It would probably be in Deeney's financial interset for us to sack him. Other clubs would be lining up to sign him for nothing and consequently be able to give him a huge signing on fee plus better wages.

While I understand Chewitts opinion, do we really want Deeney to benefit finacially from his criminal offence and for the club to lose out on a transfer fee.

If GT had still been at the club he would have probably given Deeney another chance as he did with Tony Coton.

    Sorry I don't get it.
Surely, It's not about money or him profiting from it. It's about what is right and wrong.

I know that some will think that this is idealistic rubbish, but Watford are leaders in the community and developing young players. Keeping him sets the wrong example.

You are correct that GT acted as a character witness for TC but the offence was before he joined us. I am not sure that he would have got any support if it had been during his time at the club.

In society, yes. In business, not so much, and the Pozzos are quite clearly businessmen.

Sweden have just recalled convicted wife beater (the offense not the sleeveless t-shirt) Mathias Gerndt to their national team. Just saying!

I think the new owners think if they can let this blow over, let him do his time and then come back and be sold - then we're fine.

Very disappointed in the club if this is true, the club bans for life any fans standing upto the scum on and off the pitch who did their time but more then happy to pay the wages of a coward who kicks a non athlete in the head while he is helpless on the ground?

Hope he fails at Watford and at any other club!

One rule for players and one for fans who pay their wages!

he must be worth a few bob -marlon kings post convicytion clubs would be interested as they do not seem to discriminate agioanst people who have made misjudgements/mistakes in their lives...
    deeneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey

maradona - most scum canuts think he was a great footballer - he was a junkie scum cheating canut... should have ben banned for life from playing and taking any role in football - all's fair in love and war..

Would he actually be a player Zola think will fit into his way of playing?

Maybe Birmingham will buy him then he can team up with Marlon King in the Dream team? They could go out in Broad street, Marlon can Hit the Ladies and Troy the students(As long as they on ground)

I don't really understand the relevance of when the offence was committed. GT didn't only act as a character witness for Tony Coton he signed him and in his contract stipulated that Coton had to do some community work. Marlon King was signed despite his previous extensive criminal record. (interestingly when he was at Gillingham they continued to pay his salary whilst he was serving 18 months inside, later reduced to 9 months on appeal)

Graham Stack currently on trial at the club was arrested as a result of a nighclub brawl last year (albeit he was subsequently cleared. He was also cleared from a rape charge in 2005.

What you seem to be saying (please correct me if I am wrong) is that it is ok for the club to sign anyone with a criminal record (or a dodgy reputation) provided that the offences took place whilst he was playing for another club. In other words if Deeney had committed the offence whilst at Walsall you would have no problem with him being at Watford now.

It needs to be borne in mind that the club extended Deeneys contract in the full knowlerdge of the offence and the fact that Deeney was pleading guilty to it.

A case could possibly be argued for keeping Deeney so that he can impress on the youngsters where he went wrong and not to follow in his footsteps, similarly to when ex drug users are imvited to schools to point out the perils of drugs.

I personally would give him a second chance, provided that he had no previous and provided that he does some community work similar to that which Coton did. I do however understand those that would get rid, but as I said in my earlier posting this would not punish Deeney financially.

Pleased for Troy , that the politically correct ,never made a mistake in my life brigade havent swayed the club from making a sound business decision.
If we sacked him another club probably a championship rival would snap him up the following day! Much better to keep him give him a second chance and then if things dont work out then sell at xmas.
Money pays the bills not morals.
I think the way Troy improved in the 2nd half of last season (and getting goal of the season) whilst having this court case hanging over him sounds like he has a mental strength that the team may need with so many changes , yes what he did was badly wrong and he stuffed up big time and yes I feel for the victim ,but having gone through the justice system , if he gives or has given compensation to the victim then he deserves a 2nd chance at Watford Football Club.

No point in getting rid, he'll only go to another top 10 Championship team. With Zola as manager Deeney can only improve, and with Vydra, Beleck and the other chap we should have a very strong strike force.

Good people who make mistakes and people who kick people in the head while they're on the floor are different people. Troy Deeney is clearly a bit of a c***.

At the press conference it was mentioned that he hasn't made any sort of apology. He needs to do this and show some remorse.

I think it would be bad business to let him go for free, but I would rather we sold him.

Stop speculating, you have no proof that he hasn't since.

Also, in other posts King's name has been thrown about, completely different scenario, King has a string of offences on the run up to his conviction.

Thanks for a very comprehensive and informed response.
The point I was trying to make (not very well) was that I think that TC would have felt the wrath of GT if the offence had occurred when he was with the club. (this is the manager who apparently dropped Richard Jobson for not shaving on a match day).

I understand the financial agrument but hope that the club make a stand.

Doesnt showing him around as community show pony say "it's alright to go and **** someone in Watford High Street on a Saturday night because you can always get a second chance"?

As for those on here thinking that everyone deserves a second chance. I agree just not at our club.

The case could also be argued that the youngster will see that you can get away with criminal activity without risking your livelyhood.

BING - give that man a carrot. The decision on this will be financially motivated - nothing else.

I think he has shown remorse. He's sorry - that he's in jail. Would be good if he publicly stated his regret and apologised - it won't make a difference though.

If he had it would have been all over the news. Of course it would. Because the club would spin it to shine a better light on Troy and the situation.

To assume he has apologised and it's been kept secret is a little na*ve tbh.

I've changed my mind on this, I think now perhaps we should give him the 2nd chance but with strings attached.

He should be 'used' for community stuff with a real emphasis on how a moment of madness can completely ruin your life, acknowledging that he is very lucky to have got away (ie keep his job) with it and that most wouldn't.

He needs to move his family locally, I don't like this situation with having quite a few players living over 75 miles away. Even if some of them stay in hotels a few nights of the week, it's not good, especially for the younger ones.

I'm getting a tad annoyed with various people that keep saying that if this were "anyone else" they would be sacked on the spot.

Rubbish. Why? Because footballers unlike office staff, bus drivers, cleaners, accountants, policemen, doctors etc etc etc are ASSETS and have MONETARY VALUE

Put another, I believe Watford FC's turnover is around the £11mil mark... If Deeney is worth, say, 600k (for arguements sake) WHY would the BUSINESS simply WRITE OFF an asset worth so much? It simply isnt as easy as that.

They will have looked at the circumstances particularly as to whether Deeney is a canut or not and simply come to (in my oppnion) the correct decision and retained his services with (I am sure) lots of conditions attached.

I am in NO WAY condoning TD's actions BUT he is an ASSET to Watford FC and despite being bought by wealthy owners, businessmen simply do not write off vaulable assets.

If any simpletons out there STILL dont get this.... name me another type of business where the PEOPLE within the business are worth MORE and have a resale value higher than the turnover of the company?

    Oh great, this discussion again...

Back onto the original topic, the numbers have no impact on whether or not we are likely to keep Deeney, Iwelumo or anyone else, given that Zola hasn't stripped anyone of their number. He doesn't have to rate Iwelumo, or approve of Deeney's actions, to show them a basic level of courtesy and respect.

The amount of people on their moral high horses is actually quite sickening.

He's made a mistake and is currently paying for it. He should be out not long before the start of the season and should be given a chance to prove himself on the contract that the club gave him with the full knowledge of what he had done.

Talking about us being a 'community/family' club is a complete irrelevance as well. If a member of your family or community did what Troy had done then you would support them and help them back on the right path rather than turning your back on them and washing your hands.

Did the same people have the same problem when Marlon fired us to promotion with his long list of more serious, repetitive convictions?

I'm not sure he'll fit our style of play anyway but I would give him a chance. I like many others have done something that I have always regretted. This doesn't mean that should be it, no chances. We've had plenty of players with chequered pasts but don't remember them getting much stick. See you soon Troy. You owe us some goals

Supporters are assets to clubs but all the ones that got lifetime bans after the trouble against scum are not allowed back within a certain distance on match days? They did their time and most were having fights with other men who were able to defend themselves? TD kicked a student in the head while on the ground and Watford will be paying thousands of pounds a week to play at Vicarage Road, Double Standards one rule for players and one for Supporters. Those who stick up for Marlon King, he to this days still denies the last one of his crimes, we try and bring respect to the game and a line of clubs could not wait to give "woman hitter" yet another chance. Big fat Ron one slip of the tongue, will never work in football again, Marlon King numerous convictions and will earn more in a year then most will in a lifetime.

I really don't understand how people on here stick up for these overpaid thugs and Bullies, but it is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I bet you wont find many of the Olympic Gold Medalist beating up women or kicking students in the head why they are on the ground, and if they did the sport would wash their hands of them.

The FA and PFA need to send out a message, they earn good money, even in the Championship and say they lose their right to find a club once they have a criminal record.

I may have this wrong but David Haye was banned from boxing for hitting another boxer outside the ring? That send out the right sort of message

    TD get rid

Again, my point has been missed. When i use the word "ASSET" I use it in a BUSINESS SENSE

    PLEASE READ

In financial accounting, assets are economic resources. Anything tangible or intangible that is capable of being owned or controlled to produce value and that is held to have positive economic value is considered an asset. Simply stated, assets represent value of ownership that can be converted into cash (although cash itself is also considered an asset).[1]

The balance sheet of a firm records the monetary[2] value of the assets owned by the firm. It is money and other valuables belonging to an individual or business.[1] Two major asset classes are tangible assets and intangible assets. Tangible assets contain various subclasses, including current assets and fixed assets.[3] Current assets include inventory, while fixed assets include such items as buildings and equipment.[4]

In THIS sense, fans are NOT assets but PLAYERS ARE

Let me re-iterate once again my point. I DO NOT CONDONE TROY DEENEY, he has been a fool and has rightly been punished. Let's not forget too that the last time the club said anything on the matter was when they suggested that they needed to speak to him to see if he was remorseful or not. I can only assume given his inclusion in the squad list and lack of any other announcement, that they have done this and that they are happy that he will be rehabilitated and return a better human being.

Ultimately though it is AND WILL ALWAYS BE about money in business. We are a club that loses money year on year and until we become profitable, any owner would be very foolish to simply throw money away.

which bit of `he`s out of contract in the summer` did you miss ?

explain to us the value of keeping him (along with his plummeting value as he can sign for someone for free in January) versus the value of paying his salary to someone else , someone else who isnt in Jail and is available now...

What about supporters the club banned for doing much less than TD? They did their time but not allowed to pay money to the club? Do you not consider them assets? I know (not well) one of the fans who got a ban and he made a mistake, lost his job but since out of prison working again but not allowed in the Vic? Don't see you defending the supporters ? Watford will exist after TD has gone next season but would the football club exist supporters? I know who I consider a better asset! An overpaid bully who cant handle a beer or someone did not want the scum taking **** in the Vic?
