A kind offer I'm sure but do you have a thermal vest, mittens and a fleece or two for the poor girl? She makes Jamie Moralee look flabby by comparison, in her outfit!

I'd imagine Brentford are more likely than us. Ideal club to take your first job in England at - introducing a new structure so likely to have patience while they perfect it, London club with a new stadium planned.

Yeah but , Squibba, Quique Flores is actually going out with her.....in actual real life....rather than just spunxing over a picture of her in the knicker section of the Freemans catalogue.

I'm not going to pretend I know much about the guy as I don't tend to follow Spanish Football.

Has someone got a youtube video that they could post on him so I could judge him before he arrives?

I'm putting it out there, I'm excited by this appointment if it happens. In three years the club has come such a long way, I think getting a coach with a CV like Flores' shows that the club is ready to move to another level. Really excited to see what the transfer window brings now!

Pozzos love their foreigners in their expensive suits, don't they? This guy will be the most suave we've ever had.

When trying to assess a Head Coach, I often like to look at what the team they took over were doing prior to the appointment, to see how they improved or not as the case may be! So when people had a little laugh about one of Joka's titles coming in Thailand, I felt it was a good achievement because his team hadn't won their league for a few seasons previous, so he had really improved them.

    So..Flores..

Getafe had just been promoted when he took over, so it's hard to apply this criteria. However, his 13th place was considered a decent achievement, and it's the nearest comparirison we have to the situation he'll find himself in if he joins us.

Valencia had finished 7th the season before he took over (he was 2nd choice to Laudrup, who turned them down) , so coming 3rd then 4th was a sign of improvement.

Atletico had finished 4th the season before he took over, so 9th was a step backwards, although he didn't arrive until October when they were struggling, and of course they won the Europa League (though critics might say they only had a chance to win that trophy after failing badly in the Champions League!)

Benfica had come 4th the season before he took over, so 3rd was an improvement, although it meant failing to qualify for the Champions League, usually a gimme for them. They won the league the following season, so maybe he put the foundations in place for that.

In the UAE, his club had won the league the two previous seasons before he joined, and won it again the season after he left, but had a poor season with him in charge. Make of that what you will.

Like Joka when he joined us, there have been a few gaps in his CV. He had 9 months out the game before returning to Getafe this year, and has been without a club since resigning there in February.

He's had a few fall-outs, to put it mildly. He had an ongoing feud with his Sporting Director at Valencia, with top player Diego Forlan at Atletico and with the board of Getafe earlier this year. Things might not be so peaceful if he joins us!

Among the impressive names of players he's coached are..Sergio Aguero, David Silva, David de Gea, Diego Forlan, Diego Costa, David Villa, Fernando Morientes, Fabio Aurelio (who went on to Liverpool), Angel Di Maria, Asamoah Gyan and David Luis.

So, based purely on that CV, I'd say an experienced coach who has achieved some success in his career and coached some of the biggest names in world football, many of whom are now playing in our Premier League. My reservations about that CV would be the gaps and the fact you could argue he 'peaked' 4 or 5 years ago with Valencia, followed by his cups success with Atletico, followed by lesser spells in Portugal and the UAE. He apparently lost out to Paul Lambert for the Villa job 2 years ago, and has been linked in the press with a few other vacancies here. He's not prone to a falling out or two, and may be a less humble and more controversial coach than Joka.

    Thoughts?

Couldn't agree more :) I've read all that has been written today. My thoughts personally are that if SJ goes he goes. We know the Pozzos will bring in someone better. What's the old saying "There's no use in crying over spilt milk"
We move on together as supporters and more importantly as a team. The dark days of 2011/2012 are now a long way behind us and this manager change will be for the good of the club also. Lets get behind the new man because at the end of the day WE ARE ALL YELLOW :)

So in 4 years we've gone from being owned by an ex-bankrupt who called in the police after being refused the keys to the club's safe to being on the verge of appointing a Head Coach who has managed in the Champions League and won the Europa, coaching the likes of Di Maria, Aguero, Diego Costa and David Silva along the way.

We've moved on from signing the likes of David Mirfin, Prince Buaben and Mark Yeates (no disrepect intended) to being regularly linked in the press with £5 million signings.

All very exciting, although my only regret is that some good footballing people, Dyche, McKinlay and most like Jokanovic have apparently been rather trodden over along the way.

That doesn't always sit easy with me I'm afraid, but I'm not a hypocritic..I'll be as excited as the next supporter will come 3 weeks tomorrow.

There are not many managers in the Premier who have won a European cup. To my knowledge it's only the top 4 clubs. We would be extremely lucky to get this fella. Just shows you where our club is going :jumping1:

Champions League winning managers currently in the PL...Jose, Van Gaal.

UEFA Cup/Europa League...Jose and Advocaat (assuming he stays at Sunderland).

So, if we appoint either of our first two choices, Flores or Di Matteo, we'd be joining that select list!!!

Decent assessment Malts, but a little on the negative side if, I may say.

I feel it would be worth mentioning that

•Athletico were 2 bottom when he took over in Oct and so finishing 9th is a decent season. However finishing 7th the following season is genuinely seen as a poor season, as he had a whole season in charge. However there are Athletico fans who feel Quique laid many of the foundations that Simeone has since thrived upon.

    • Athleticos victory in the Europa League was their first European trophy in almost 50 years. On the way they beat Galatasaray, Liverpool, Valencia and er Fulham. Yes, many of the wins were on away goals but many trophies are won that way, some of them by penalties which is even more marginal.

    • Athletico beat Inter Milan ( then CL holders) in the UEFA Super Cup

    • Atheltico were runners up in Coppa Del Reye (ie FA Cup)

    • Took Valencia to CL quarter finals

    • Won domestic League cup with Benfica.

    • His record in UAE is rather underwhelming . He didnt win a title just cups, but I understand the reason he went out there was because he would be coaching in English, which seems to reveal how he has viewed an EPL job as his long term future

So it seems, he is a reasonably successful manager at big European clubs who arent quite the top echelon ( ie Real, Barca, Man U, Bayern etc) but might be comparable to say Tottenham, Liverpool , Arsenal in the EPL.

Now, for any of those clubs ( Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool) to qualify for CL, win a Euro trophy or reach and/or win a domestic cup final, that would be seen as a successful season. For instance if Pocchetini qualified for CL, let alone win a domestic cup or Europa League, he would be seen as a big success.

I feel Quique Flores is in that category . Of course his career has tailed in recent years, otherwise hed still be at a major club. But to have a manager with his pedigree, is a real testament to how Gino is increasing our credibilty on the European stage.

Im sad that Joka going, and the manner it has happened grates with me a little, but the bottom line is Gino is doing this because he feels this is the best way to to take the club forward, and he has to be commended for that.

His CV doesn't seem outstanding to me, but I'm sure Gino know more about him and the potential other candidates than any of us. I mean, was Slavisa Jokanovic an appointment that had the forum raving? Optimistically speaking, I think this will be a good appointment purely for name value that will hopefully attract players that we wouldn't get under Slav due to reputation (and because Gino's hiring him)

Looking at his Wikipedia pages it seems his win ratios are rather good. The more I investigate, (and thanks Malteser for most of my homework), the more I'm liking this bloke. When will an announcement be made?

We just need to get behind him.

The Pozzos are the key element to success - more important than Slav, Deeney and Vydra and we need to trust them to do right thing. Why would they jeopardise the money that the premiership gives?

If Slav was key he would have signed. He did not so let's move on and get behind the new guy
