Marseille chat seems to have died down but lots of links to Granada now with a suggestion that if no-one reaches our asking price, he'll go there on loan (some mention of a €3m loan fee). One article said he's attracted by European football and his partner is from Granada. Also played a season at Granada B and there was that tweet a while back from his agent that said he was close to a new adventure in the top flight and European football...

Seems like a matter of when, not if, he leaves.

Given he won’t be on massive wages, loaning Suarez would be idiotic. A sign that the players rule the roost.

Not like at our club. This season has been a mutiny. Other clubs have at least a modicum of control over their playing staff with a few isolated bad apples.

Can you honestly remember a situation like ours?

Yes, what's the actual point of loaning him when we need a striker?

Would be daft in the extreme.

No I can't. I agree the current situation is very odd. Tough time for the Pozzos to be trying to shift players but having quality players sitting idle while the first team splutters below L**** in the table is poor. It's going to be an interesting few weeks and will be good when that window has slammed shut (loan market and Pozzo loopholes excepted).

Almost as daft as selling the only fit left back we had at the club, then scrambling around for a replacement.

Wasn’t that an option to sign him for £5m in a year after his loan?

Yes as far as I know.

The only "bids" we seem to have made for permanent transfers are from Udinese.

If we're going to stand firm on any players, it needs to be Suarez. His wages will be relatively cheap. He's not proven himself at a decent level. Make him stay and play for a move in the future. He's not achieved anything yet.

Doesn't surprise me - Vlad listed out strikers after the game and didn't mention Luis - think his list was Gray, Deeney, Pedro, Sarr and Murray. I hope Murray improves, but at 76 I don't hold much hope.

Disappointing, but we clearly need to get some players out & I’m guessing it’s proving harder to move Deeney, Gray & Welbeck on than hoped. Coupled with the fact he clearly doesn’t want to play for us, then a loan, with a hefty loan fee, is probably best. That way if he does well we can sell him next season, or bring him back for the PL if we get there. Can’t really blame him for going to Granada who have European football and one of the brightest coaches in Europe.

We have a lot of strikers but most of them are not up to the job. This lad just might be but instead we’re loaning him out?? Seems really odd.

If he’s that uncommitted that we can’t rely on him then get him sold, get some funds coming in. I’m sure we’ll get a small loan fee but not enough to sign a replacement. This scenario means we don’t have this quality CF and we don’t have money incoming.

The only ‘win’ for us is if he has at least 3 years left on his contract, plays brilliantly in La Liga / Europa League and we can get twice the fee next season. Big gamble.

Deeney, Pedro, Sarr, Gray, Perica and Murray. Maybe Welbeck.

Yeah, pretty much my thoughts too. Would rather we had a fit and motivated Suarez to help us this season, but a) there's no guarantee he bags goals in the Championship, and b) it's clear he wanted to leave. Again, would have liked to get a nice transfer fee, but that was wishful thinking in this climate, at least we're getting something for now, with the possibility of him playing for us next season or selling him on for hopefully £20m plus

Maybe we are going to get another one in ?

Trouble is can we rely on Deeney and Murray whilst Welbeck seems to be a no in terms of playing.

We are creaking a bit at the moment, I wouldn't want us to have any more injuries/suspensions or for Sarr to be sold imminently (not that the latter is looking likely), but Gray and Perica should be decent at this level, with Deeney and Murray for emergencies. I think someone will lose their nerve towards the end of the window and sign Welbeck, but even if he doesn't leave, I can't see us playing him given we'd (presumably) have to fork out about another £50k for each week he plays

Sarr is by far our best player, but he doesn't strike me as an out and out goalscorer.

He'll terrify teams, create goals and score a few too but I don't see him being a forward like Vydra/Ighalo/Deeney the last time we went up. Did he even have a single chance today for example?

We have no idea what Deeney will be like and Murray looks awful. Gray is out for a while and again is someone who has been out of form for 3/4 seasons...

Pedro has so much potential but seems wasteful in front of goal. A joy to watch, but we have seen him miss a lot of good chances and even his goal today was a fortunate finish.

Perica missed a lot of chances against Oxford and was poor against Newport.

Suarez may have turned out to be crap, but on paper he was a great fit for our team - a natural goalscoring forward.

If we lose him, I think he needs to be replaced.

I fear we will be stuck with Deeney, Murray and Perica - 3 'lumps' who won't get the best out of our other attackers.

Think this is an absolutely ******* dreadful decision. If dont go up, I think this will be a massive part of it.

Even if he plays well - his value will go down because he will only have 1 year left on his deal and he will have us over a ******* barrel like Estupinan.

I guess this means we cant find anyone to ship Deeney to

I was very surprised Sarr started today, but he did well, even though it was clear to me he wasn't fully match fit. He'll be even better when he's at 100%, we just have to hope that's for us. Pedro and Perica are both wasteful, but they'll create opportunities for themselves and others, they'll both net their fair share I'm sure (can add Gray to that category even though he's not going to play for a while). Add to that goals from other areas (Cathcart, Sema and Penaranda from the spot have already scored for us this season, and goals from all over the pitch are a feature of Ivic's teams) and a strong defence, and I don't think a wantaway striker leaving is something we need to be overly worried about. I have no idea what to expect from Deeney this season, and the early signs on Murray are not positive

Sena scored against a League 1 team and Penaranda scored a penalty against a League 2 team.

We played great today and dominated the entire game but only won 1-0 thanks to a deflected goal. 2 goals in 3 games suggests to me the warning signs are there that we don't currently look like scoring enough this season.

  30. I’m feeling so positive today I’m going to trust the club knows what it’s doing. If losing Suarez means keeping Sarr I’m onboard that bus.

I’m also wondering if Udinese returning the Serbian kid has anything to do with it? Means Pereyra can move there which gets 2 off the wage bill (and Pereyra is going to be on a whack) and he replaces Suarez to make our 6 strikers?

I don't think 3 games are enough to make any firm predictions about this team, we're a work in progress, and I'm not expecting hatfuls of goals anyway even when we are fully firing. It's very possible to win promotion with less than 70 goals (I think we'll be around there this season), and I think we'll have the kind of defensive record to make that possible. I think there are other areas of the pitch we need to worry about more, I wouldn't want to lose any more midfielders for whatever reason (though it's an area we're looking stronger in now), and of course Estupinan leaving (albeit he was always more likely to go than Suarez) means that Sema is playing there (as well as he's playing he's arguably wasted there)

Two useless OAP's, a player with an apparent brilliant career goals to minutes ratio but no actual goals, Gray who still hasn't mastered the art of controlling a football at 29, and Pedro who looks excellent but is still a kid and may not prove to be an out and out goalscorer. Sarr is a winger despite a decent showing up front today (although he still often drifted wide), no idea why he's suddenly being listed as a striker really, and still may well leave anyway.

We may have some quantity, but there's a lack of quality.

Cant believe people are actually defending the decision to loan out a guy who scored 19 goals last season and replace him with a national league quality striker.

To make it even more ridiculous it will half his value as well as he can leave on a free six months after he comes back.

Why not just take the 13m Marseille offered and reinvest it now if we were going to get rid of him on loan?

This is the worst possible deal anyone could think of.

    Absolute shambles.
