Vydra made at least 3 good runs on Saturday. A couple of times he was ignored, and the other time Deeney overhit his pass. Admittedly, when Anya got behind on the left Vydra inexplicably stood and watched.

Joker should be telling players that when Vydra points and accelerates, you give it to him. But at least he has told Vydra he needs to improve his body language, which is half of what's needed.

Doesn't take much for you to change opinion, eh. Incredible turnaround from some of your comments in Huddersfield shoutbox. Amazing what 6 days and a 5-0 win can do.

To be fair, everything in the second quote of your post has been 'corrected' by Joka in the past ten days.

He's shown passion in his interviews, about what he requires from the players, and it certainly looks to have translated into at least one good victory.

Whether it can be maintained is a different issue, but I'm really not sure what's wrong with saying you're warming to someone when your previous criticisms of them have since, at least temporarily, been remedied. It's not like Squibba has said that he now thinks Joka is the next Mourinho.

Well when someone corrects the issues I've raised my opinion will change, it's normal? He's starting to show some form of identity. He takes no sh*t.

Fu*king hell, do you have a Word document at home of everyones quotes? Get a life.

And I stand by the fact I don't think he's the right man to get us promoted.

Saying I'm warming to him and seeing some sort of personality doesn't mean I think he will take us up.

    Once again, get a girlfriend.

For me, he's been making these kind of quotes since he came in. After a loss, he's a joke, after a win, he's finally showing some personality.

    Okay and that's your opinion.

You think he's shown personality from day one, I think he's just showing some personality.

Not everything in life has a right or wrong answer you know. It's called opinion.

Fair comments about Vydra. Not sure the media was the place for them but this seems to be where Joka does most of his business.

Hope Matej listens as he could be the difference between promotion and another season in the cloggerzone.

Was that when the ball was sliced behind the keeper and trickled along the goal line? I have to agree, he didn't make any effort to get on the end of that. He could have been there for an easy tap in and I think its this sort of thing that Joka is referring to. Stand still and you will not score goals. As a striker you have to make many pointless runs in order to be there on that occasion when it actually does come to you.

I agree with your comment over his body language. He looks always so frustrated on the pitch, often throwing his head back in despair. This has to stop. If he really wants to be a top striker he has to improve his attitude. He probably measures himself by the goals he scores and beats himself up over it. His overall game is good enough to not have to worry about scoring goals. He should just go out there, knuckle down and actually enjoy himself......the rest will come flowing back I'm sure, because he has all the talent to go far in the game.

Although I started this thread saying that I thought MV had been wrongly given a hard time from some of our fans, I have to say he did not seem to put in much effort on Saturday, especially for that cross mentioned earlier from Anya and one other, had he made a run for those two he could have had a couple of tap ins :dismay:

I was unreservedly pleased when the news came through that he was returning to us, but it just hasn't worked out as most would have expected and his confidence/attitude issues are disappointing for all. Last season may have knocked him back somewhat. All we can hope is that he has support from within the club and outside which will enable him to turn things around. It is just a difficult phase of his career, but he clearly has the ability to shake it off and get back to his very best. My niggling fear is that he may get it into his head that he is better off elsewhere. The cliché "he just needs a goal" is entirely relevant in this case. Not sure if Joka is a good man manager/one to one communicator, so maybe Dean Austin could be tasked with addressing this matter.

If we have all four strikers in form, we have every chance.

There is an argument that Vydra should care more, and I would probably have to lean to that side of the argument.

It isn't that he is categorically lazy, he does make a few runs and he has been making lots of runs over the past few months, and did so the second he came on. When the pass didn't come, he got in a huff and jogged about. He was on for fifteen minutes only. If he really cared and wanted to get into the team, he would not stop running for those fifteen minutes. He should have bust a gut to get to the six yard box, where he is most dangerous, rather than mostly jogging to stay on the edge of play.

Both Deeney and Ighalo dropped deep to help defend from the front, but we looked most dangerous on Saturday when Deeney dropped almost into a number ten position, and had a number of forward options ahead of him, including Ighalo on the shoulder of the defender. This is where Vydra should be most of the time, especially when Deeney is deep. he needs to know when to drop back, and when to be on the last man, but certainly not something in between which is what he is currently doing.

He has lost a bit of pace and he has lost a lot of confidence. But it's his lack of desire to work hard for the fifteen minutes that he was given, after Joka's speech saying that he would pick hard workers, was not inspiring.

His messing around at half time reminded me a bit of Almunia's comments at the end of the first season. Wasn't joining in the quick one touch passing (signalling our new intentions), but was happy to wonder around by himself or laugh and joke with our announcer. Meanwhile Mensah and Byers looked sad to stop kicking the ball about as they had to get off the pitch, and most of the team were on the pitch by the time they left.

He has quality. I am sure he wants to be here. But if he gets fifteen minutes, he needs to be positive and work hard. Otherwise, he is simply not going to get a game ahead of Ighalo.

It's interesting to compare Ighalo's cameos off the bench to Vydra's. The difference in work rate, attitude and, as a result, effectiveness, is actually pretty massive.

Joka knows what he wants and the squad are responding to it. If Matej doesn't want to then he doesn't play, it's his choice. There was an interview with Pudil earlier in the season I think where he said he was telling Matej to just keep working hard on the training pitch and in games and he will score goals. If he's not listening to his boss or his best mate then I don't know what will give him the kick up the arse he needs.

Matty will come good again ... and with a bang, he is far too good not to.

Trust in Joka and the squad to help him back.... and I think Layun will provide many of the right passes that have been missing. Good balls though they may be, Tozser puts a lot over the top which have to be controlled, stopping momentum while Vydra needs those slide-rule passes two thirds up the pitch to run onto. He's not been getting enough of them recently but Mexicans play that way all the time .... Just trust!

Pick yourself up, mate. As Slav says, if you work hard, the goals will come. Watch his movement in the video and it becomes clear why he hasn't scored in so long. You'd never see Ighalo do this, even at 5-0.

It's a shame because with Vydra on form, we almost certainly have the best attacking options in the division. Hopefully he'll find his touch when it matters like he did in 12/13 against Leicester.

edit: Yes, he shows effort and hard work in patches, like when he won the FK for Tozser's goal. Unfortunately, it's interspersed with stuff like this. Hopefully Joka's words got through to him.

Vydra will certainly go through a hot streak at some point in the season. the ability is there the mentality is just a bit off.
Its the mentality of the whole team jakanovic has been building on and vydra like the rest will benefit.

I think Vydra will up his game with the rest of the main squad.

    Ona side note:
Everton just off loaded Samuel Eto'o to Sampdoria tonight.
from what i've been hearing he was causing serious issues in their squad, undermining the manager etc..

Interesting to see if removing him repairs their season.

Not really fixed though is it? He's seen arriving into the box jogging which is what he did for 30 yards, not too much to ask a footballer to sprint for 10 or so yards is it?

If he'd had started running at the same time that Anya did, he'd have scored.

EDIT: Or even a couple seconds after.
