Reasons To Be Cheerful About The Championship

Newcastle must be pretty grim to follow these days, do nothing in the PL or even the cups, and even when they do go down, promotion is non-negotiable and can't even really be enjoyed. Would I have taken being a Burnley? Probably, no cup runs, but they have made Europe and have been promoted twice in recent years (including a title which I'd dearly love for us to have one day)

    I think that's a bit far.

He hasn't quite set the league on fire but in an injury hit first season (playing in a shocking team) he has been pretty much our only threat.

On my Kodi box every championship game is shown live as it's on TV in some country. Commentary is **** & so are the camera men - never up with play way off the likes of BT & Sky

  4. Sure teams go up and down. But our turn this year was avoidable.

  5. Didn’t the champ televise all midweek games this year? I recall champ games on the red button

Yes which I thought was good. But they are in standard definition, one camera angle and no commentary. It is peculiar and a tough watch.

  8. I’ve enjoyed most of the PL, I’ve hated the City games (its a mental weakness thing) and I’ve hated this season, but I wouldn’t have traded previous seasons and the victories over Arsenal, Utd, or Spuds etc for the world. I’ve loved experiencing the Vic packed to the rafters and rocking... that isn’t going to happen again any day soon. I will miss the PL.

I'd take that if it means we don't have to hear about how Troy Deneey is our main threat! ;)

Ha! I'm sure a Sky pundit mentioned our threat from set pieces the other day...

If anything the pundits in the Championship are a bit more knowledgeable on the teams they are talking about.

All relegation's are avoidable. Norwich could have stayed up if they had spent money. The fact is we can't afford to keep up with pretty much the rest of the league. That's not to say I think we've done things correctly by any means but we are limited in what we can buy. Everybody said we badly needed better defenders but we've conceded 2 goals more than last season!

Yeah, the Prem is all about selling it to fans of the big teams, bottom 14 be damned. There'll still be 'big' teams hanging around in the Championship next season, but Championship coverage is much better
2 more goals with a game against Arsenal to come...

Annoying as it's not like there aren't multiple people commentating for each club or local radio

They spent 27 years in the top flight before all that business with League 1 and -10 points and apart from that have always seemed a well run club, like a richer man's Watford who used to be in the old second division at best until 1966 but have grown since then. I think Southampton are a bigger club than many people think, a perception coloured by the fact that they used to play at the Dell which was small even by top flight standards back then, and in the 1990s and 2000s they were more often seen fighting at the bottom (like Coventry) than at the top.

I will miss it too, but i'd say it's easy to remember things as better than they were. Every season before this one was - play quite well, drop off at Christmas, scrap a win or two and then lose every game miserably before limping to a lower mid-table position. The wins against the top sides were great, but even with your point about the fans, dunno if it's just where I sit, it'd be noticeably busier for the big games with men on their own who clearly didn't support Watford.

  16. The wrong type of fan....

Lets wait a while and I'm sure we can get onto that old chestnut about plastic supporters and then the forum can have an argument over who is more loyal than who and how my dad followed watford in 1821....

Not watching our shirkers embarrassingly bend over and give Man City +10 or so on their goal difference every season is definitely one.

I would rather us watch that and still be in the Prem, than be in the championship. Zero enjoyment in that league. You just know the scum will do the doable over us. We’re going to lose to some tinpot team like Rotherham, Wycombe, Barnsley. We always struggle against Preston.

It’s going to be a horrible being back in the championship.

Don't get me wrong, as a fan I definitely do not want us to go down and I'm livid that we are, but if we were to go and have a blistering, promotion winning season with a fresh, exciting, young squad and came back up in a better position, then I probably wouldn't be too sad.

Unfortunately that's just the dream, not the likely reality.

Nope! Hate the championship. I can only remember our years in the Prem which is when football actually started. The championship I have erased from my memory. A part from the Brighton game...I smirked.

You must be joking. That squad got smashed in the Premier League. Henderson was useless in the higher league. And you did not mention the best player Ashley Young. Jordan Stewart, Gavin Mahon, Mattie Spring. Good grief and we complain about Ginos recruitment.
