Depends if you think it suspicious ... I don't
I've always considered Sannino to be just a caretaker. However Garcia's resignation had nothing to do with us but maybe with Leeds ... we just gave him a better option!

I'm very happy with this appointment. Never liked Sannino and I'm sure the results would have tailed off, with the unrest at his methods getting worse. I don't blindly follow the Pozzo's but I do believe they know what they are doing unlike other previous owners / chairman. If anything, Sannino should have gone at the end of the season. Anyway, I like Garcia, and I am sure he will do well with the Squad that he has at his disposal.

I think it perfect timing for a head coach ... The Pozzos will have had a short list of targets and Sannino was always going to be in place until one of them became available.
Nothing wrong with Saninno though, he's a good manager even if he's a little too 'old school' for us.

When Emile first touch goes thirty yards the Australians thinks thats tight control because the sheer size of Australia has altered their sense of spacial relativity....or something

regarding the style of football issue, you'd have to think that the Pozzos will not let a manager get away with playing boring defensive football.

    This.

They make much money by getting other clubs and the media excited about their players.

Let me just set you straight on a few things.

How can finishing in the Play Offs twice on the trot been seen as "gradually get worse every year"? We have been in the Championship for 3 years and finished in the Play Offs twice, not to shabby. Yes, some of our deluded fans do think we have a divine right to be in the EPL but not all of us, after all, we all have them deluded fans, I'm sure you got a few on here!

Some don't like Gus because he called up our Chairman two days before our Game with Palace (17 Mar 2013) and wanted to go to Reading but we would not let him go till the end of the season. He then turned up 45 mins before the Play Off game against Palace and basically didn't want to be there and what he said after the game showed he had no intention of being with us. Oh yea lets not forget that he claimed we sacked him live of TV. He was always touting himself for a big job like Leeds, yes Leeds which is funny in itself. I personally loved Gus for what he done for us, putting us back on the football map and i do actually look for how Sunderland/Poyet has done.

As for Garcia the only bit of emotion we saw of him through out his rein with us was on the final whistle of the Last game against Forest and we were confirmed a place in the Play Offs. You will notice when you watch his interviews he does not give anything away and says basically the same thing with the same look on his face like he as been slapped with a wet fish. You obviously cant judge someone's coaching abilities on their interviews. His formation for us was 4 3 3 with 1 up front and the ball was passed backwards and sideways and generally bored the sh*t out of me when we were told he will play attacking football. Did your "friend's" from Maccabi Tel Aviv come and watch a Brighton game? Because if they did they would retract the statement about it being nonsense.

I must give him credit for what he achieved with the crap squad he inherited and the injuries we suffered. (5/6 first team players out for majority of the season). He has a season of Championship football under his belt and from what i see, you have very attacking team which would suit Garcia so it should be the perfect match. If he gets his tactics right i can see you going on to be promoted.

I wish both Garcia and yourself's the best of luck this season (just not against us obviously) and will be following your result to see how you/he does.

Finishing, 4th, then 6th and the low mid table finish I reckon you'll get this season is certainly an illustration of a gradual decline! I would actually love to know what's gone on at Brighton, not too long ago I was incredibly jealous of your team and you seem to have let most players leave with very little in the way of quality brought in to replace them? Tony Bloom seems to really have slowed down investment.

Fair enough for everything else and thank you for the insight, as for my friends who to Tel Aviv, they never said he didn't play that football at Brighton (as they wouldn't know), just that it's certainly not his philosophy and he was more than likely left with no option due to injuries and a limited squad.

I think Tony Bloom and Brighton is one of the few clubs that actually take FFP seriously.

I heard somewhere they're in huge debt and massively overspent and are now realising they can't invest at the same levels as before.

Brighton supporter here. Glad OG has gone to you. Thoughts on Oscar, he did brilliant job or us last season to get us in the play offs considering the Poyet hangover.
As for the football it's pass from the back always, can get a bit boring sometimes, but we had one of the best records for goals conceeded last season.

Completely different style to what we get from SH who's is much more attack minded.

Your club like Brighton cannot go over 8 million losses I think it is. We where up to 14 million and got this back under 8 milllion which is required for FFP. We saved 2 million on the operating costs at the statium, we sold Ulloa, Bridcutt and Buckley which came to about 13-14 million, and got rid of the higher earners last season, so we are in a much better financial position. On top of that we have sold over 20,000 season tickets again.

We have made some good signings in this window and we think we have a the same if not better squad than two years ago, but we shall see.

I'm a bit sceptical because of his previous lengths of time spent at clubs, as well as the football at brighton, but other than that I'm positive that it won't be the same, and that he'll do well.

Got to give him a chance haven't you...

Lets wait and see what Garcia can do with the squad.

    Needs time before being judged.

  20. Your forgetting our loop hole. Udinese and Granada buy our players, then sell them to us for £1. Our £30M+ squad cost £30.

    FFP, what FFP :jumping1:

I think OG left us because he thought he wasn't going to get any money for transfersin the next season. We where sad to see Oscar go, but in the end it worked out for the best.

Well that's one day of doing it. Better to do that and go spending 30 million pound on players with money you don't have, take the gamble and fail to get promoted.

  24. It might be bending the rules but it is sustainable bending of the rules :)

Anyway good luck this year, I don't mind Brighton at all, like to see you do well.

It's all about being a good fit..will he fit us and will we fit him? Nobody can ever predict a managerial appointment with certainty, otherwise managers would stay for years and never get fired! Rodgers seemed a good fit for Reading when he left us but it backfired on him. Pochetino seemed a bizarre fit for Southampton, having arrived with a mediocre record and no English, yet he turned out to be a great appointment for them. So who can ever tell?

One thing we do have regards Garcia is we can actually judge him already for what he's done at our level. Whereas Vialli and Zola arrived with some successes but in the PL, Dyche, Aidy, Malky and Brendan were all first appointments (two of those we knew from in-house) and Sannino came as a relative unknown with a long CV but all in Italy, our new guy's already had a season in the Championship. It's quite a unique appointment for us in that regard in our recent history.

Seems a good fit to me..for us a manager who has experience, comes from a good background, is a proven winner..for him a club with owners who'll back him, some very good players, a deep squad and 12 points already in the can. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season..bring it on :)

Personally I'm happy with the appointment. I don't think we'll see much done differently on the pitch - but hopefully off it we'll all be united. He has everything he needs to suceed here this year, and I think he will.

Lucky for us then that, uniquely, FFP doesn't apply to Udinese and Granada...

You might want to check his background again, then.

Years spent as a manager: 2
Years spent in Barca academy: 2
Years working as an assistant manager: 1

As far as actual manager/head coach work goes, he has two years of direct senior level management experience (plus one as an assistant manager, which isn't the same thing but is close). One of those years was spent managing in something close to a pub league by comparison to English football (sorry YK!).

He also has only about 2 months more experience of working in England than Beppe does.

Garcia might be many things as a coach, but "experienced" isn't one of them. He may well turn out to be brilliant for us , but lets not pretend he is something he isn't.

Of course the good news is that even if he's crap for us we'll win the title anyway. Should the worst happen our players can apparently win it in spite of him, not because of him. ;)

2 months more than Beppe does NOW after his time with us. The point is in regards to previous managers we have employed in recent years (Dyche, Malky, Rodgers) PLUS Beppe who while experienced had never managed in England before, we have named a manager who has managed in England already and in the Championship where he finished well.

Not that I'm claiming he's experienced of course - but has more suitable experience than we have appointed before!

Seems that the "right hand" that he takes with him wherever he goes is a goalkeeping coach! - i bet Chambo looked at the situations vacant column this morning!

One thing I'm sure we can all agree on is that Garcia needs a good pre-season to prove himself.

I honestly don't know enough about him to have an opinion about how he'll do for us, so all I'll say is that I hope he is someone that has been considered for a while, rather than rushed through because he was so readily available.
