Last time we played SW at home, we lost the Championship title. Odd how far things have come since that day. Even stranger. the three teams that went up that season went down last season. I know Norwich did go down again earlier but it is still quite strange. Anyone else go to that final game, when they scored at the death and you could hear a huge laugh from Muff as we handed them the title on a yellow and red platter?
Mu guess for the team: -------------------------Foster------------------------- ------Kabasele------Cathcart-------Wilmot------ --Ngakia-------------------------------------Sema-- ----Cleverley---------Quina---------Chalobah---- -------------------Pedro----Perica------------------- Bench: Bachmann, Sierralta, Stevenson, Femenia, Dele-Bashiru, Sarr, Suarez
If Sarr and Suarez are named on the bench I'll be jumping for joy. I'd take one of them to be honest (obv preference for Sarr) but expect to see neither.
Have they? We spent a few years scrabbling around in the Prem and are now back at our natural level. Wednesday have stayed there. I wouldn’t say that was “far” at all.
We have a new ground, we have a top class training facility, we are leading in many areas of development including the sensory lounge. In every way we are a modern club and far better than we were. Player wise we now sell players for 10m + and none of us flinch! Back pre 2012 we had very few quality players and the depth of the squad was barely more than 15 senior players whilst currently we have more senior players sitting it out! (not that that is a good thing)
and having no recognised left back isn't new. This is how we ended up with Gary Porter, Tommy Mooney and Marcus Gayle in that position!
We went what felt like years without a left back and it ended with Doyley playing there, shanking the ball in to the Lower Rous time after time
Small problems all round and then credence given to such nonsense by our clappers, followed by a confirmed sale of both 3 days later and then clappers claiming the two are completely unrelated.
**** the bed! Vlad saying that Sarr might be involved in Saturday. Dawson available too which kind of puts paid to the nonsense that he was refusing to play. Probably a good idea the ITK that kicked that all off deleted his tweet rather quickly...
Sarr is excellent news. No Hughes for another month is a blow. Looks like the Dawson refusing to play story was rubbish? Guess we'll find out this weekend. Strangely no mention of TDB and Penaranda, but assume they will be back.
I still don't believe he'll play - but imagine what Sarr would do to a championship full back. The Suarez comment is a little weird, would love to know more.
Leventhal also saying in question box under one of his articles that Capoue is not likely to be going. If we could keep Capoue, Sarr and Suarez Id be ecstatic.
It’s all very cryptic isn’t it. The comments about Suárez. The vagueness about other players. My guess is we will start with the same eleven as against Boro, with Dawson brought into the squad on the bench as probably the only change. Hopefully then we would see both Sarr and Suarez at Newport. Did you take it to mean Hughes not back in training until mid October or back in contention by then?
Surely Sarr will be in the squad on Saturday if the club has announced he's fit enough to feature. Looks like the news on Dawson refusing to play could be false.
"[Will Hughes] will start to work with us in the middle of October" ...I would assume means that's when he's expected to be back training with the first team squad, rather than when he's fit enough to play
Thank You. The match on Tuesday will, I believe, be a useful opportunity to give certain returnees a bit of a run out.
As always, you have to stitch pieces together and make conclusions. Étienne Capoue, Roberto Pereyra, Gerard Deulofeu, Danny Welbeck and Andre Gray are all unavailable, but Troy Deeney, Luis Suarez and Will Hughes are closer to a return. From that line I take it Capoue, Pereyra & Welbeck are just not being considered because their minds are elsewhere. We know Gray and Geri are genuine injuries, although Hughes being closer to a return is a concern, as they're saying Hughes will not start training until mid-October. That implies Gray is out for some time. "[Will Hughes] will start to work with us in the middle of October. He is a very good player, an important player for us and I'm waiting for him to be available for our practises. He is one solution for us." It's good to hear Deeney is likely to be brought back in. I know that's not a popular view, but he'll be so important this season where we're in a state of flux. "We are waiting for Troy to see when he is available and ready to practise with us," said Ivi*. "It will depend on his physical condition when we can use him. It's also encouraging this line regarding Suarez. Seems like he was taken out of the group, probably for transfer reasons, but that's not materialised so is being introduced back and maybe on the bench tomorrow. Gray's injury has probably blocked his move for now. "The situation with Suarez is different because he stayed one period out of the squad and now he starts to join us and we take a decision tomorrow on him.
Some points from his press conference: - Looking for 3 or 4 signings - Not looking to sign a striker - Welbeck sorting out 'his problem' (insinuated that he doesn't want to play with us at the moment) - Clear that the players were given the choice whether they wanted to be involved or not, which is encouraging when coupled with the Sarr / Suarez news
As usual we mere mortals can do nothing except wait for the team to be announced at 2pm on Saturday. (I do wish the Twitter feed would stop revealing the starting eleven in numerical order, which they’ve started doing this season) As I said earlier, I reckon it will be the same starting eleven as v Boro. But at least we are being teased with the promise of better things allegedly not far away.
