he's clearly feeling better.

So he either only returned to training yesterday so wasn't included in the squad or he's been left out because a deal is being sorted.

 

Afobe might be more mobile than Deeney, but he can't finish and if Gracia is thinking about playing two up front, then Deeney is a much, much better passer than Afobe.

 

Surely if he was staying he would be supporting the team and helping the new coach settle in...... Reckon he's off

 

Not necessarily.
The club may have said rest and recover at home. That way he doesn't infect the squad. I wouldn't want him near the few fit and healthy players that remain!
If he is feeling well enough to go out, then fresh air at a game may help him.
Time I suppose will tell.

No idea if he's been genuinely ill, or whether plans are in motion to sell him - but if it's the latter, then there simply has to be somebody very good coming in. Selling your captain and most influential player of the last 6 years to a likely relegation rival when you can't buy a win and have just changed head coach on top of having a team's worth of decent players out injured with no return dates confirmed would be the worst decision that Gino has made since being here. And for once - we'd be rightly destroyed by the media.

I don't care how few goals he's scored this season - we're in a serious slump at the moment and we need him to help us get out of it.

This isn't the time to sell Deeney. We all know we are in a scrap 'till the end of the season and for that you need as many players with great skill as you do workers and battlers.

Deeneys performances against Arsenal and Southampton won us 4 points, he only has to do that 3 or 4 more times in the next 14 games to get us over the line.

At the moment it is more important that we have him than not.

GT made a comment once about Robert Page, saying that if he was in the trenches with him, he might not want him loading the guns, but he would sure as hell feel more confident with him by his side. Deeney is one of those as well.

 

Sounds like he's gone barring any last minute change of heart, and we're ****ed.
