Clearly not the correct Brands then?!

  2. The Pozzos don't kow-tow to the fans. It's not a vanity project to them, it's a business.

Even if that is true, it kind of proves the point though, doesn't it? He "identified" three well-known players who were never going to come to Everton and then agreed to pay a huge fee for one the manager worked with the previous season.

And, yes, of course he knew all about Richarlison when he was at PSV and that's not just a line put out by the club to make it seem like it wasn't completely a Silva transfer. And surely to be gazumped he'd have to have made a move for him in the first place?

£50m for Richarlison makes the £15m Liverpool paid for Shaqiri seem like even better business

That is very kind of you, that will be in the region of 2,000 pints then.
Not just the board of Everton F.C. throwing wads of money our way then, now they've been joined by their supporters. Well at least one anyway.

  6. You're making the error of judging Watford through Evertonian eyes

Pozzos don't disclose transfer dealings, I can't think of any off the top of my head that have not been 'undisclosed', even when fan favourites like Vydra, Forestieri left. Us fans generally give them a lot of leeway in how they want to run the club as it wasn't that long ago we were in debt up to our eyeballs with administrators knocking on the door

The ill feeling towards Everton is something and nothing, 2 years ago it was directed at Muff. The problem is whilst Scum Town continue to be a lower league club we have no one to dislike.

Good post this. Made me reconsider my take on the whole thing

Having said that though, the evidence suggests that Watford have indeed briefed on this - that "£50 million" thing came from somewhere and it's a safe bet it wasn't Everton

  9. NathWFC

Why? Shaqiri is crap, has one good game in every ten and has less potential to become a player of great value. Richarlison could be worth the money in the end.

  10. The end of year financial statements will be the place to look for the best estimate, everything else is just made up **** by attention seekers with social problems

Unless Marco gets the bullet or jumps ship early on in his contract - then he might be on the move.

Indeed. In 3 years he could be worth 45m.

Daily Mail article suggesting we are having another go at Everton. They suggest that it is a rather brazen act after we took all the Richarlison money. The two are completely separate and yet they somehow manage to make us look like the bad guys!

  14. Steve Leo Beleck

Good stuff. If we think we have a case, we have to exhaust all channels rather than just get pushed around by a wealthier club with no respect for the rules. Sends exactly the right message, despite what the Daily Mail thinks. Also puts paid to the idea that it was somehow all wrapped up in the Richarlison fee.

So love the timing of this announcement the very next day after we have taken £40M - £50M from Marco 'the snakes' new club with all deluded Everton fans saying the compensation is factored into the transfer fee..
Errrr WRONG!! Now pay us compensation for your illegal tapping up actions Please..Brilliant timing Gino, now that's how to run a business

    In the Pozzos we trust

Everton will just play for time. They got their man and probably don’t want to do any further business with us now so they’ll string the owners along.

I would assume that should Everton reject the compensation claim again and due to having been told to sort the issue out between us back in May by the Premier League, they will be forced to intervene and have the clubs testify before an arbitration panel. Therefore, the timeline will be dictated by them (The Premier League), and both clubs will have to adhere to that.

The timing of the announcement regarding compensation is certainly no accident!

"After receiving such a huge fee from Everton, a potential £32.5m profit on the £11.5m they paid for Richarlison last year, the demand for more money could reflect poorly on Watford"

"Watford have reignited proceedings against Everton in a brazen demand for compensation over Marco Silva."

Brazen demand for more money, sounds like Watford to me. Last time I had a season ticket they outrageously wanted to charge me for beer in the stadium too - and they wouldn't let me have the shirt I tried to steal from the shop. Despite having bought a full kit this year they have not dropped the charges. Brazen I tell you.

As far as I'm concerned the case is closed. They paid treble what R was worth so thanks and goodbye.

I disagree, if they have proof of also tapping up Richarlison as well, which to be fair is very likely that Silva could have been in direct contact with him then we could possibly hit them with a double whammy tapping up complaint.

    Official club statement:

"Watford FC feels compelled to make the following statement in a bid to correct erroneous and misleading media reports concerning an ongoing dispute with Everton FC.

The club have made an official complaint to the Premier League over an allegation of an illegal approach to former manager, Marco Silva.

The complaint to the Premier League makes clear the seriousness of the allegation and what the club believes is overwhelming evidence of a clear breach of Premier League rules.

At the request of the Premier League we entered into mediation with Everton in a process that involved club officials and their respective legal teams, with no conclusion being reached.

Therefore the disciplinary process continues. In pursuing its disciplinary claim, the club has known from the outset it forfeited any right to compensation as a consequence of not following a proposed arbitration process.

We believe this situation is not about a compensation figure but the principle of making a stand when the actions of one Premier League club completely undermine and cause intrinsic damage to a fellow member club.

We trust in the Premier League to fully investigate the complaint and we will comply with that process.

The club will be making no further comment."

From the above, it’s not closed as far as the club are concerned.

It’s well worded too and backs up the theory at the time that Gino said they wouldn’t let Silva go to Everton at ANY cost. The fact the club have been open in saying they are happy to forfeit compensation in order for it to be known that Everton broke the rules is telling. This was never about money.

‘Overwhelming EVIDENCE of a CLEAR breach of Premier League Rules.’ Providing this is true, Everton are playing with fire by not playing ball.

As much as I admire the clubs fight, what outcome do they hope can be achieved? Surely all they'll get is a fine from the league

Am hearing they're being busted down to the Conference North. Premier League not messing around on this one.

Would surely depend on the severity of the rule breach and if it’s just one singular attempt or repeated efforts. The word ‘overwhelming’ leads me to believe it’s the latter.

Directors/Owners/Chief Exec’s can be suspended for such matters. Transfer Embargo’s can be put in place. Points deductions...etc etc. Not saying any of these will but dependant on the nature and severity of the case...

I’d say it’s clear now that Watford are willing to take this as far as necessary on principle alone. The PL would do well to look at this as a priority rather than have it dragging on into the season.

If the club do indeed have the compelling evidence that they claim to have, it is only right that they pursue this. Personally I would be rather ashamed of my club if the roles were reversed and these claims were being levelled at WFC.

I hope this goes all the way, and full details of exactly what happened are released. The Premier League cannot just sit by and allow such underhand tactics to become normalised.

I'd say that If the PL's first response was to try and get us to smooth it over ourselves, then I would assume they would really prefer we just drop it. Its nice we're fighting back, but ultimately the PL couldn't give a fark what clubs do in regards to tapping up players/coaches

  31. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

Maybe. But as discussed on this thread previously by others, that is purely the 1st required step that the clubs must adhere to as set by the PL. The club had to enter into those mediation talks in order to get to the stage we are at now. They couldn’t be bypassed or refused. I had the same view as yourself but upon looking into it more via the rules as printed on the PL website, it’s clear.

I see the Everton fans on Grandoldteam are weaving some sort of narrative about us tapping up Silva while he was at Hull. Apparently that's their big defence.

I think this is about little old Watford saying don’t tap up our players / managers in the future, otherwise we will feck you up.
