I'd have Matej Vydra back in a heartbeat! 38 goals in all competitions in two albeit separate seasons for us. I think we've got away with it a bit this season when you consider that neither Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo have not suffered any serious injuries. In fact, have they been injured at all this season? Not sure what we would have done had either had suffered a lengthy injury.
Looked like his diving header goal last night took a big detour off the boot of the challenging defender.
From the BBC: Reading's 1-0 win at Bolton meant the Royals are mathematically assured of their place in the Championship next season. BBC Radio Berkshire reporter Tim Dellor asked boss Brian McDermott about the poor form of striker Matej Vydra following the game, after the on-loan Watford man missed a penalty in the match. The Czech is goalless in the Championship since 28 November but it's fair to say Dellor and McDermott see his contribution a little differently to one another. Here's the transcript of their exchange on the subject: Tim Dellor: "It's an interesting spin because any way you look at it Vydra has not scored for you in the Championship yet. If you look at the number of points that are won by Reading when he is on the pitch it is incredible the disparity between when he is on the pitch and off the pitch. I think quite a lot of people, including myself, are surprised you keep picking him each week." Brian McDermott: "Well there you go. Life is full of surprises, Tim." TD: "It is. Are you not concerned about his complete lack of form in front of goal? I mean his misses today were unbelievable." BM: "I think you're being really quite harsh on him." TD: "I have no doubt I'm being harsh on him but..." BM: "No, I actually think he is working his socks off for the team and I am asking him to work his socks off. He has had opportunities and he has not scored today but there's no way in a million years I'm going to make comments about Matej Vydra that are detrimental to him. He's a great lad, he works his socks off, I see him every day in training so... I am never going to single anybody out like that because it's just wrong in my opinion." TD: "For you because you are the coach..." BM: "No, it's just totally wrong." TD: "Not wrong from me though because I'm just trying..." BM: "No Tim, you can ask whatever question you like and I have to answer it. You are entitled to ask whatever question you like but I have got so much respect for Matej Vydra."
Tim sounds like a ****. Glad to hear Matej is working hard but maybe just needs a goal to bobble in off his knee or something. Penalty misses happen, shows he has the confidence to step up and take it at least.
What was the point being made about results with him in the side vs not? I quote you because you'll probably know. Are they winning more games when he starts?
The first 60 seconds of these highlights are all you need to know about Vydra at the moment. http://www.skysports.com/watch/vide...ions/championship/10227424/bolton-0-1-reading
Jesus Christ that was a shocking penalty. Also he had all the time in the world to shift that chance onto his right foot and have a better opportunity, confidence really isn't there.
Maybe, but I think he has had more shots at goal in that 60 secs than our two have managed in 3 games.
Against the side rooted to the bottom of the championship, who had 10 men. Logical comparison between them Arsenal/Stoke and Leicester.
Yeah - thought he looked fine - quick and dangerous just didn't have his shooting boots on. I know it's the league below but we never seem to have that pace to our attacks.
We already have a squad full of players who don't have their shooting boots on so why would we want another one?
Vydra is in fact Readings leading scorer this season with a total of 9 goals! He has scored them from 27 league appearances a fair number of them from the subs bench and 5 cup appearances.
He's a confidence player and needs decent service, as well as a strike partner to play off. Still irks me that Flores let him go because he couldn't adapt to being the lone striker, and then swiftly switched to playing two up front. Whether he carried his goalscoring form into the premier league or not, he would have given us a decent alternative option and kept Ighalo on his toes.
I don't believe the issue was that he couldn't adapt, more that he had no desire to. In the end it transpired that QSF decided to change the formation after a few games, and he deserves a hell of a lot of credit for that. Vydra went, we're staying up, and we're in the cup semifinal. I've no doubt that, if he wants to knuckle down, he'll be welcomed back into the first team picture.
Talk about confidence issue. Boro just now drawing at home to Reading in the final minute of the game. Vydra is through one on one against Boro's goalie, misses it and Boro score from the resulting counter to win the game. Yikes
The ******** who commentates on Reading games has had an absolute fit about Vydra again tonight. That guy has a serious issue with him. Getting quite funny now!
Probably thinks he should be scoring 15-20 goals line Vydra did for us... Not missing so many "easy" chances.
You know it's bad when one of your teammates tries to fight another one of your teammates yet you're still public enemy number one. Yes, you read that right. Williams tried to fight McShane (both play for Reading) and Vydra still comes off worse
Quite happy to see Reading languishing on 51 points, 17 points off the last play off spot with 5 games to go.........
