I mean, that is basically Pearson's approach. Try to win every game.not recklessly of course, but it is crazy not to approach every game like that.

Of you walk on thinking you might just scrape a point you have a slim chance of achieving it.

All on Pearson then. Pozzo as much use as a chocolate fireguard and Giraldi incompetent.

    Good luck Nigel.

He is pinning his hopes on the likes of Welbeck and Cleverley keeping fit and being useful experienced players for the squad.

    Good luck with that Nigel!

We're down. It's over. We had a little new manager bounce, but we are now 1 point from 9, and our moronic board have confirmed relegation by refusing to capitalise on the improved form and actually give us a proper chance by signing a few reinforcements.

Cruel yes, but still in touch with the pack, there are enough games & survival is dooable. Don't let the doom merchants have their field day tonight.

Jesus you lot are a strange bunch. Every Norwich, West Ham, Brighton, villa and muff fan will be saying they are doomed. So tight down there that 2 wins and we will all be saying we’re staying up

Far from over. Just annoying that results went our way and we failed to capitalize on it.

Well we must win next week as we won't get much from the 3 games afterwards!

Two last minute defeats, horrendous defending today, 19th place and arrogant inactive owners who refused to add a single defensive option in the window. Why would anyone be anything but pessimistic?

We certainly have some odd sorts. I remember the power clappers after the home game against Sheffield United. Bizarre.

As predicted, the Villa defeat was a disaster and now we’re back in another nosedive spin.

The defending today was as bad as anything under Gracia or QSF. We were fragile and panicky. No surprise it’s coincided with Sarr’s injury.

I know other teams are in trouble but there is something fragile and flaky about this team. As soon as they think they’re safe they stop playing. They’ve always done this.

They gifted Everton a win today. Everton were beaten, you could see it in their body language.

These two games (Villa and Everton) would have killed us. We’re not good enough and the table doesn’t lie. Only 5 wins all season tells you all you need to know.

Is it possible to stay up? Yes, but will they? I just don’t think they’re good enough or have the nerve to do it.

I had earmarked 6 wins from 15. Sadly two of those were Villa and Everton.

4 wins won't be enough. You can say "there's 39 points to play for" but there aren't. There's about 18 and we need every single one of them.

We will be fine. Beat Brighton, which we will, and it’s easily sailing from there. Just enjoy the team in the Prem actually having something play for for once. It’s finally exciting.

That is the part I was bemused by as well especially today. We were in control of the game, five minutes till half time and we pressed the self destruct button. That is not
the tight defensive unit we had been seeing prior to Villa. Even at home to Spurs they rarely got through us. What has brought this all on? It's not like they have no
motivation to stay up. That second goal still haunts me, such an easy goal for Mina to score - no marking - not the Pearson drilled unit. Has it gone on vacation?

Losing both of the last 2,in the manner we did, feels catastrophic to our survival chances. Sure there are positives, such as we scored and were leading but we really needed a win 1 from one of the last 2 or not to lose either imo. Even a win against Brighton now only has us level

This is why you can never trust Watford and why I think we’ll now go down. We were in total control and Everton caused us zero problems all half. Then out of nowhere they score two goals from corners. The second one was actually a minute over the allotted 2 minutes of injury time. This is what’s happening to us right now. That’s two goals conceded in consecutive games in time over what the referee should have allowed. That’s gut-wrenching to concede goals in this way.

When you think back, it should have been a straightforward 2-0 win. Everton were beaten, but we handed them the victory. It was totally down to our shortcomings rather than anything they did.

It seems as soon as we concede, no matter what the score is at the time, the players mentally think they’ve lost. They just completely collapse.

The Pearson infallibility is now shattered.

Of course we’ll pick up points along the way, but 40 is now beyond us, IMO.

Nonsense. They scored a few seconds into the 2 added on minutes. So naturally at least minute extra is going to be added on to allow for their celebration, as the ball was dead and there was no play in that time.

  21. hornetboy1

    hornetboy1 First Team Captain

    Nonsense to you too.

Their equaliser was in the third minute of the 2 additional minutes of stoppage time. If the referee adds on a minute because of celebrations, why didn't he play another minute after their equaliser? He blew straight after the kick off.

No defensive for us letting in another goal... but I don’t think you’ll find another game with just under 2 minutes of discretional time added on top of just two minutes. 30 secs is the normal time for a goal added on.

I don’t remember exactly but I think it was few seconds under two minutes over the minimum time when they scored. Not a few seconds over two seconds.

¿Does the word ‘minimum’ not translate into español?

    http://www.theifab.com/laws/chapter/27/section/71/

The ref has to allow time for goal celebrations. And the additional time can be increased.

  24. Davidmsawyer

    Davidmsawyer Statto Statto Statto

That is a good point @hornetboy1, I hadn’t picked that up at the time.

Again for the people that will complain, I’m not saying that excuses us for letting the goal... but in 99% of games this season that corner would not have happened.

  25. UEA_Hornet

Mina’s first goal was just inside the 2 minutes added time. I remember because watching on the river I was waiting to see what time would be added on as the clock ticked over just before the corner came in.

The 30 seconds thing is one of those silly commentator made up things I’m afraid.

  27. Davidmsawyer

Yes that is the rule. As is leaving the pitch at the nearest point or a yellow card (which not all players did today - not one yellow card).

I guess consistency is the point. Today was an extreme anomaly regarding the extra minutes/seconds played.

So he just picks and chooses which goal celebration he adds on time on for? Instead of translating into Spanish, you'd better understand in English first.

  30. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Jeez! Everton score a goal 10 seconds or so into additional time. The clock then essentially stops. By the time they kick off the clock is now on 1 minute something. So there’s still the majority of 2 minutes play to go because Everton scored so soon into it. They force a corner near the end of that time, which they score again. There’s then only a couple of seconds left and so immediately after kick off the whistle goes for half time.

It’s really not that difficult to understand. Pawson doesn’t need to add on 30 seconds or whatever for a celebration if in his view he’d have blown for half time immediately if we’d cleared the corner.

  31. hornetboy1

    hornetboy1 First Team Captain

What they should say is time added on until Everton/Villa etc score. That would be more accurate.

  32. Davidmsawyer

    Davidmsawyer Statto Statto Statto

Mmm. Honestly, I’m not defending our players here at all. They cocked up for the second goal. this is not me trying to back them up.

But you are saying Mina’s goal was just under the 2 minutes of time. Can you point out where in the rules that means Everton should get 2 extra minutes? Why do their celebrations after that point matter? It makes no sense.

you would play the extra time after the ball hit the back of the net.

  33. hornetboy1

    hornetboy1 First Team Captain

But he didn't add on 30 seconds. He added on an extra minute. Had we cleared the corner immediately, the whistle would not have gone because Everton would not have scored. He have played on. Jeez, it's not difficult to understand.

Must admit did think the 2nd was well into the injury time despite the 1st goal.

Maybe our players thought the same hence losing concentration!
