Is Marco Silva all that?

That's news to me. We were in it for the first 10 minutes then that was it. We could still be playing and wouldn't have scored. Wilf being sent off against the scummers cost us the cup.

No chance Everton will go down now, I’ve got nothing against them and I hope they don’t. I don’t really blame them for approaching Silva, but it should’ve been one approach and when we said no that should’ve been that. We are lucky that we have very level headed owners who don’t rely on one particular manager to succeed (odd that the rest of the world see is as the exact opposite) but Everton are no different to most other teams in the PL, most don’t have a long term plan, look at WH or WBA, were they thinking ahead when they sacked Bilic and Pulis?

Allardyce would be a very good appointment for them.

To be fair to them though, although it ended up badly, they took the same approach over Koeman. Went to Southampton who said no, went again and were told no....but they persevered eventually getting Koeman to request the move. That was all under Moshiri’s watch so you can’t really blame him for thinking he could do it again to a club of similar stature. Where they have got this horribly wrong is three-fold. 1.) Planning - they sacked Koeman without any kind of plan of going forward. 2.) Timescale - I cannot understand why it has taken them 6 weeks to get to this stage and still end up with Allardyce. It smacks of a boardroom split where the owner wants one thing and the chairman another thing entirely. 3.) Arrogance - the arrogance to not be talking to two or three managers at the same time instead thinking they would get Silva and that would be it.

Moshiri, whilst rich, is playing at running a football club and is looking far more ‘Tony Fernandes/Vincent Tan’ than the tycoon that he wishes to come across as.

Not yet, we're searching for a big enough curtain to hide him under before the unveiling.

Off topic but echo that it was a good evening. Our team came 4th so we missed the chance to have our picture taken with those 2.

  9. Is it true that the team that won win it every year and that they aren't even Watford fans? Is that why they were booed?

Reckon we should definitely go after Pickford when Everton get relegated.

I can't stand the barsteward and hate him almost as much as Everton after this disgraceful epic.

I think that is the case. They certainly have one guy ( clearly very clever/skilled in quizzes) who others tell me hires himself out . As soon as we saw he was in their team again you knew the game was up. None of us compete in any other quiz as I suspect is the case with most teams. Maybe more Watford focused rounds might help tip the balance in future

  13. Everton now looking at Fonseca from Shaktar. Will probably only leave if Shaktar get knocked out of CL, game on 6 Dec. Unsworth reaches 10 games on 7 December; if he's still in charge for Limassol Skybet should pay out. Currently offering 25/1.
    Just saying...

Looks like we will go for it each match. So will continue to concede plenty against the 'top sides' and look to outplay/outscore the others.
I don't mind that philosophy because most of our defence needs better players.

You won't have to wait very long to find out

If he's bringing Sammy Lee as part of his backroom staff (as is rumoured), you'll probably find a lot of amusement on the Everton forums and Twitter tomorrow

This would be the straw that broke the camel's back

Personally this is where I draw the line

Our game tonight is further proof of how daft Everton's pursuit of Silva was - as bringing in a coach who sets out to attack the opposition regardless of who they are, using fast, speedy players whilst leaving huge spaces in behind and conceding a lot of goals is hardly what they need right now!! If they criticised Martinez for being poor defensively, I wonder how long they'd have given Marco?!

This is a good point and was my first reaction when we were linked with him, but when you look at what he did at Hull last season - he showed that you can get results down at that end of the table by playing his way

Ultimately though, I think Allardyce is the more prudent appointment for the situation we currently find ourselves in

I'm going to hate every minute of it, and I hope we dispense with his services as soon as the season is over, but I grudgingly accept that Allardyce is the best available candidate for the particular needs we have at the moment

    Sammy Lee though...

Do you think we do any defending drills during training? I guarantee Spurs will score four or more on Saturday. As I’ve said before, Silva must have Kevin Keegan’s old coaching manual .

I was a bit disappointed with Silva's comments focusing on the Rojo penalty incident.

Really, we should not be relying on favours from officials to make it 10 v 11. I thought I was reading a Mazzarri post-match, as this is the type of excuse he regularly came out with.

It was clear there is a real softness and naivety about us, and this is exposed when we play the top sides. We gave them far too much space in dangerous areas. You can get away with that against the likes of Newcastle and West Ham, but when you play a top six side they will destroy you.

Huddersfield may not get as many points as us this season, but they play these clubs a lot better than us. They do this by closing space and getting in their face.

The league table shows we are doing well, so there's no massive concern, but it's all down to our away form. At home, we are quite weak. Only two sides have lost to us all season, Arsenal in the last minute and West Ham, even though they created 4 clear cut chances against us.

Silva has to find a way to make us resilient at home, because if we only had home form to go on this season, we'd be in trouble.

The usual way for success is to be strong at home, and pick up whatever you can away. My concern is if our away from falters, then we do not have a fearsome home reputation to rely on.

Yesterday actually reminded me of the West Ham game. We seemed to approach it in the exact same way and play the same way, slightly lazy and sloppy. The differences was they have world class players and where WHU failed Man Utd succeeded.

There's a lot of crap posted on Twitter - but probably the quickest and simplest way to see the difference that Silva has made to the team is to watch this 30 second clip from one of our games last season: https://twitter.com/OrigamiNinja79/status/813388075665686528

In comparison to what we're capable of producing now, I guess, is the main reason why defeats such as last night don't seem as awful as they normally would do.
