I agree. My personal need for premier league football to resume completely outweighs any concerns Of those employed In football. Why on earth Nigel Pearson is worried about his octogenarian father, (who lives with him),catching a potentially fatal disease is beyond me. After all we only need to finish nine games, before the close season and the August restart.

If Germany can restart than why can't we ? OK, it's only the first week in "new normal" football times but if they can get to week 3 or 4 with no big hiccups than it will look bad if we don't start

The TV company's are looking at virtually adding crowds and noises, the technology is there. It sounds hideous I know, but , if done correctly it could add back some of the atmosphere, and you would probably forget it wasn't real during the game.

We are not the first to bring back football during the virus, but we can be the best!!

Well if the Government had their way games might be " FTA" but not sure how Sky and BT will like that!

And well it would just be games like Burnley v Palace ..

The big games will stlll be "It's live" on Sky.

I'm all in favour of people catching the virus and us leaving lockdown, but even I draw the line at crowd noise being pumped out over the PA system.

We tried that one in the 90s I think.

Anyway have to just come from onr stand for it to be realistic in most games.

Or you don’t want football to restart so Footballers being away from their families is an easy excuse to hide behind.

Void the playing of the remaining current PL season. Don't risk health based on current uncertainty. Start again in August all being well.

Give Liverpool the present season title on a majority voting system with the other PL clubs voting, given they were so far ahead.

Use a computer program/algorithm to determine European places.

    Scrap relegation.

I’m going to be honest... I want it voided so that we don”t get relegated... Simple as that.

Nothing to do with the lack of atmosphere if it were to be played behind closed doors because imo, football is football and if we’re losing, i’m still gonna be pissed off

Likewise, I think it would be fair to say that if we were in the position of Sheffield United or Leicester, our opinions would be completely different.

PPG, but with no relegation. Gives the league Champions, and allocates the European spots (and prize money for finishing positions - not sure what happens with that if the TV money is pulled though).

As for the Championship, if they want to promote sides then it'd be a 22 team league with 4 going down the next 2 years

Then the PL season two from now will be a shambles because there'd be 21 teams.

I see this said a lot, I must just be extremely thick, but why? You play each team home and away, so why does it matter if there are an odd it even a amount of teams?

  17. Because there would be 40 games and not 38. And everyone knows 38 is the most suitable number in all situations. Have you never heard of catching 38 winks? It rained for 38 days and 38 nights? Elton John had a top 38 single? 48 is the new 38? Did you know that the Venetian practice of isolating ships for 40 days, hence quarantine, was actually 38 days and we should be using the term trigintaoctotine?

Celtic crowned champions of Scotland without actually winning it. Ugh.

I know that the situation isn’t perfect for anyone. But I really really hoped football would avoid the idea of crowning ‘champions’.

Because there'd be one team unable to play and behind in fixtures every week, plus it'd be impossible to have all the final round of fixtures played at the same time.

I imagine if this was last season then there would be more people who would want the season to continue, especially with a Europen place still within reach and an FA Cup final.

The final round of games on the last day of the season would be the only issue. With Europe nobody actually plays at the same time anymore, and now we have a winter break the rounds could easily be staggered anyway.

The point is, every club’s decision as to whether the season should be void or continued is completely based upon their own interests.

The idea that the season should be voided based on health reasons is, lets be honest, a massive scapegoat... It’s no coincidence that its the bottom 6 clubs/clubs that had a relatively poor season (ie Spurs or Arsenal) are in that “void” category. If you think it’s solely because of health and safety, you are totally deluded... Realistically, if they did choose to play under the conditions that they’re planning to, the amount of precautions and measures taken will ensure that no-one will be able to transmit any diseases.

Do you really think Deeney or Pearson would have stated what theyve been saying vocally on the matter had we been top 10 with a chance to play in the final? Absolutely not.

Hence why I hope us as a club continue to blag that totally irrelevant “health and safety” nonsense in order for us to somehow talk our way into safety... It’s the best and most secure chance we’ve got at staying up and I totally go along with it

I *think* this is most appropriate place for this: John Oliver exploring why starting sports isn't as easy as it seems to be in the time of social distancing (well worth 20 mins of your time) AND he proposes a fantastic alternative:

I don't think anyone has denied that each club's own interests are the main factor for them. It's more that there seem to be other factors at play which concern players and clubs too - and its ridiculous to just brush them away as lies or 'convenient'.

Deeney has this morning said that some basic questions have been asked by players and he's been shocked that the authorities haven't been able to answer them - those questions revolve around health and safety so its irrelevant who asked them and for which club they play for. He also said there are concerns from BAME players and that they are more at risk - and yet extra provisions for this have been deemed too expensive. Is that really a good enough excuse to just accept?

If any of what Deeney has said is untrue, then surely the PL can easily refute it?

When talking of comments, its only fair to look at all players who have expressed concern surely? Aguero, Sterling, Lampard, Rudiger, Abraham, Willian, Steve Bruce - all have expressed concern and none of them have anything to lose in terms of relegation. Indeed, most of them I expect are missing out on some quite hefty bonuses by not playing for CL qualification etc. So what might their reasons be if its not concern for health and safety?

You can add Duxbury to the list too.

For me, I'd accept a restart but only if it was 100% cast iron guaranteed the season would then play to a conclusion. So far as I can work out we're currently in a sweet spot where, baring any absolutely crackers way of working out final placings being put in place, we're safe if a ball isn't kicked again this season. Even if there's only 0.4 of a goal or whatever in it. Boohoo for Bournemouth but you're right, I don't care about them. But obviously that could (and probably would) all change if we restart and then stop again.

So our captain and head coach are accused of being liars over health and safety, yet members are threatened on here for suggesting the club is run badly by the owner.

    What a world.

At which point did I say they were lying?

Do I think what they’re saying is right? Yes

Do I think they’d be saying what they’re saying now if Watford were in a better position in the league? No

Is that a problem? No, because i’d do the same if it were my business and there being the risk of losing hundreds of millions in the long run.

People are afraid to admit they want certain things because it’s deemed “immoral”.

I personally would like to void the season because I, as a Watford fan would not like to see us get relegated this season. The same way thousands of Liverpool fans would like to see out the season to see them win it.

So Deeney’s heightened concern for his health as a man of colour goes away if we were 9th? The guy can be outspoken but I don’t buy that for one minute.

Again, I ask why players and staff for clubs in the CL spots and still in Europe have said the same as ours?

So is having their view a 'scapegoat', 'deluded' and 'nonsense' as you've stated, or isn't it?

Because you've then gone on to say they are 'right' on the issue in the very next post.

Deeney would say what he has regardless of position .

If it had been some of the others I might have been tempted to say they don't want to play.
