It's very useful for people who work in the news industry and have to say/type it a lot, given its brevity when compared to the original 'press conference'.

What’s wrong with “conference” then? It would be obvious to what this was referring - football managers don’t get involved in any other sort of conferences - and it has the merit of being a proper word.

“Pearson’s pre-match conference” sounds fine to me.

In any event, is it really that onerous to say/write two words instead of one? I can see some need for it on Twitter, perhaps, but not really anywhere else.

If we must, then I think “presscon” sounds better.

Well every industry develops their own shorthand in language, that's just how it goes and went, and 'conference' is both still obviously longer and also has a double meaning; news-speak is all about clarity and using terms and phrases with ambibiguity/double-meaning is a no-no. 'Presser' is clear in what it represents.

In this precise case, I don't really see the need for it, because they're writing it out once for the title of a Watford Youtube video, and whoever is responsible for the socials of Watford football club isn't really in the news industry, but generally 'Presser' is a useful term and that's what I'm arguing for.

(Yes, it can be that onerous to say/write two words instead of one if you have having to do it constantly, in the same way as any other abbreviation or shortening that gets used regularly.)

We managed perfectly well up until recently without having to make up this word.

Anyway, I still prefer “presscon”. At least that captures the abbreviation better.

Speaking of which, didn't Chelsea fan's invent the term "Sarri Ball?" when he was their manager? Maybe we could do something for us along those lines.

    Pears Ball? P Ball?

Well, I disagree, but obviously that is both my right and yours. I also personally find 'presser' useful.

Given Doucoure played as the advanced CM (No.10) in the last game, I’d be amazed if Chalobah replaced him. Unless that means pushing Hughes further forward but that would be ignorant to the fact he’s been our best player in the last 2 games and looked finally like the player we expected him to be.

Has to be Quina or Pereyra.

Pereyra doesn't do cold and wet. He likes his gloves and snood that he can waltz into training with trying to sneak past Pearson,

Out of the two I would prefer Quina, but he hasn't had much game time. Maybe one first half then swap at HT?

It's a press conference. A presser is an advanced player without the ball or a robust, northern, ex-politician with egg all over him.

Thanks. Isn't the point re. Hughes about playing him in the middle rather than on the wing? He's performed very well in a central more defensive role recently but there's no reason to suggest he can't do well in a more advanced, central role too.

I believe he was bought as a 'playmaker'. So I have confidence that he can step up to that as well as remaining 'snappy'. It looks like Pearson has similar confidence and this might very well be Hughes' best role of all.

Hopefully Big Nige has been in Chalobah's ear telling him that if he wants to continue as a professional footballer he's going to have to get over his injury demons and actually run around a bit and get stuck in. He's been awful almost every time he's played since coming back from injury, feels like last chance saloon for his career is rapidly approaching.

I think so, he can't influence the game as much on the wing so I think whether deeper or advanced, I'm comfortable with him in the centre.

With Chalobah, he really needs a run of games so last season he should have gone on a 3 month loan.

Big game for Chalobah. If he remembers to pass to players in a yellow shirt, that will be an improvement

Good side - same for the past three games now. Consistency being key. Please don't bring on Success late on, if you have to make an
offensive change, bring on Gray. You may was well have a training cone out as Success.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to score points - it was clear when Doucs came off on Sunday, he was trying Chalobah in that formation with a view for today.

Chalobah has a lot to prove today. If he doesn’t run and get stuck in, then I can see him being pulled off at HT. Hughes will drop into the middle and either Quina or Pereyra will come on.

Get John Barnes in to do the punditry from a Watford angle, and what does he do, shoehorn Liverpool in to the conversation as soon as he can.

  30. At least the training cone wouldn't keep giving the ball away.

For future reference. Have my own booth in Walkabout. £7.99 for a half decent bottle of white wine. Sound full on although they're showing three matches.

    Very good indeed.
