I’m against piss poor efforts that get co-opted into the Xmas canon like Stay Another Day just because it has a bell(end) or two on it.

Step Into Christmas is a banger, the one with Ed Sheeran can get in the bin.

Did you know of the 70 Christmas number ones in the history of the charts, only 12 have been Christmas songs?

And two of those (Mary’s Boy Child and Band Aid) had more than one version reach the top, so it’s actually only 9 different songs!

As I write, it looks like being 13 this year as the brilliant Last Christmas (twice previously a belated number one but never at Christmas week) is leading the charts, with Sam Ryder’s festive track only 40 units behind at number 2. Mariah and the Pogues are also in the midweek top five, so it seems certain Friday's Christmas Number One will be a festive offering.

Love the bit where he lifts that ticket above the piano that says "Watford FC". Legend.

I love nearly all the Christmas songs. Even recent additions to the cannon, like Underneath the Tree and Santa Tell Me (by Jeremy Clarkson and Ariola Grande Frappuccino, respectively)

I don't mind the Christmas songs it's just that they start mid November and won't stop until Christmas day and there seems to be just Wham! Shakey and Mariah on a never ending loop .

How about forgotten Christmas songs you don't hear that often ?

Run DMC : Christmas in Hollis , im sure Thin Lizzy did one ?

Thin Lizzy did a Christmas tune with the Sex Pistols under the title of The Greedies.

Which is the plot to Nick Hornby’s terrific novel (and film) About a Boy the main character of which has inherited the rights to a Christmas song, meaning he never has to work, a song he loathes and he moans about how he seems to hear it earlier each year.

Trevor Nelson played Christmas in Hollis last night!

As a huge St Etienne fan, I’m always sad I Was Born On Christmas Day (with Tim Burgess from the Charlatans) isn’t played more.

East 17 was a Christmas Number One but has no actual link to Christmas so it’s not included in my earlier post about a festive track only making it to Number one at Xmas on 12 occasions.
