Troy and Danny tend to interchange when the play IMO!

Although Danny plays mostly up front, he also seems to move out wide swapping with Troy at different times throughout the game.

Overall I think Troy is an assett to the squad, but I am a little concerned about his finishing ability, though I am hoping that that he will get sharper when makes more regular appearences as a striker rather than a wide man.

There is no doubt that Deeney is improving with time on the pitch. I think we will have an excellent winger / striker for next season. Good workrate too.

He's without a doubt talented and he's looked better and better on the wing every game even if it's not his natural position.

He doesn't sulk about not being picked every match or having to cater for Graham in the middle as he's always trying his hardest.

He's definitely good enough for this level, you can see the improvement so clearly in the last few games as he's been given a run. He needs time to settle but he's certainly on the right track. Very good asset for us to have, strong, versatile, not bad on the ball, works hard, doesn't sulk. He doesn't deserve stick at all. No he may not score as many goals as Graham has, but he works hard for the team and hasn't played at CF for ages anyway.

If and when Graham goes next season I reckon he could build a good partnership with a little bloke next to him. Being big, he is obviously strong in the air and on the ground with challenges but he does have a great touch, his first time control is excellent. Just needs to learn to shoot on target properly and all will be good!!

He also proved on Saturday once again he has a great control, I personally think Deeney is a good player. He does get rinsed a bit on twitter though...

    Troy Deeney Interview

Apologies for starting a Deeney thread if others are out there.

Anyway, this has popped up on the Watford Observer site and makes for a nice informative read.

    http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...didn_t_take_my_chance_earlier_in_the_season_/

Troy Deeney admitted he only has himself to blame for failing to cement a starting place at Watford following his summer move from Walsall.
Deeney was the Hornets’ most expensive acquisition in the summer and went straight into the squad for the Championship opener at Norwich City.
But last Saturday was just the second time this season Deeney had made three consecutive starts.

Deeney was in the starting XI for all five games in November but then made just two more starts before his return against Millwall on March 5.
Tuesday night was Deeney’s fourth consecutive start and the Birmingham City fan has impressed since he was brought back into the side.
He said: “I had my chances towards the start of the season and I did not take them so it is my own fault.
I had a word with the gaffer, he sat me down and we talked and I think now you are seeing that coming out more.
“I am expressing myself a lot more and if Danny [Graham] gives me that first goal I might be on the goal trail again.”

Deeney was signed for Watford in a deal which could eventually reach £650,000, although £150,000 of that is dependant upon the Hornets being promoted and a large chunk of the £500,000 is other add-ons.
Just over four years ago Deeney was a trainee bricklayer and the striker is using his debut season in the Championship as a “learning curve”.

When asked about coming back into the side after a long time on the sidelines, Deeney said: “It makes you appreciate how well the lads have been doing. Marvin [Sordell] has done tremendous, Andi Weimann, Matty Whichelow – all of them came in and did well.
“For me it is a learning curve and I am training harder and working harder and hopefully I am starting to get the rewards for that.
“It all bodes well for the team if everyone is pushing each other for places. It keeps you on your toes.
“Danny will tell you the same, if he was in a comfort zone then he would not have scored as many as he has.”

Malky Mackay has praised Deeney’s impact in recent weeks and said it often takes new signings time to settle in, particularly if they are having to move home.
“I have a young son as well so not seeing him as much is different, it has taken a bit of adapting to,” Deeney said when asked about the difficulty of moving south.
“I have adapted to it now, he has adapted to it now and it is one of those things. It is work at the end of the day.
“I have to provide a living for my family so have to live away. We have nine more games left, well hopefully 12, and then I will be seeing him every day so it is not too bad.”

Deeney was Walsall’s top scorer last season, playing predominately as striker but he has been deployed on the right of midfield since his return.
He said: “I have played right midfield before in my early days at Walsall but I think I am starting to understand it a bit more now, looking at dvds and stuff with the coaching staff and the gaffer.
“I am just trying to do a job for the team. It is my first year in the Championship, I am learning with every game and I am just happy to be here.
“Every day is a learning experience so hopefully I can get through this season and start next season even fitter and stronger and raring to go.”

When asked to sum up his time at Watford so far, Deeney added: “I have found it very enjoyable, it has been a good learning experience and they are a great bunch of lads.
“The coaching staff and management have been nothing but generous to me and have helped me out massively.
“I have got nothing but good things to say about them and I just want to repay them with my performances and hopefully I can keep doing that.”

I think he'll do well here, he's certainly got potential- and it is after all only his first season in the Championship (look at Buckley, McGinn and Graham this season).

Nice to see that he's got a good head on his shoulders, unlike Ellington!

Good interview, he seems like a good, balanced lad and he should do well here provided he keeps up his work rate. He definitley has the potential to be a good player at this level who can offer something to the team.

I don't think it's anything particularly new but on the official twitter feed this morning..

    wfcbadgemoose Watford FC Official
Been asked a few times re Troy Deeney's transfer so here are details: £350k initial + max £150k apps clause (at £2.5k per app). Also sell-on

With my excruciatingly poor grasp of maths does that make it 60 appearances and then we stop the £2.5k payments?
So far I think he's played (including sub appearances) 40 times.

As I said, nothing particularly new but at least it's out there officially now.

I read so much criticism of him day after day and I don't understand it at all! To me he has all the attributes to be a decent target man. Yes he doesn't score millions but he creates plenty of chances and has scored a few in the last few weeks now. I think he's brilliant! Discuss...

I think he's decent. Just needs a goalscorer to compliment him. Hopefully Garners the man. We need another striker though as we all know who the third choice is....

Never going to be a goalscorer at this level, saying that, every other aspect of his game is very good

Brilliant? Not a chance. He's decent, his attitude is spot on but he's not a Championship goalscorer.

He ain't brilliant, but he's certainly got a lot better this season. His goal on Tuesday night was particularly well taken.

He's only 23 ffs, he has plenty of time to improve and develop as a player. Remember he had to come back into football again after missing a few years due to being released as a youngster.

He is only 23 yes but in regard to goalscoring its more often an instinct you eiher have or you dont, no necessarily something which can be trained into a player

Garner is our saviour now anyway, he is certainly more of a goalscorer than Deeney

Alright tiger. I was commenting on the fact he was described as 'brilliant'. He's not. I then said he was decent with a spot on attitude. FFS.

All I'm saying is he has plenty of time to improve and develop, I don't expect him to set the Premier League alight but there is absolutely no reason why he can't get to a Darius Henderson level or better.

Deeney should be one of the first names on the teamsheet right now, if not the first. He's on a good run of form and seemed to compliment Garner well, and worked well with Sordell also. Nice to see such a hard-working forward in a WFC shirt. Definitely the most hard-working since Graham.

  35. nascot

You're right, absolutely no reason why he can't improve to a better level. Right now he's not a Championship goalscorer, but the potential is there.
