So even if we take that as face value, that's his agent's fault, not Watford's. Who hired the agent, and who did the agent work for? Marseille don't want a court case because they know we've got them bang to rights. That's why they're settling. How, exactly, should the club have stopped this from happening? The thing about unilateral breeches is that they are...well, unilateral. Given that there's no point having a player at the club if they don't want to be there, what exactly was the club supposed to do? Send the boyz 'round and abduct him with a black hood over his head before brainwashing him Clockwork Orange style in depths of the Vic's sublevel?
Any chance you could represent Boris and his government in court for breaking the WA, if it goes that far? You could place the blame on the EU.
Where have you seen that Marseille are settling? We are still trying to talk to lawyers to see if there is anything we can do.
As to what we should do, if the contact is watertight and is only worth £2.7m in total wages I’d just keep his registration so he can’t play. It’s chicken feed compared to our monster external debt so let’s be vindictive. After all we spent £3m buying Zuniga who Napoli actually sold to someone else. However the reality is he plays for Marseille while we look like fools. And Arakel backs the club all the way.
We’ve not won an away match since January (I’m counting Oxford as a draw). We’ve lost our last 6 away league matches. Not feeling very confident.
Leventhal's commented a few times that the settlement is coming and expected by both sides, in the "1-10m" range. I suspect this will carry on for a bit before OM pay up, but they will. The paperwork would have been submitted to the relevant football bodies in the UK (who do look it all over) so there's almost certainly nothing wrong with it. Should be noted that Gueye's own public comments also undermine his case: "My mistake in this story is having had faith in a person who advised me poorly." Being unhappy with your agent's advice doesn't invalidate a contract you signed.
As I understand it there was nothing wrong with the contract and Gueye did officially join us. Marseille then bought him for around £3m.
Then why not announce the sale like they announced the signing? At least they wouldn’t look so incompetent. Anyway, Arakel has got a tweet saying 1-10 million so I’m aiming higher than 3 sir!
To quote Paul Merson, “our team is a box of revels, you just have no idea what our team is going to be.” What I would love to see 3-4-3 Foster/Bachmann Wilmot, Cathcart, Kabasele Ngakia, Cleverley, *Hughes (if fit), Sema Sarr Suarez Pedro *Chalobah 3-5-2 Foster/Bachmann Wilmot, Cathcart, Kabasele Ngakia, Cleverley, Quina, *Hughes (if fit), Sema Sarr, Pedro What will probably see 3-4-3 Foster/Bachmann Wilmot, Cathcart, Kabasele Ngakia, Cleverley, Chalobah, Sema Femenia, Pedro, Quina 3-5-2 Foster/Bachmann Wilmot, Cathcart, Kabasele Ngakia, Cleverley, Quina, Chalobah, Sema Perica, Pedro I expect a very difficult game. Sheff Weds know they need the points just to not get cast away early on in the season. They are at home and will go all out for a win. They are organized and functioning as a team. We on the other are a shambles and don’t even know who really wants to be here. Ivic will pick the “best team available” to him, which we all know, isn’t our best team available. Would be happy with a draw, but think we will lose 3-1. Sheff Weds will want it more than us.
Loan players not included because they didn’t feature for us last year, but how has any player earned a move to another club at a higher level. To our supposedly PL level strikers: did your goals help us to avoid relegation? No, you didn’t score nearly enough goals and performances were generally poor all season. WE GOT RELEGATED To our supposedly PL level wingers: did your assists help us to avoid relegation? No, you didn’t cross the ball, pick a player or get to the byline nearly enough to create the chances we needed to stay up. WE GOT RELEGATED To our supposedly PL level midfielders: did your link up play help us to avoid relegation? No, there was next to no link up play with strikers and you didn’t help out the defence enough. WE GOT RELEGATED To our supposedly PL level defenders: did your amazing defending help us to avoid relegation? No, we conceded way too many goals and were easily manhandled by the big 6 teams. WE GOT RELEGATED The bottom line says it all... WE GOT RELEGATED. Not one person in our squad has earned a move to a PL or higher team. They did a **** job last year and as a team got relegated. They need to all wake up and make amends to get us back in the PL and show why they are too good for the championship and the PL is their level.
True. But each and everyone of them will be blaming the other players for the team's failure. That is the way the human mind works. Perhaps, when nobody is interested in buying them, they will wake up to their responsibility for the failure and then put in a shift for us. I doubt it though.
I agree with your sentiment, albeit you could argue that, for example, Hughes and Sarr did not deserve to be relegated and were let down by those around them, but on the whole, the ones seemingly most determined to get a move are the very ones who got us relegated. We could force them to stay, but IMO it’s very much in our interests for Pereryra, Deeney and a few others to go. We need to remove the very attitude and complacency which took us down in the first place. Those games against Everton, Palace, Burnley, Southampton and West Ham which we’re all spurned chances to save our club will live long in the memory for the way our team betrayed our club with their performances. Deeney certainly does not deserve to play at a higher level, but I don’t want him playing for us as his punishment as it punishes us too. Same with half arsed Bobby P. If we can offload Femenia, Dawson and one or two others and use it to build a more driven and combative team, then good. My biggest issue is that I can see us selling the better players from our want aways, being stuck with the worst and not getting the new blood we need. That is my concern. I’m certainly not hoping to see Deeney and Pereyra start on Saturday.
This really is crucial to our hopes. There are going to be players who have no takers. Will those left get their heads down once the window closes or will they sulk and just be highly paid passengers?
I imagine some of them will nobly agree to play for us until the January window opens, at which point I'm afraid it'll be tools down again.
I am no great lover of Femenia as I think he is a pretty dreadful defender, but at least he actually played for us when needed him the other night and is acting as though he is a Watford player on social media. More than can be said for quite a few in the squad.
I’ve already got some dynamite stuff drafted. Working on the post Luton loss meltdown material now as it’s difficult to keep escalating this stuff.
I had some great stuff prepared for the final whistle on Tuesday night, had to scrap it when that **** Sema equalised in the last minute We go again
I try to remain positive, too positive for some but if that happens I'm going in to full Nath like rant mode
If I was 30+ years old, trying to come back from injury, knew that my best playing days were behind me and I was on £50,000 a week I would guess it was highly unlikely anybody would want to sign me on a similar or better contract. I would probably then think I'm going to see this contract out as I need to save and plan for my future, non-playing life. I've been training to professional levels all my adult life and it is getting increasingly hard and boring and unrewarding. So maybe, not necessarily consciously, I will let my standards slip.
The way that Femenia has committed himself on the pitch has, for my money, never been questioned. The fact that he is a poor defender has, I think, suggested to some folk that he doesn't care.
I fear it will be the latter...they will self-justify by persuading themselves the club insidiously undermined any chances of a move.
If we go into this game with the same squad as last weekend, this could be a rude awakening. Chalobah and Quina have both been so poor in the opening two games, and although Cleverley played well last weekend, that midfield three is far too lightweight and not dynamic enough. Luongo, Brown and Bannan looks like a decent three for them in the centre. Have been really disappointed by Wilmot so far. Looks rash, not very strong in the air and his left foot isn't good enough to play on the left side of the three. If Dawson has recovered from illness, I'd put Cathcart on the left, Kabasele in the middle and Dawson on the right. Could see Dawson getting on the end of a King Ken corner as being one of our best chances of scoring.
When's the press conference? If no-one is back then it'll be hard to see this season working out well. If Vlad says that Suarez, Capoue, and even Dawson are in the squad then HMS PisstheLeague sets sail again.
Great chance to boost our goal difference. We’re going to smash the ****. Look behind HMS Piss The League now it’s in full flow, and you’ll see little clubs like Wednesday demolished in our wake.
I think that melt down will be nothing compared to the meltdown when we lose to that lot up the road with Sinclair and Navarro in the side. usually I avoid the forum for a few days after a loss but Im bringing popcorn for that
I’d give Deeney, Welbeck, Suarez, Cucho, Sarr, Peneranda, Success, Pereyra, Capoue, Hughes, Guaye, Estupinan, GD, Success and Dawson a breather for this one. Save their legs for the Premier League.
