I am Spanish, as you well know. It's all over my avatar. Another cheap jibe, but then I expect that from you now.

It's a shame when someone has a different opinion, is labelled a fool. But then the ignorant will always believe this.

I actually never knew you were Spanish. I thought you were an expat, but now I will read all your posts in a Spanish accent and will enjoy the sound in my head.

I never knew you were Spanish. How would on earth would you imagine Barcelona is not a global brand and used by others? Bizarre to think otherwise.

Anyway your English is excellent. For future reference, alongside the Americans the English are utterly useless (from arrogance) about learning other languages so if you want to make a point about Mazzarri use anyone else except them.

As for why you get a hard time it certainly isn't because you are Spanish because, like me, I doubt many assume Barca = Spain because it's such a global brand. I would suggest it is because of the nature of your posts. That is just my opinion of course.

You seem to know a lot about my past posts, as you recall them readily. I have mentioned this loads of times on the forum in the past and not only is the badge there, there is reference to my location.

I write a lot because it helps to improve my grammar and spelling.....and over the years it's help a hell of a lot, with local sayings and phrases.

I know I'm the most hated person on this forum, but that's fine. I have strong views, but I never go after people nor am I rude to them.. Of course I will fight fire with fire when it comes my way.

Put it this way.......if I wasn't around posting, you'd have no one to target your anger at......so you could consider me a Watford FC public service.

El Tel was great when he came over to Barca. He made every effort right from the very start to speak Spanish. But then, it will disprove Jumbo's point.....we can't be having that now.

You certainly aren't hated. Anyway - you might be winding me up but if you are Spanish then your use of local phrases is really good. Certainly the Spanish guys either side of me at work would be miles behind you despite being fluent in english. (I'm not having a go - this is a complement if you are not joking with me).

So don't generalise - there are language examples both ways.

I really don't see what is so problematic about HB1's point. I wouldn't regard it as at all unreasonable if, on taking a job in another country, my employer expected me to make efforts to learn the language so as to communicate with my clients/customers. Perhaps WM is doing that, and the Pochettino analogy may be valid. If so, then fine. Would be nice to hear him a bit more next year, though - assuming he stays.

I'd like Walter to speak to the press next year but the English are generally below par at speaking other languages. It's a mindset. Did venables even speak Spanish at Barca? Europeans are infinitely more capable of speaking English than vice Versa.

I don't disagree with you that the English are poor at learning languages although I'm not sure it is entirely arrogance - languages are not taught as frequently or well at schools anymore as well.

For me, WM's (apparent) lack of English language is not so much about communicating with the press (though that would be good), or even us fans, but more that it makes me doubt his genuine commitment to the club and the job - to go back to my employment example. It just makes him feel a bit transient (which he may very well end up being!), a bit like he can't be arsed because he knows he won't be around long. I think it just adds to a sense of disengagement that some have been noting recently. But, if he is doing a Pochettino, I have no issue with that.

  17. Does that mean after Brexit HB1 isn't allowed on this forum anymore?

(joke btw not a pick on HB1 post)

I didn't know that HB1 was Spanish either.

His English if so is really impressive.

I'd like Walt to speak English, but it isn't a deal breaker in his first season. More importantly,I want him to bring in stars, build a team which look together, fight for one another and have confidence. I don't think he's proven more than the first point yet, but he deserves until the end of the season to try.

I imagine the Pozzos are practical, and will replace him if they find a manager with a better reputation.

I think the image that they support him comes from the fact that he was given freedom to bring a busloads of backroom staff into the club.

  19. It's a shame when someone who has a very valid opinion, as you frequently do, makes a fool of them self trying to make out they have some greater insight than everyone else, then ends up quarreling not because their opinion is wrong, but because their professed reasoning is nonsensical, as you frequently do.

  20. I don't hate you. I just find some some of the reasoning you use incredible for someone who is otherwise an intelligent contributor.

A good point. If you consider that they're happy to spend £12m on a player, then maybe £2m or so paying off the backroom staff wouldn't seem like that big a deal.

I will add my tuppence worth to the fact that I too did not realise hornet boy was Spanish. Bit unfair of him not to give us a clue by calling himself hornetchico uno.
He is clearly not the most hated poster on here - is anyone hated? - we are all fans of the same club so have that in common to start. He does seem though one of the most controversial posters. Personally I agree with a lot of what he says and suspect his style is deliberately "aggressive" to gain a reaction.

On Mazz - it is pathetic that after a year or more his English is rubbish and not used in public. His job requires him to communicate and he fails in that. I suspect he is just pretty poor at languages though - but that means he should spend even more time learning. Part of his job is to be an ambassador for the club and he will never achieve that without speaking English. Perhaps he does not want to work too hard at it - if so maybe that is why he has not developed better as a coach in England - shy of hard work and unable to learn.

I think arrogance is a real but only a minor part of Brits' failure to master (or try to masetr) other languages. Thanks to the American hegemony after WW2, and our entry into the EEC, English has become the European lingua franca among educated people in northern Europe, and increasingly in the south and east. In the UK, only in the last couple of years have we have much subtitled foreign-language TV, which has helped a lot of Europeans learn our language.

A British manager or player in Scandinavia, Benelux or Germany would have no problem communicating with the fans in English, but the converse does not apply. I'm not saying it's impossible for a foreign manager to succeed in the UK if he can't speak English, but it's a huge disadvantage. The few Brits who've succeeded in Italy or Spain - Hodgson, Lineker, Venables, John Charles - spoke the local language, the equally talented Greaves and Rush didn't, and failed.

If Mazza can't manage a few key sentences in English by the beginning of next season, however comical his accent, I reckon he's a dead duck.

How would anyone have known he was spanish? But a bigger question is why on earth would a spaniard pick watford to support?? We are the antithesis of the spanish football mindset.

hornetboy1 truly is a fascinating subject.

By all (or most) accounts, he can already, but he's waiting until he's more proficient before he addresses the media in English. You know how much they'd love to pounce on something that gets mistranslated.

This has been the case all season, but the people who dont like him have just decided to ignore it. They've also decided to ignore all the reports of him addressing the players in english on the training pitch.

It doesnt suit their agenda you see.
