While you're there, can we interest you in an experienced former international full back? He has a lovely temperament, is barely a day over 34 and has already shown commitment to the Everton cause with his second half performance at Goodison last season. Yours for £20m. Bargain!

If the rumours are true and the fee is in fact £35mil for Richarlison and £15mil for the comp for tapping up Silva then happy days. Obviously Everton were never going to admit any wrong doing but this astronomical fee for a player who had about 10 good games last season is insanity. The only logical explanation is the supposedly ITK word that this is for Everton to save face and us to receive the comp on the down low. Unfortunately for them, people talk so word got out. I still don’t expect Everton to admit anything but this fee tells the true story. Either that or their chairman is a complete idiot.

Where has that been reported? I mean it’s not hard to believe but I haven’t seen exact figures talked about?

The rumours on our side of things is that it's £35m guaranteed (although not all up front, obviously) with add-ons which may eventually take it to just under £50m - how achievable all of those add-ons are nobody knows

The cynical side of me says that Everton will be happy to let Watford control the narrative here.

E.g. we sold Lukaku for £75m last summer with add-ons taking it to £90m. It's more commonly reported as £75m though

I think Watford will brief that it's a £50m deal and Everton will go along with that in an attempt to smooth the relationship - it isn't good for either side to have a club which they don't want to deal with

Clause 1 - £100k to Watford every time Silva flashes his obscenely large watch on MOTD

We'll have the remaining £15m by January.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are trying to get Everton to agree to a allocate more of the Richarlison fee to the compensation, to reduce the amount we pay Fluminese for the 10 percent sell on.

So apparently, for anyone interested, it's a guaranteed amount of £35m, with achievable bonuses which take it to £40m and then some slightly less achievable add-ons (Champions League qualification etc) which take it to a maximum of £44m

    Thoughts?

Still think we are overpaying in all honesty

I think that’s what Everton are saying to make it sound less damaging.

Most others are saying £44mil upfront with £7mil in add ons taking it to £51mil. That sounds much more believable to me to be honest.

Considering the few Everton “ITK’s” on twitter who are pushing what your saying, are being made fun of for being wrong all the time by your own fans, I will trust what majority of other journalists are claiming.

Either way, I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes down as an undisclosed deal but will be well mooted that it’s a deal in excess of £40mil.

I would not be too sure what the actual figures are going to be on the final deal. Both clubs will probably not be too keen on disclosing the final fee involved for various reasons connected with not losing face as much as anything else. 35 million does appear to be guaranteed. The rest is conjecture between 36 - 50 million. Remember Watford need to pass across 10% to Fluminese and there is the 'compensation' element to consider. As I have said before the agent is the main winner here, as the clubs and the player carry all the risk.

LOL if true how on earth did we pull that off, absolute daylight robbery. We could be looking at 40-50 mill for Richarlison and Silva, both of which only had 8 or 9 decent games, madness.

There will be two sides to it, definitely

Watford will brief the upper end of the deal, Inc all the bits and bobs which in all likelihood will never be paid

Everton will disclose the lower end of it, which is the fee they will have to pay

The truth will be somewhere in the middle (I.e. somewhere between £35m and £50m from the sounds of things), and it's very unlikely any of us will ever find out exactly what it was, unless it ends up on footyleaks

I do believe Richarlison will prove to be a very good (possibly a great) player. For a Brazilian he is very direct, physically strong and very good in the air. Not for no reason, one of the most fouled players last season. He is also hard-working and ambitious. His shooting though is not currently EPL standard and his decision making passing wise is often wayward. He will be under much more pressure at Everton to perform. It will be interesting. As for Silva don't think he will last the course. His ego is massive but he has done little so far in England and his integrity is forever tarnished in my eyes. Moshiri will be even more demanding than Gino.

Totally agree. I think that’s why the evertonian at the Liverpool Echo released this story of £35mil to save face. I wouldn’t put it past someone from your PR team getting in touch and basically saying “hey we’re being slated on social media for buying Richarlison at £50mil, here’s a few bob, write that it’s only £35mil plus add ons, thanks.”

Seems a few others picks up on it but most are still saying £40mil+ upfront plus add ons.

Either way it will be undisclosed and until the profits are made public next year, no-one will know.

I think only Everton fans will believe the £35mil story, the rest of the football world will go along with £40mil+

Even if Sky release it we can’t trust them considering Jim White is your chairman’s mouthpiece as well.

Without sounding bitter, I am disappointed we are letting him go, he is a very talented individual and has all the markings of being a top player one day. I was really hoping he would give us one more season but at that price we can’t turn it down. He might be a blazing success for you or he might crumble under the pressure of such a hefty price tag. Either way, after spending the amount of money on potential, you better hope he comes through otherwise there will be a lot of Everton fans getting on his case. He is Silva’s boy, so even if you’re on his case, Silva will not drop him for anything, even when he is playing poorly.

If I was an Everton fan though, I would be concerned at the fact you are spending all that money on a player who doesn’t want to play for anyone else but Silva. The moment he goes, which he will, sacked or dump you like he did us, your going to have a player on £105k p/w that will simply throw his toys out the pram. Inevitably you will sell him to wherever Silva goes next, I think you would do well if you were to break even on what you’ve paid for him.

Eventually there will be a consensus about how much that guaranteed fee is. Whether that's £35m or £40m or whatever

The contention will be what the add-ons are worth and how much of that is realistic. We may never know that

All this will be clearer at the end of his season at Goodison.

Anyone have any intel on how add ons work?

If we have two mill for Richie playing 100 times for EFC & he’s transferred to Madrid after 99, how wonga should we expect?

The 44m figure is interesting. Given fluminese have 10% sell on that would leave us with 40, them with 4, which sounds about right with a small amount of add-ons we will never recieve cos Everton are ****.

  31. No need for PR at this end

Looking at 25 years of Udinese history told every Watford fan exactly what the Watford model would be when they bought the club, there are no surprises here

Every player is sellable, and there is a conveyor belt of young prospects from around the world to take their place

The need for PR at Everton end is however pressing, it's a heck of a lot of money to spend on an unproven prospect by an unproven manager; and even worse when viewed in the context of the last 12 months of transfers

(Unproven player in that he only had a couple of months of good performances, unproven coach in that he has failed to date at both Prem clubs he has worked)

    Really?

You don't think that Watford are conscious of the ill feeling towards Everton from the fanbase?

If they are aware, surely it's in their interests to make out that the fee they received was a big as possible? The only way a lot of Watford fans will find the idea of selling to Everton palatable is if they perceive that they are forcing Everton to pay well over the odds

That "£50 million" figure certainly didn't come from the Everton end

From Everton's perspective, there isn't the need to pacify the fan base about dealing with Watford, but there is the usual PR that buying and selling clubs do - buying club tries to emphasize the lower end of the deal, selling club does the opposite, both trying to prove that they got the better end of the deal

It is somewhat amusing that Everton appointed a new Director of Footbal under a big fanfare about how excellent he was at identifying players.

Two months into the transfer window and no signings later, they go and pay a huge amount for someone at the manager's previous club.

Apparently Richarlison was 4th on the list after Lozano, Zaha and Malcom - all of whom were either more expensive or preferred moves elsewhere

Read something yesterday about how Brands had Richarlison on his radar at PSV and regretted not making a move for him. He was ultimately gazumped by Ajax, who were in turn gazumped by Watford
