Should be interesting then. I would imagine we wouldn't proceed unless we had a significant amount of dirt on Silva.

So if i get this right

    WFC complain about EFC.

League say if you want compo we'll mediate discussions between you to acheive mutually acceptable deal.

    No agreement.

WFC can either continue futile negotiations or request FA disciplinary investigation.

FA investigation outcome will either be nothing or an FA fine / embargo for EFC. But FA cannot make EFC pay WFC one penny.

Lets hope the FA throws the book at them.

EFC complain about WFC doing same to Hull, FA say Hull need to complain for us to investigate, Silva sacked by xmas.

I can’t be certain but although the FA won’t be happy with ‘tapping up’ this falls under the PL’s banner and as such, the FA won’t get involved. What the next stage would be if the PL take no action and we still want to pursue it, I don’t know.

Court of Arbitration for Sport? Or a civil case?

I don't think the PL will do nothing because that will set a precedent for the future and would likely get very messy one day, even a tin pot lawyer would simply be able to quote the case of "EPL/WFC vs EFC".

Likely outcomes would be a fine and/or points deduction.

Hull issue is largely irrelevant because (a) Hull would have to complain, which I don't believe they have done and (b) there was a break clause in case of their relegation, which happened.

Agreed totally I believe they will set an example of Everton. More than likely a points reduction. Or Everton will pay off Gino on the hush.

I think the agreed pay off boat has sailed.

Depressing if true. Everton simply work out that any fine/penalty is likely to be less from the FA than compensation to WFC would be. Why would they ever settle with us for a meaningful sum. All seems a bit of a pointless waste of time to me to take this any further. Expect a bit of a slap and Everton told to sit on the naughty step for a few weeks.

I don't know, if the evidence is overwhelming then the EPL will have to do something. If on top of all of this Richarlison was using a mobile issued by the club and there is evidence of him being tapped up as well then EFC won't have a leg to stand on if we press for the EPL to do something about that as well.

  10. Grrwood

If the club statement is to be believed, this isn't about the compensation money anymore (lets face it, we've pretty much gotten this through the Rich deal albeit unofficially) and more about proving Everton's guilt and setting a precedent that we shouldn't be allowed to be taken for mugs according to the FAs own rules.

  11. The undeniable truth

yes the issue is what they "do about it". Can you really see the FA clobbering EFC after a complaint from us ? They will get a warning/small financial penalty and that will be the end of that.

It does seem strange for Everton to dig their heels in. As we've seen, money means very little to them, so surely paying us off behind closed doors is preferable to this going further and potentially details of their misdemeanours coming out for the world to see?

Is it even about Everton anymore?

By doing this, showing every other club they have to go through official channels when dealing with WFC, maybe Pozzo/Duxbury are saying they won't be dealt with like second class citizens.

They're saying WFC have every right to sit at the same table as the financially elite clubs and money cannot be used to steamroller them into a position less than level.

Points deduction and Silva clocks up his second premier league relegation. Richarlison realises another dream by playing away at Rotherham.

They're not the brightest though. They still think we want money out of them despite the clear wording of the statement. I think they're worried.

It will be more a question of pride and the embarrassment of being fored to write out a big cheque to little WFC.

Exactly. The fact Everton didn’t financially settle with us (if this evidence is as overwhelming and obvious as we claim it to be) tells me it’s not about money for them either. It’s about the name of their club and it’s place in the game. They will be desperate not to be seen as guilty of doing anything wrong and any payment would have been an admittance of wrongdoing. That kind of behaviour will hang around the clubs neck like an albatross - and ultimately make it very difficult for them to conduct transfer business amicably in the short to mid-term.

If the stories are to be believed, their only defence is that we tapped up Silva first from Hull. Which is a strange defence as two wrongs won’t make a right here. And Hull didn’t say anything at the time?!

One thing that is certain to me - and should be to all Everton fans, regardless of their delusion - Watford would not be pursuing this and would not have worded our statement with such strong wording on a whim or heresay. We have evidence you tapped up our manager and the fact we sacked him months later is irrelevant.

Let’s just hope the PL see that evidence as overwhelming and clear as the club do, and a flagrant use of force to undermine another club.

Moshiri really has no idea how to run a club. That much is becoming clear.

...or they will be told off and given a little slap by the FA ? Who will that stop ?

  19. Getting two parties to agree without the law or regulations interceding is always the preferred option, and the PL would always prefer it, without prejudice to either side, if the matter can be sorted out privately.

What may go against a team is if they are seen as being unrealistic in any attempt to settle the matter in a way that forces the hand of the governing body/courts. I speculated that if Everton were only offering £1m, as reported a few months ago, having allegedly offered £15m last year, they may be attempting to cut their losses by forcing the PL to judge the matter, and award less than we are asking, and that in some cases that would be frowned upon and may go against them.

I am surprised, but quite proud, to hear that we have put ourselves in a position where we may not now enter arbitration, and therefore may no longer seek official compensation. I think that appears quite classy of the magnificent Gino.

However, I wouldn't be surprised should Everton receive a substantial fine, if the PL redirected part of that to Gino's coffers. It would be, I believe, within their remit to do such a thing.

  20. This claim of Everton's appears entirely worthless. Silva had a break clause, and therefore any possible element of tapping up will have been entirely immaterial, as he did not want to remain in the Championship. If anything, we would have done them a favour by taking his wages off their books sooner. The only possible misconduct that may have occurred by which Sliva could imply we acted incorrectly is if he kept on telling us to go away, but we didn't take no for an answer. Fortunately he is a well known whore and the Judge, who had probably used the snake himself on a few occasions, would have laughed him out of court.

I am sure it is as much about ensuring others deal with us on our terms as it is about the specifics of Everton and what went on last autumn. We do seem to be the ones accused of being too clever within the rules - Like the overseas loans in year one. so maybe a bit of - We dont break the rules and get a bad press, but when we have evidence that the rules have been broken we expect action. Anyway I don't think everton have that much pull over the EPL to sway any judgement. If anything the EPL will not want the bad publicity of a public examination of the evidence. So hopefully resolved soon. For us the best result would be the upholding of our complaint and the shaming of Everton. Any punishment imposed on everton has little direct impact on us.

I honestly don't think it will stop tapping up or any other kind of underhand approaches from anyone by any large degree.

It's just a matter of saying deal with us properly or we'll embarrass you by showing your sponsors what shysters you are.
If a club is shown in such a bad light despite claiming their innocence then some sponsors don't appreciate being tarnished with that behaviour.
Nor should the brand that is the EPL.

The old saying of any publicity is good publicity is no longer true due to the power of social media and 'the people' more prepared to blacklist organisations than ever before.

It'll never cost clubs enough to really hurt them but reputation does count somewhere along the line.

Or... the Premier League actually look after a member of their massive internationally recognised brand and punish those who are clearly shown to be dealing in underhand ways. Just as Everton don't want to be seen around the world as liars or cheats (if indeed that's what they are), so neither does the EPL board of accountants want their name alongside tawdry headlines of wrongdoing by its members.

Also, by doing this Watford are riding a white horse with a halo shining bright and taking a stand for the so called smaller clubs.
WFC's sponsors will be delighted to be associated with such integrity and honesty. That too will/may pay off in the long term for Gino & Scott.

The ‘compelled’ part is the most interesting.

Sounds to me like an accusation at Everton for the ‘leak’ that the transfer cost includes compensation for Silva, to make the fee seem less significant to their own fans.

While I see your point and hope it’s true, we could still be guilty of not approaching Hull irrespective of his break clause.

    For instance:
The correct matter would be for us to have approached Hull and asked about the contractual status of their manager. The status would then be divulged and we would do the gentlemanly thing to do and inform Hull of our intention to speak to their manager under the specific term of his contract that allows us to do so. - This is what I expect was done given that Hull and their owners made no complaint or took no action against us.

But, had we bypassed Hull and got that information from him directly or from his agent, then we would be swimming in some dodgy waters where we may have some questions to answer regarding an illegal approach. - I suspect this very unlikely as Gino would know it would be used against him.

Everton are fighting a losing battle in terms of proving their innocence I think. How heavily punished they get for that, anyone’s guess.

I would laugh if the way we found out was because Crystal Palace made an illegal approach and we got the info second hand and that any investigation brings a tapping up charge against Palace!

I think it's more likely to be as a result of the Daily Mail article published overnight, which implies Watford are somehow in the wrong to be pursuing compensation by continuing their complaint. Timely for the club to make it clear money's not a part of this anymore.

    I agree.

That article is so bizarre. Anyone who has any sense can see we are entitled to pursue Everton over this and it’s a completely separate matter. The fact they have chosen to completely overpay for one of our players is irrelevant. Quite why that paper believes we should be somehow greatful to Everton for doing so is beyond me.

Everton were a club that I used to quite like and admire, but Jesus their fans are something else. I've never known a fan base to have such delusions of grandeur, despite not actually winning anything for the last 22 years.

My friend is a Southampton fan and said they did the exact same to Southampton when they took Ronald Koeman.
