    A wingers isn't the priority

Playing 3 behind a lone striker with Zarate, Pareyra, Hughes, Cleverly and Capoue leave little room for an out and out winger.

A couple of forwards are much more important at the moment

The rumours are all coming from some bullcrap Turkish rumours site, and even then they are just saying that Besiktas have only made initial contact with his representatives and are trying for a loan with option to buy rather than straight-up purchase - hardly a done deal, and could just be a Besiktas puff piece.

Huh?! Only Zarate out of that lot is really suited for playing anywhere but in the middle of an attacking midfield three. We are short of quality in the attacking "wide" spots, whether you want to call them wingers or attacking wide midfielders (Markovic is basically either, if there is even much of a difference)...

Berghuis is is a better bet than Grosicki because we already own him and he's not worth £9m.

The three behind won't play particularly wide. They may drift wide when we have he ball but I doubt they will play as out and out wingers. Doing that would just leave the 2 defensive midfielders exposed on the counter attack.

Cleverly has played as a wide player before, so has Hughes, Pareyra, Success, Berghuis and Amrabat.

If we don't sign a wide man I'm sure that we'll cope with what we have. Not signing 2 forwards could be an issue

Don't see the appeal with Markovic particularly, think he's been disappointing every time I've watched him. Especially at Liverpool he couldn't hit a barn door.

Grosicki is better, think the Hull fans will tell you that, although neither are really a step up from what we have.

Zarate, Berghuis, Amrabat and Success should all be staying this summer (Amrabat can go), so ideally we need an additional two wingers, Carrillo looks decent but unlikely now. Unfortunately I can see our next targets being even more of a gamble then the previous selection but hopefully I'm wrong!

Amrabat couldnt cross a road. Rarely beats a man without fouling him and is around 30. If we can get a younger player and get rid of Amrabat then job done. We need pace and Markovic has pace. He caused us problems in the away game with his pace.

Completely disagree, Silva is known for playing as wide as possible, his wingers are encouraged to have chalk on their boots so to speak. This also looks the case with this pre season matches so far.

think it is safe to say that Zarate is the possible wide player, also you might see Pereyra there but only if there are injuries.

Success and Berghuis would be preferences but feel we will sign one winger with a bit more pace about them.

Certainly will not see any of Hughes, Cleverley or Capoue playing in a wide position under Silva.

I'm a bit worried at how poor Success has been for months, so feel we definitely need at least one winger

Well said that man. If you couldn't see that he had set his team up to play this way yesterday then your buffoons.

I would prefer Pereyra in the centre of the three but if push comes to shove any of them are capable of playing a wide role. Bar Capoue.

Because playing with two full-backs and two defensive midfielders is leaving yourself exposed?!?! Clueless...

Is he a better bet? Whatever you think of Quique and Mazzarri, Berghuis has had two chances here already and hasn't been able to nail down a place. There's no questioning the talent but is he cut out for the Premier League? I'm not so sure. Plus I don't think he has the pace Silva is looking for in the wide areas.

  13. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

Yes. Because neither QSF or Mazzarri played a style that suited his game. Silva does by the looks of it. And for the aforementioned reasons that we already own him and he won't cost us £9m.

That may be the case and he may well stay but I personally don't think he'll be here come September. And £9m is peanuts, I don't know why that's even an issue for you.

Berghuis can deliver a cross (proved it last season) and I disagree with some because Amrabat can beat a man but his delivery is pants. If you could fuse the two together into one winger we would be fine. Markovic and Grosicki have similar shortcomings. I expect at least one winger in but Success did much better yesterday and lasted 90 minutes. That alone is cause for hope Silva will sort this one out. COYHS

Because to Watford, £9m isn't peanuts. You only have to see how many transfers we've made over that amount to see that.

Agree. Yet to be convinced about this one.

I know a WHU fan who was watching our February game where Success choked at the late winner. His thoughts on Success' overall performance were that he 'will be in Liga2 within a couple of years' - and WHU have seen plenty of those over the years.

I have a feeling he's right and wouldn't be surprised if Success departs on loan to the Championship or is sold back to Spain by Sept 1. We just cant guarantee the game time to develop the confidence and the game awareness he desperately needs if he is to be a top level player. I think he's playing catch-up already with players of his age.

Indeed, Hull never got caught on the counter attack last year did they

Must be on a fair wage. Coupled with a lack of decent performances since signing for Liverpool he's proving hard to shift so dropping the price seems inevitable.

Or maybe he's just not that good?

Could be some very shrewd business if they can pick him up so cheaply. If there's one thinge Rodgers could do was pick out future stars o_O
All he needs to do is learn how to kick a ball properly and we are quids in.

I have to agree whenever I have seen Markovic three things come to mind - poor first touch, terrific pace admittedly if he gets ball under control but little end product. Would much prefer Ghezzal who is technically much better. Scores and makes goals for others and he is FREE. Second choice is Carrillo for his better all round game and experience. As a winger could be an upgrade on Amrabat but is he the answe? Happy of course to be proved wrong but at a time when most players are edging up in value there is a reason why he is stuck in reverse gear. Reckon if Silva can't do the business nobody can.

I don't disagree, but would caution against getting too excited about a free transfer. Doesn't that just mean that the agent can hoik up the signing-on fee?

If it is common knowledge that they will sell to us for 8-12m - why would Fiorentina offer 16? - sounds like bollox to me

Where is it common knowledge that they would sell to us for £8-12m though? The fact that they have not done so yet suggests it's more likely that they actually wouldn't do that.

Agreed. Whilst I understand and enjoy why people share rumours and suggestions on here and post links to various media outlets, too many take what they read as totally reliable. WO and Herefordshire Mercury just re-hash stories from elsewhere these days and it's clear they have no real sources within the club. Sadly, twitter is the most reliable form of info these days, even if there is a higher percentage of nonsense on there too.

Klopp has openly stated that Markovic can move on. But he'd be mad to quote prices openly and I'm not sure a manager or club has openly leaked an asking price to the press - unless there is a release clause.
