What I meant was that even when Deeney was picked he showed no desire, determination or fight to keep us up. Football contribution and whether he should have been picked or not aside, I did not see any leadership qualities or encouragement for his team mates - saw much more from Hughes on the pitch and even Gomes after the Arsenal game. Deeney looked like he could not be bothered or was more inclined to roll his eyes or moan at team mates.

Even off the pitch he seemed more interested in talking about political issues than the Watford cause which brings me back to the original point of his priorities. It is his lack of leadership and seeming attitude that I find hard to accept especially so when he is lauded as being such an amazing captain and ready to give his all for the club.

In writing this I realise I’m genuinely angry with the role Deeney played or didn’t play last season. His knee injury is a valid excuse for performance but there is no excuse for his apathy and lack of leadership imo.

(Agree with you that Gray was out of order and I’m not a fan of him, but disagree that Pearson couldn’t pick Pedro and I think and thought at the time that he had to pick him given the other alternatives).

I don't blame Troy looking back, towards the end there was times when he asked to come off because his injury. Against Arsenal he did alright and put a shift in, could be deemed too little too late, but the one apparent sign was him having a partner in Welbeck next to him. If we went with 2 up top more often I think we'd have collected a few more points. That's how I'd decide if he stays or goes this season - If we're playing 1 up top then Troy needs to go, for our good and his, if Ivic is thinking of someone next to Pedro, then Troy would be a good shout. I still remember the one touch stuff between Troy and Welbeck against Arsenal, and it was a joy to watch - Troy has that in his locker if he has someone to play with who can get creative. It's when you leave Troy isolated up top on his own where he looks awful.

It is very early to judge, but at the moment, while JP looks a massive talent he doesn't look a prolific scorer of goals. This is somewhat born out by the long dry spell he has been on. A 442 where neither striker is really a goal scorer is going to lead to problems.

Beyond that though I think paying Deeney's enormous wages to be forced into playing a system that doesn't necessarily suit the other players is just a continuation of the same problem we have had for the last few years.

Incidentally, QAnon’s big hairy bollix of gullible patriot daftness may be linked tangentially to a Watford legend.

If he is still not fit to play as seems likely from the prematch presser then it seems as though his agent has told him not to play. Fact is i cant see anyone paying the kind of money we expect for him, he would be better off just knuckling down and getting on with it.

Not necessarily - if he has tested positive for Coronavirus, do we know he’s returned a subsequent negative test since? If not, then stands to reason that he’s nowhere near. And if he spent two weeks not training, I’m really not too surprised he’s not included yet.

Not to say you’re wrong though. I don’t see why the club can’t just issue an article that clears up any ambiguity around everyone not currently taking part.

Yes....Ivic gave a very short "he's not in the group" answer when asked about Suarez, and often he voluntarily expands and gives a bit more information but didn't on this occasion. Sounds like he's not even considering him as a player we can use right now, and I'll expect that to be the case until he either goes or when the window shuts and he has no choice but to play for us.

Last week he spoke of Suarez being out with Covid but there is clearly an issue with him as he's still not being included as part of the group.

If I see Suarez breaking quarantine I will grass him up. The £1,000 fine will teach him!

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Ivic said before the Wednesday game that he'd joined the squad and he'd 'make a decision on him tomorrow' which might as well be code for 'not going to play in a million bloody years'.

The club had a photo of some of the squad training and he was in the background of it. This was possibly at the start of this week. So he certainly isn't still isolating (and hasn't been for a good few days)

Had a quick look through the club's twitter but couldn't find it but the photo is probably on here somewhere.

Saw him in a photo with the squad either at the end of last week or start of this week. I presume he's now been removed from the group as he's indicated he wants to leave or is in the process of leaving. Get the best deal and move on!

    Ahh fair enough.

    So it’s either:

    • Still a chance of a move so being kept out by manager/owner/agent - LIKELY
    Or...
    • Ivic demands a certain level of fitness and familiarity with what he wants and Suarez isn’t as that level yet - UNLIKELY

But I still think given how hard we have heard Covid can hit, there’s an outside chance that he just is nowhere near match fitness as a result.

As I’ve said above, quite why the club can’t just clarify the situation of each player sitting out, I’ve no idea.

I suspect that on top of that is also the realisation of us being unable to shift Deeney.

If we can get £15m for Suarez that will exactly cover how much Deeney's outrageous wage packet will cost us for the next 3 years.

Depressing state of affairs that we have to sell our most promising assets to sustain that useless lump, but the natural consequence of how badly run we are.

I'd heard of Qanon, but didn't really know what it was. I've heard most of those theories in one form or another though. It's amazing how susceptible people are to such obvious ******** these days. I suppose it explains why people still listen to WFC statements.

No chance. You’ll be delirious with the rest of us. I’ve been as critical as anyone in recent weeks about Deeney - but that’s all pushed aside tomorrow.

He’s available for selection. If he’s left out and Sinclair is on the bench, we truly are cutting our nose off to spite our face.

If I'm honest, I think if he doesn't start it's a mistake. He's done a lot for this club, but there's one thing he hasn't had the chance to do - Play against this lot. I think he'd be more fired up than the rest of them to finalise his legacy here.

Have people forgotten how rancid Deeney was last year? Genuinely don’t know if he’s any better than Murray or Sinclair at this point, especially with 1 knee and no pre-season.
If putting him in the team edges us closer to having to pay him £100k per week for another year then there’s no way we should even consider it.

If he is fit he is also the best option we have with Perica suspended, Suarez not "in the group" and Glenn Murray just being ****.

Regardless of what I think about him as a long term option, he has to start tomorrow.

When Ivic went through his list of strikers available at the club and he described Quina as one and Sinclair wasn't included.

Don't think he sees Sinclair as a viable option through the middle.

Tbf he’s not. He’s done nothing to deserve a shot at the Championship in his loan moves.

My point would be though that his net contribution of diddly squat for whatever he’s on (£15k per week? £20k?) would be the same as Deeney’s but at a better value.

Sinclair has always been an okay footballer, and he is quick and strong, but he has absolutely no end product either in terms of goals himself or assists.

To be clear - my view is that we should ship Deeney out if we can find a buyer for him. That has been my view for quite a while now. However, as long as the club is already paying him stupid money, it is daft for us not to play him when we have suspensions / "injuries" in that position already.

If DeeKnee is fit and available he has to start. Wages aside he is our best option upfront at the moment. He wants to play and even with one knee still looks better than Minty.

I think he may scrape by as it. He has been at us a fair while and it has to be 1 year under a certain age. We signed him at 18/19. If you look at the squad for the sheffield wednesday game, he is the only one (again unless ive gone mad, always likely) that would come under the category. Pedro may count as well i guess thinking about it.

Does Chalobah count? Isn’t it something like one season at the club under the age of 18? Would his loan count?
