I dont think anyone wants Joker to leave ,I certainly dont, but unfortunately its looking very likely he will do.

To be linked with, Quique, a young manager who has managed 3 of the biggest clubs in European football is pretty amazing.

Remembering how poor Jokers CV was 9 months ago, being linked with Quique is a sharp reminder of how much Gino is increasing our credentials to potential candidates on the world stage.

May I refer my honourable friend to page 52 of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

    Regarding the Babel fish;

'Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.

'The argument goes something like this;"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, " for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

"But" says Man,"the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore,by your own arguments, you don't.QED"

"Oh dear",says God,"I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

"Oh that was easy," says Man,and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

And Jokanovic was an obscure choice who had only succeeded in Serbia and Thailand before failing to make a mark in Bulgaria or the Spanish third division.

But there is more to it than that. I'm going to trust that the Pozzos pick their coaches based on more than a skim read of a Wikipedia article.

No I just said that a Head Coach change isn't nearly as damaging as a lot of people think, because of the structure we have. Some have talked of this squandering our big chance in the Premier League. That's wrong.

I am very sorry if you misread my tenor.

I trust that too. I'm sure he has a good reputation on the international circuit. But I also believe my observation to be fair.

Exactly, Koeman and Pochettino's wikipedia pages would have made terrifying readings prior to them coming and taking the PL by storm. Koeman nearly took Flores's side down, the same team which he achieved 3rd and 4th with. A Europa League win, two Champions League placed finishes in Spain and we're writing this guy off? Wow.

...and UEFA Super Cup win against Inter Milan ( then CL holders), Portugese Cup Winnner and Copa Del Rey Runners Up.

Hes won more trophies in 10 years of management than our club has won in 130 years of existence.

  10. Even now, my gut feeling is that we should stick with Joka, of course as long as he isn't asking a ridiculous amount of money, but we don't know if he is, he's done well, I still think changing the manager again would be a mistake (Norwich and Bournemouth will be keeping theirs, and I personally think it has it's advantages), whatever names are being bandied about.

The problem with a human, is that we'd have to account for a big margin for error, and other stupid human problems like "being away from the family".

It'd make more sense to employ a drone coach. 99.9% tactical accuracy, flawless squad rotation based on fitness algorithms and mastery of every language. The Pozzos are innovators, let's make this happen.

it's not a change for changes sake though is it (If he doesn't stay). The only ever time we appeared to do that was with BM. Obviously as i've said previously I'd like Joka to stay but it appears he wants more than the club are prepared to offer. For that reason I back our owners to find us an adequate replacement. Would be nice if it could just be resolved either way.

Flores must have a good agent. He's now being linked to the vacant jobs at Newcastle and West Ham too!

Completely agreed. I had actually been thinking this myself for a while but was afraid to post regarding it. It's good to see someone else out there with an interest in drone/cyborg tech, and it's potential uses in football. Cyborg refs in particular have long been something I've wished to see implemented, or at the very least, considered.

Even if we get Flores in, it would be worth considering this type of thing as a solution to future, unforeseen events.

Which sort of model would you prefer? If we're going to go with the cheapest option we could do a lot worse than this to start off with -

Fair enough again. Apologies. I was well pished by then having started early. TVOR's betting odds post on the Joka thread concerning various numpties and has beens that he would be perfectly happy to accept as our new head coach had really pissed me off and I can assure you there are places in this town where you can start very early indeed!

But on the Pozzo model and the role of the head coach within it I'll say this. The model whereby the head coach has less responsibility for player recruitment, a very specific and lesser role within the club hierarchy and is less well remunerated and has a shorter contract than at other clubs is all well and good. But if you then extend that to say that a change of head coach is entirely seamless and has no affect then you're 'avin a larff. So Hornet23 #152, I do indeed remember last season and what I saw was this:

When Beppe left right at the beginning of September we were W4, L1 and second in the table. Then there was the crazy 'four managers in a month' fiasco followed by the recovery period when we were essentially treading water at best. It wasn't until the Joka had identified all the problems, got his native English speaking coach (Dean Austin) onboard, nailed his colours to the mast early in the new year, had his purge and demanded 100% effort and loyalty from his squad that we were able to kick on. So that was a four month (nearly half a season) hiatus and only one month of it was when we really were a basket case.

Troy has been fairly dismissive of it all - the players just got on with their job - but quite obviously it had a detrimental affect. Imagine a different scenario. The Joka had been appointed towards the end of the previous season - not in time enough to get us promoted but time enough to have gained the full respect of the players in regard to his coaching methods, man management and tactical acumen. Then he has a pre-season and off we go. How do you think last season would have panned out then? I reckon we'd have been Champions in March!

So, if we do make a new appointment he'll hopefully get a full pre-season too. But continuity certainly has its advantages.

Just whilst people are throwing names into the speculation hat, here's another one...

According to a local journalist at Elche, their head coach Fran Escriba has an offer from an unnamed English club. Who's Fran Escriba, I hear you ask? He got Elche promoted to La Liga for the first time in twenty something years, kept them up in their first season and finished 13th in their second season. Funnily enough, he was Quique Flores' assistant at Getafe, Valencia, Benfica and Atletico before striking out on his own. He's been too successful to come back as QF's assistant but bearing in mind he got a small provincial team promoted, kept them up first season then finished mid-table second - it makes me wonder if we might be the English club that may have spoken to him?

I pray and hope that Joka and the Pozzos can come to an agreement, but if not, then there's a few good names out there who either are or will soon be unemployed and I wouldn't mind taking a chance on...
