Whilst the clubs communication is shocking at best, I think lying about a positive Covid test would have wider implications if found to be a lie. He will have had to have it noted/track and trace etc etc.

The club wouldn't lie about COVID to explain a player being out. It would be incredibly stupid, for a club which typically doesn't bother giving fans any information at all.
