Oh he really hates Sporting and he wants to make sure that they hate him back. If he does well, he'll turn into the Portuguese league equivalent of Sol Campbell
Adam Leventhal saying that we'll be doing more business before 11pm tomorrow and that Sinclair isn't a priority. His sky sources seem to be WD Sport.
You'd think but he always pops up with a tweet within an hour of WD releasing some info saying pretty much the same thing. They could have the same source I guess but it's a bit odd.
Jordan Rhodes falls through.. His goal-scoring record is fantastic, £9 million isn't really a lot, Afobe's scored 2 in 3 for Bournemouth. Rhodes probably won't mind coming off the bench to start with, let him working on upper body strength and then if Ighalo goes in the summer we could have a good, ready made goal scorer on our hands in Rhodes. 15 goals and we could double our money the next season.
Can't argue with his goal record but I can't help think there's a reason why Premier League clubs haven't come knocking for him. He isn't particularly quick or strong which may be a reason, especially as a lot of teams play with one up top. Could he do the job Ighalo does in battling with defenders and manufacturing his own chances and would the club pay that much money for a British Championship player when they wouldn't go above £10m for Townsend? I would say no to both.
I agree there may be a reason or it may be out of fear he will fail. Personally, Ighalo didn't demonstrate any real strength or real speed last season either, it's only this season where he's shown he's actually deceptively strong. I'd hope Rhodes could do the same.
I have the same feeling with Rhodes as I do about McCormack and it's the same feeling you have about Rhodes H23. The details of his recently-fallen-through move to Boro have been leaked and the wages he asked from Boro are purely ridiculous. Even though we'd have the money to pay those, I really doubt we'd pay them
Didn't think it warranted its own thread but some guy on twitter (hector fernandez) who has 44k followers said us and Liverpool want real madrids denis cheryshev
If we were going for a right back, I'd love us to try a bid for Pedro Pereira. Young, can tackle, cross, is rapid and potentially will be world class.
Leventhal said we're interested in a striker. I did think it was going to be either him or McCormack seeing as we do need to boost the homegrown numbers and there's no other good homegrown strikers in the Championship left (excluding Gray because he won't be leaving Burnley in a hurry)
Not sure Rhodes represents a good deal for the money being mentioned for his Boro deal but it isn't my money I guess!
Tom Bradshaw or Romaine Sawyers anyone? Both HG, both in their mid 20s. Would be a step up from league 1 tho..
Oxlade-Chamberlain heading out on loan, probably to Southampton, if Arsenal get the winger they want in. Wouldn't mind a bit of the Ox at the Vic.
Keisuke Honda was intended to be shown as the best of Watford player. He wanted as Johnson Richard. Important ball for Watford!
As with Oxlade-Chamberlain, you'd expect both the fee and the wages to be far beyond what Pozzo and Duxbury would see as good value. An occassional England international playing semi-regularly for a Champions League team is going to set you back £15mil plus probably £60k+ wages. I'd be astounded if he's believed to be the best option available. Thinking about it, for that sort of money we would probably have more than half a chance of signing Nathan Ake, and I know who I'd prefer.
I think Gibbs is a lot more realistic than Oxlade-Chamberlain. What kind of level club does Gibbs think he can play for?
Don't think the fee would be too high. Maybe around £6 million. Wages would probably be quite high, but it's just a suggestion innit.
Presumably a pretty high level, given that he's played over 200 games for Arsenal and even played four times for England last year. I'd eat my proverbial hat if anyone managed to sign Gibbs for £6m. If he was available for that (which I can't imagine he would be), he'd be a target for traditionally bigger clubs than us, who would pay a lot more than us. Could see him going to Everton as a long-term replacement for Baines.
You'd choose Garbutt, with 10 appearances for Everton at the age of 22 (4 in the PL), over someone with 200+ games for a team that finishes in the top four every season? Garbutt is hardly setting the ground alight on loan at Fulham this season either.
Fair play for admitting you can't explain it. That saves me from spending a long time disagreeing with you! For me, he'd be a more than solid choice for a mid-table team which wants to push up the table, which is where I think Everton currently are. Swansea, Newcastle and Palace are the three teams he's currently linked to, which I think backs up my opinion.
Bryan Oviedo would most likely be first choice ahead along with Brendon Galloway who has played most of the season. Think they are fairly well covered there! In fact, they can have Gibbs and we could take Galloway and bring him back to the home counties (started at MK Dons and developed by our head of youth).
What you have to factor in with Gibbs, Oxlade-Chamberlain - in fact any British player from Arsenal, is the extra £millions you spend on physiotherapists and equipping a specialist recovery suite for all the soft tissue injuries. Even if they signed on a free I would have a dentist check their teeth
Sounds like classic "muscle imbalance" - I'm sure we have the guys with experience of dealing with that !
