Maybe but this seems to have come from that Lou Orn bloke rather than someone with any authority.

It has come from more than him. I’m no great ITK but I do know this is genuine.

Nevermind standing still while those around us go forward, we’re actively regressing. I will join in the childish posting of the ‘make the squad stronger’ quote on Twitter if this one comes to pass

If Gosling happens what is the betting Pozzo gives him a ******ous 3 and a half year contract?

Not very impressive stats on "Wiki"

Very underwhelmed if this is the standard of player we are looking to bring in, it's a NO from me :(

Again, don’t shoot the messenger...but got a text (from the same person who confirmed Gosling, Pochettino’s son) who has said ‘keep an eye’ on a move for Jephcott from Plymouth. And one other but he didn’t have a name.

To add to this - going from £30m for Ismailia Sarr to L1 Luke Jephcott is some leap, even taking all factors into consideration. The club is an utter mess behind the scenes I think, with little direction and ideas being thrown about with zero plan. Needs a strong-willed person to grab hold of the situation - and in mute-Gino, slippery-suit Duxbury, and Giraldi Mark II, we don’t have that. And any hope of a coach who could be that voice is diminished because those 3 wouldn’t allow it.

A rudderless ship with uninterested or ill-qualified people at the helm. Buckle up.

Called Jephcott ages ago. Therefore I’m ITK.

Although Leedsorn might have said it before me. Either way, we’re both ITK.

Going off the other name being mentioned

Obviously I would like it to be Siliki, but knowing how cheap we are.

Alex Mowatt contract is up in the summer as has been mentioned on here. He Shirley has to be someone we’re in for.

The other I wouldn’t be surprised we’re in for is Ryan Gauld. Currently playing in Liga Nos for bottom of the league side Farense. Got 4 goals and 4 assists in 15 games. Contract is also up in the summer. Bit of a jack of all trades type of player, although mainly an attacking midfield. Still only 25, but would honestly be a decent piece of business.

Thanks Burnsy - always appreciate you passing on the info you hear. Assuming the info is correct / all the planned deals come to pass, I guess it massively depends on who the fourth player is as to whether this moves us forward at all.

Pochettino and Jephcott are young players with potential. Can't say I know enough about them to know whether they will be able to make any kind of immediate impact.

Gosling feels like a squad filler. If it's an 18 month contract then there isn't too much risk. But the inevitable 3.5 year contract will be evidence that we are not learning lessons.

So the fourth player needs to be capable of having an immediate impact and address the specific and very obvious needs of the team. I have my doubts.

This is all assuming we don't just sign no one and get Leventhal to trot out the same old party line.

I remember when he was supposed to be the Scottish Messi, and was lauded for choosing to go abroad to develop - possibly to Sporting, though my memory might be hazy there. A shame things didn't quite work out like that, but at least he's managed to forge a career.

I don't know what's happened to me but from being the biggest misery guts on here about our prospects this window, I've got rather excited this morning and convinced myself that we're going to pull a couple of decent moves out of the bag.

Can someone administer the dose of reality I very much need?

  17. Chumlax

Well, we've been linked with three moves in the press, two in in midfield, and neither are decent by any real stretch of the imagination. On top of that, one is entirely dependent on the transfer dealings of at least two other clubs, including, most importantly, the one that he is owned by, who are notoriously quite **** at transfers.

    Consider it administered.

“Despite a number of options on deadline the day, with the pending return of Quina, Perica and Success and the emergence of Phillips the club feel there is exciting competition for places all over the pitch as Troy Deeney attempts to lead us back to the Premier League.

Bringing in Jephcott would be fairly decent. 20 years old and the top scorer in L1 this season, with 40% of Plymouth’s goals. @Markoa$ - I think you and I have similar suggesting methods of going on whoscored/Transfermarkt and combing through who has some encouraging statistics. Jephcott certainly does. The knowledgeable guys on NTT20 podcast also recommended him as the kind of player we should be looking for.

I get that sometimes signing players from lower leagues is uninspiring but I don’t quite get why those who were/disappointed that we didn’t sign EFL talent like Whiteman or Pickering would be underwhelmed by Jephcott. Would probably be a better, more rational acquisition than Vydra.

In midfield we’re a total mess though. No strategy. I really can’t wrap my head around it. And it’s not just that we’ve got no money. The age and position profile of all the players were being linked with are totally off: do we want a defensive midfielder, an all-round box to box type player or someone more progressive? Do we want a young loanee or someone to come and add some experience? Now Chalobah linked away - are we going to suddenly be in for 3 midfielders?

Beyond saying ‘it ain’t happening’ not sure what any of us can say to bring you back to reality!

    But yeah, it ain’t happening.

(Who would be classed as ‘decent moves’? Maybe I’m being greedy but given the aims of this season, and the real need to upgrade a couple of positions in the side with players of genuine quality who will start every week - I don’t class Gosling, Longstaff, Jephcott, Pochettino in that bracket at all...Vydra and Siliki were the only ones I saw doing the stated aim. And they ain’t happening either)

The reason that I find it so hard to believe that Leicester could actually be in for Chalobah is that they are noted for having a functioning scouting department?

Glad to be moving to NYC next weekend (provisionally still - damn covid!) - can finally put all these bloody transfer window disappointments behind me and get fully into the Draft-system instead and get excited about who the Bengals draft from 'Ol Miss' without actually giving a toss.

You are correct, he did go to sporting and was basically loaned out. Sporting made lots of money with loan fees, before he joined Farense. Still only 25, he’s managed to have somewhat of a decent career in Portugal, albeit perhaps sporadic.

Indeed! Remember the injury time winner in the mud versus Mansfield? Ploughing through the mud with about 3 defenders hanging onto him as he belted it home from the edge of the box. Mind you, he could only ever manage about 15 minutes, but he scored some crucial goals that season.

Almost 52 years ago-just about !! You are right -him and Barry upfront together a few times-Rodney scored the only goal when we beat Bristol Rovers the following saturday. I think we signed him from L*t*n-he got 3 match winning goals from his 5 goal tally that season
