Pay a guy while he's in prison?

    No, ta.

But the days of unproven Italian show ponies and deluded fans seem to be just around the corner.

Who's to say he is still being paid whilst in prison?

Deeney's only chance is if it's Zola's call, and he takes current players' views very seriously. Even then it's not a certainty.

But financially it makes no sense to pay him for five months in prison and one month doing his own pre-season, unless the manager believes he will be a big part of the team in the run-in. If it's down to the owners, the board or someone like Nani, he's gone.

EDIT: Even if he's not being paid in prison, he can't realistically play until January, and his contract's up at the end of the season. Unless he is in Zola's plans, keeping him doesn't make sense.

I see the days of negative fans with crappy attitudes are far from over.

It's a fact. We wont be looking at the Troy Deeneys of this world any more.

The Pozzos are serious football people, and they're not mugs. We will see quality players arriving over the next few weeks. We will start the season with a squad capable of winning this division. By then, the only thing worth debating will be if Zola is the man to manage them effectively.

You may well be right but I think we should be guarded and modest about our position until we see quality players and performances.
Troy Deeney has been an idiot and I think we should dispense of his services, but he scored important goals for us and performed well in the second half of the season when we needed him. He also bided his time on the bench not making a fuss, took his chance when it came and proved to be a threat at Championship level.
I would also debate that if he hadn't got put away we could have sold him on at a tidy profit. Which is exactly the Pozzo business model.

There's nothing wrong with being modest.

There's also nothing wrong with being excited, and dreaming of what could be. That's what football is about, isn't it?

    cheeky git.!!

I am surrounded by soiled tissues, excited about what the future may hold for our club.

    But

I still only expect us to finish mid table next season, anything above that is a bonus.

To be fair, I can understand that, because that's the way this division usually works.

We'll be the exception, you'll see!

Believe it or not Young Offenders take prisoners up to the age of 21. Then they go into the Adult prison system. How old is Deeney? He must be older than 21?

    Watford to keep Troy Deeney

Watford have confirmed their new shirt numbers for this season - with Troy Deeney, who is currently in prison, retaining the number nine.
I would keep him and hope he does really well for the 2nd part of the season...yes he has done wrong that is why he is in prison but i don`t see the point in sacking him for another club to come along and sign him up and the club will lose out on any transfer fee. I know other fans will say that we are a family club and all that which is great and i love the club for that. Just take Chelsea last season did they sack John Terry? did Liverpool sack Steve G.

Looking at the squad there is a lot of dead wood which can be got rid off and the club will have to if Zola gets what he wants and signs 3 more players
I think he will be looking at bring another Keeper in and loaning out one of ours

I would sack him. He is in a very very privileged position and should feel the consequences. If the average man in the street was found guilty and put inside he would lose his job.
Just because the likes of Gerrard and Terry act the way they do, with no consequences, is not a justification. Deeney didn't just punch the guy he kicked him many times when he was on the floor.
If nothing else keeping him would not fit the community image of the club and set the wrong example for every young Watford supporter and player.

I hate to say it but the world has change and i`m not saying for the good.
Look at qpr they are keeping Barton, i just feel that we should keep him see how he does or sale him and get some money back..the 2nd half of the season he show what a good player he can be i think he will settle down i think this is a wake up call to him self....you can tell he is a good family man the way he loves his son (by what i have read from his twitter account)
he is young and made a big mistake he should be given ago but one wrong step kick him out
no one will think less of Watford for keeping him like i said a number of top prem clubs have turn the other cheek when it comes to players and if we did let him go he will have an other club within the week because that is just the way football is

It's an indication that he will be staying but I wouldn't take it as certain that he's staying what with Iwelumo still having a number despite the club announcing that he will leave on a free transfer.

I hope that he does stay though.
