I’m totally pi55ed off about it, but the fact that is what is happening worries me even more. We haven’t shifted Capoue/Welbeck/Deeney/Pereyra/Deulofeu...we clearly need some funds coming in VERY quickly & GP is not willing to risk any potential saleable asset. Not because he ‘wants to sabotage our chances of promotion back to the PL’, but because the alternative is much worse.
Are you seriously suggesting he would deliberately jeopardise the possibility of getting back to the PL, thereby mitigating the financial loss he’s facing, if it was not necessary to stave off some impending financial disaster?
We don’t need to sell everyone, but we seem to need to sell someone QUICK.
I think the reasons are very obvious & very concerning.

I suspect we should add Capoue to the list and maybe Pussetto, although Caps would be great in this league - all in all that must be £80m off the debt and 25m off the wages

One key difference is they are in the Premier league which helps..

Quite why none of Capoue,Deeney, Sarr or Welbeck cannot be involved is strange.

I think all of them would put in a shift at least even if they have their futures in doubts.

The fact is that we have 4 points from 2 far from easy games.

If we beat the scum, get something from Reading and Derby then it's a pretty decent start. If we do that without playing our best players then Ivic and the owners will be proved correct in their approach.

I think things will change after the transfer deadline. Those players still here will all want to play and the youngsters will have benefited from a few more games.

I'm probably overly optimistic but I think we could then have a strong and deep blend of experience and youth in the squad that can really challenge at this level.

The next 4 weeks will reveal a lot imho.

Joao Pedro clearly has value. Why is he playing? Why the inconsistency?

FWIW I’m not suggesting Pozzo would deliberately sabotage himself - that would be illogical. I just think it’s the latest in a long chain of poorly thought out strategy and poor decision making, and in the case of a chunk of the players also symptomatic of the toxic atmosphere he has created over many years.

Remember the old days of no transfer windows? Anyone could be sold up to the end of March, I think. I think there’d be some borderline breakdowns on here if that were still the case.

Again, we aren't going out of our way to sell promising youngsters, stop being dramatic, we have put a value on the players which we'd sell for. If we were going out of way, they'd be gone already, simple as that. Every player has a value and it's also if the player really wants to be here.

You've listed Pereyra, Deeney, Deulofeu and Welbeck. One is injured currently, one has a career plagued with injury and won't go for much at all, Deeney is recovering from injury - and has said he wants to get back to training and play against the scum if possible though admits the future is unclear, and Pereyra rumours have gone a little silent, but again I can't see him going for big money.

Realistically this window we aren't going to get a lot for Deulofeu in his current state, Pereyra would be around 10m or so, Deeney wouldn't go for much and nor would Welbeck, main thing would be the saving on wages. We've got two holes to fill, one is the loss of match day revenue, and two is the loss of PL revenue. We need upfront cash, and I doubt that £40m is all upfront, especially in this climate - £30m might be at best, so we still have some way to go, depending on the situation with wages (like relegation wage drops etc). The club has borrowed up to the max, and there's a lot of people slating the owners who are in a lose lose situation. If they don't sell players and we go bankrupt they'll be labelled as crooks, if we sell players and stay financially sound, they'll be labelled as unambitious and looking to sell. Personally, I think they're doing alright at the moment, a lot of players are still here and there isn't a panic fire sale as yet, but to me they need to be judged after the windows have closed.

All I can say is if he stays and plays this Suarez better be good after all the hype!

Let's hope we get to find out.

But any value he has is not as high as Sarr & Suarez, & his wages will not be as high as the ‘old Prem lads’...less chance of sufficient benefit in shifting him.
I still think the ‘flawed strategy’ you see is evidence of potential financial meltdown being too close for comfort.

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that Pedro's agent was in fairly soon after the end of last season to talk to the Pozzo's. I can only assume there were assurances given on his playtime and Pedro committed to at least see out the rest of the year with us. There's been very little rumours on him and his agent isn't tweeting comments about him or similar.

Yep. First on the climbing frame and a Capri Sun and doesn't have to play Kiss Chase with Deeney.

I can get why Sarr hasn't featured yet, he came back late from holidays and quarantined. They might not want to rush him back in case a bid of 40m+ does come in/ensure he's fully match ready.

Deeney is probably close to match fitness if he wants to stay. Welbeck and Capoue I think is very much up to them. I can't see Ivic bothering with them unless they're 100% committed.

Reasons to at least have them on the bench.

If players really want to leave then it's a chance for them to be in the shop window and impress.

Capoue's agent has said he is happy to stay. I don't really see why he isn't playing.

Its not like he is a prized asset like Sarr.

Agreed. He's not going to bring in much of a transfer fee. Ok, wages will be high, but we've got to retain a few high earners. We must allow for that. We're paying him now anyway.....we're paying them all, so we've got to play them why they are here.

We're only hurting ourselves by taking this approach of not playing good players. It's just crazy.

Haven't seen anything from his agent to be honest, but if that's the case then it is a little bizarre unless the Valencia rumours turned his head, or there's an issue like his wages are too much. Caps is one I want to stay as he would fit the system very well and should dominate this league. Has he been seen in any training photos?

Reason why I think Welbeck hasn't been seen is his contract I believe has a fairly large appearance fee in it.

Ultimately all these threads seem to come down to an argument between two groups:

    1. Those who think that over 10 years the Pozzos have improved us because we are not on the verge of bankruptcy and they have improved the ground who think that the Pozzos make more good decisions than bad; and

    2. Those who think that despite what the Pozzo's have done in the past are concerned because we are in this current situation because of their consistently ***** decision making over the last three years.

Personally I don't think it is that they are unambitious as I know they are constrained by finances. I just think they are nowhere near as good at this transfer business as they think they are.

Yeah I don't disagree there. I think they've had some fantastic deals, and some very crap ones to, but I can't name a club off the top of my head who aren't in a similar boat. Just a thought on Capoue - Wasn't he injured at the end of last season, and therefore might be recovering still?

But do they think they are? My main observation is it’s a certain chunk of our fan base and some of our media cheerleaders who have spent years constantly banging on about how genius/great/unique the Pozzo approach is, not Gino himself.

Your number 1 description is a bit stingy too I’d say. There have been plenty of on-field highlights and achievements since 2013 to earn Pozzo goodwill too.

Unverified claims that he only had one year left on his deal and the usual crew will be claiming it is fantastic book balancing business as first choice striker Glenn Murray gets the run around by a plumber and a teacher at Rodney Parade.

I think it's really important we keep this guy, along with Sarr and Capoue.

With the pending arrival of T-E, that would sort out our defence, apart from the obvious LWB vacant position. If we kept Caps, then I'd say our midfield would be sorted, and if we kept Suarez and Sarr, we'd be good for promotion I would say.

That's also including selling Deeney, Welbeck, Pereyra, Doucoure, Estupinan & Deulofeu which should raise around £75m-80m.

Maybe it could just work, but we have to keep at least two of our good strikers or else I cannot see we'd have enough goal threat to go up.
