Can a Spanish speaker translate this please? I would love to know why he was laughing so much he couldn't finish an interview.

At 0.58 I believe Flores says "I can't dance!" He then says he has something, but what that something is, I couldn't understand it.

Also couldn't understand the journalist's question at 1.04 was. Sorry!

Afraid I'm not a native Spanish speaker but spent a lot of time over there - please correct if I'm wrong! There's nothing said in the interview that he's laughing at specifically - he only really says that he can't and couldn't stop (laughing). It's before a game with Getafe (who he managed before) and he's asked how different it will be talking to his players at Getafe but he's already lost his composure by then. Quickly googled it and apparently someone did an impression of a regular journalist who was absent the week before - this interview is one where the reporter is back but Quique can't take him seriously!

I still can't believe we're this close to signing this fella.

It only seems like yesterday that I was reading World Soccer Magazine(is it still going?), who were raving about how well he'd done after taking over from the underwhelming Ranieri. They took a punt on a guy who had managed to get Getafe up(and then proceeded to keep them up quite comfortably).

In one way the risk that Valencia took when appointing Flores was bigger than the risk United took when appointing Moyes. Flores had only had one season in La Liga, with a team who had just got promoted, whereas Moyes had plenty of Premier League experience.

For Flores to make that big of a jump, and then secure two consecutive seasons of Champions League football, was brilliant. Add to that the fact he reach a Champions League QF.

It's safe to say I'm very much looking forward to this guy signing with us!

I have yet to see anything that makes this guy a better bet where we are right now than the Joka. Change for change's sake.

His girlfriend's quite cute. Not enough meat on the bone though.

Who knows what Slav could have done next season but come on, this guy's CV is far more impressive. I know you're upset about Jokanovic but even you can see that. He's already shown he can get a newly promoted side a mid-table finish, we'd be ecstatic with that next season.

I don't know why, as the guy seems to have a good CV, however I am not overwhelmed with his possible appointment.

I'm in the camp of better the devil you know, but if Joka and the club cannot find a mutual agreement, then it's looking more like this guy might be our manager very soon.

Therefore I can only refer you to my long standing "Signature" below VVVVVV

The Joka had built the necessary 'camaraderie'. Everyone singing from the same hymn sheet.

If we do indeed now get Kinky Flower he may have a wealth of experience but he'll also be a mercenary. Who can say how that will pan out?

The point you make yourself, quite inadvertently, is you have seen nothing - as opposed yet to see anything on this new prospect. The reasons you have made elsewhere are reasonable ones for keeping Joka but short of giving him a juvenile nick name you don't (rather can't) have anything to say in the negative of Flores. Like it or not the Pozzos know more than you in running a football club. They know Joka better than you, they know Flores better; they therefore ought know who is a better fit for the immediate future more than you.

As for me, regardless of what I think, what am I going to do about it if I don't like it? Suggest you just go with the flow..as I see no alternative.

No intention to be negative in my appraisal. I was just stating the facts, as I saw them. It's up to others to interpret them!

I did post the link to an excellent article which praised Flores and the way he improves players.

Of the two CVs, Flores has the stronger. Both decent managers, but Flores has competed well at a far higher level.

I wouldn't mind Joka at all, but taking a Championship side up who were joint top after a quarter of the season should have been pretty much par for the course, especially given the players at his disposal - and I just didn't like the reactive 'feeling his way' (his words) into games. This approach was fine in the Championship where you could pretty much rely on opposition strikers missing more than they score - but I can't see Premier standard strikers giving him the luxury of time to do that. How do you feel your way into a game from 3-0 down?

If it was a straight choice between the two (only Joka had just taken another Championship side up instead of Watford - so no loyalty issues), I'd go with Flores.

Naturally my heart says I would be sad to see Joka go. But, I thought I'd just put a few things out there for consideration:

Everyone congratulates SJ for his bold tactical change early on in the Brighton game (and indeed for other tactical decisions mid-game during his tenure) but you could easily turn this on its head and say, with the Brighton example in mind, that a better manager would have foreseen the problems that Brighton (a VERY average championship team), might cause us, and therefore set us up correctly in the first place. (Had we been bottom of the table and the same thing had happened, fans would have been calling him a clueless clown who doesn't know what he is doing and asking what sort of manager ever makes a substitution that early).

Granted we had a fantastic run under SJ from Jan onwards but we scraped past a lot of teams by the odd goal here or there and had to rely on some fantastic goalkeeping, quite a few last minute winners and a few terrible misses from opposition in order to get 3 points from ALOT of games.

Of course the last minute winners point to a great team spirit and perhaps this was instilled by the manager, or you could argue this team spirit was instilled by the 'us and them' ('them' being management) mentality of the squad that Troy alluded to in a recent interview. There is only one thing that remained constant last season and that was the core of the squad. Perhaps this in itself galvanised them and brought some togetherness.

No doubting SJ has some good management skills but it's very easy to get carried away with the promotion, and concentrating on the positives and ignoring any negatives.

Perhaps another manager would have seen us steamroll a lot more of the opposition than we actually did. Perhaps with the ability that we have in our squad we really should have been making things a lot easier for ourself. One things for sure, we can't rely on Gomes heroics, opposition fluffs or last minute winners to stay up in the prem.

Clearly, the Pozzos don't want to give SJ a long contract because they know if we are bottom in October they will sack him. SJ also knows that hence the demand for a longer contract!! The Pozzos can't fully trust SJ to deliver in the long term and no doubt Flores, as a new manager in place, is happy with an initial 12 month contract offer. On paper Flores has the credentials to offer as much as SJ can, if not more, and (presuming only a short term contract is offered) comes with no greater financial risk than the offer on the table for SJ.

With everything in mind, for me I think it's a no brainer for the Pozzo's.

Just to add, if SJ goes then I don't think it's disgraceful or harsh on SJ at all. He was happy with a short term contract in the first place. He is unproven at the level we are now at, and I can see why the Pozzos are reluctant to give gim what he wants.

It's just a stalemate, nothing more, nothing less. Both parties will move on and I trust the Pozzos to get it right in the long term.

All that is very fair Lionel Fessi. The thing is though, all this potential negativity around the Joka has only materialised since it's become unclear if he's staying or not. After Brighton and in Cassiobury Park he was the very best thing since sliced bread. And precisely nothing has changed concerning his performance last season since then.

I totally agree but as I alluded to in my post it's very easy to get carried along on the crest of a wave, and in doing so ignoring any potential negatives. Indeed I would not have written/thought any of the above were we not in this position!

I would like nothing more than SJ and Pozzos to sort it out and reach a compromise and then to see what SJ can do for us in the prem but i also respect the Pozzos decisions and trust them to get it right on the long term.

I don't think there's a single person who (so far) has said they want him to go. But in a battle for fan loyalty between Pozzo and Jokanovic there's a clear winner and it ain't Slav. I think that's what you're observing here. People who have accepted long ago that the head coach role is a merri-go-round sitting along for the ride rather than trying to go against it.

  26. Malteser

Old habits die hard I guess. Those of us of a certain age remember an age when the manager ruled supreme..they made all the decisions and were therefore just about the most important member of the footballing staff.

For better or worse, the Pozzos have revolutionised the way this side of things is now run. The man formerly known as the manager now just coaches whatever group of players the club presents to him. Because of that, they're not so important as they would have been in the past, and therefore they're far more disposable and interchangable.

Our critics can't seem to grasp this, and thus like to portray us as a trigger-happy club (Alvin Martin on Talk last night, for example), I must admit it's taken me 3 years to get used to it (I like continuity myself), but it's done us no harm so far and the signs are it'll keep happening over the next few years. The ride continues!

We're on the same side here Kels, but it's so hard to predict anything. Zola was one goal away from having the same effect as Joka actually managed, yet his second season was a miserable failure. Of course had we gone up in his first season, he may have thrived in the Prem and we wouldn't have suffered the negative effects we did of not going up..so it's not a 100% fair comparison I admit, but you get my drift.

I want us to stay up next season. To me, to do that you have to give yourself every advantage you can. To my old-fashioned way of thinking, getting rid of the head Coach that took you up in the first place isn't condusive to giving you an advantage, otherwise every promoted club might have tried it! But the Pozzos are starting to make me think outside the box and outside my comfort blanket a bit, and they get one thinking that maybe there is method to the madness.

What is going on? We haven't had a manager in ages. Last season we would have had 2 or 3 managers in that space of time.

Evening all. Still no firm news then.

I've only briefly caught up with the last dozen or so comments and the arguments for and against a new coach - apologies if I'm repeating what's already been said.

I'd personally prefer Joka to stay and hope a solution is found, not least because if we as fans struggle to get our heads round the concept of a disposable coach, what must it be doing to the players? I admire the Pozzo's immensely, but expecting footballers to act like dehumanised robots and adapt to a new boss as frequently as they have will eventually take its toll. No-one likes uncertainty in the workplace and most of us thrive when we're confident of our position in the firm, not having to constantly prove ourselves to a new boss.

In my view the Pozzo's need to re-assess how they manage situations like this and deal with it well in advance behind metaphorical closed doors. The mounting speculation is rapidly making us look like a car-crash of a club.
