Is Marco Silva all that?

I have to laugh when someone arguing that our owner is working from a long term plan mentions Billy McKinley in the same post. Surely evidence that even st. Gino is prone to a little bit of panic with managers

  2. I wouldn't call it panic.

Mckinley had the credentials, and after Zola and Beppe a British manager might have appealed. Oscar had recommended him, he was already here, everything looked right.

McKinley screwed it up himself imo by playing his 2 games negatively and appearing happy with a draw. Not what Gino was looking for.

I reckon it was something along the lines of that there isn't an Italian translation of caretaker manager. Probably.

I don't think it was panic, I suspect it was just a case of Gino doing something based on someone else's recommendation and not based on data from his own trusted staff.

Seeing the backroom telemetry and the team's tactics made him realise his mistake sharpish.

They've interviewed the Shakhtar manager according to Sky. What a joke that club is. They still can't make their minds up.

  8. Yeah. But deep down in our hearts (many of us anyway) we're kind of expecting it to happen!

For Everton, it would, if it happened, be literally the end of an era, no longer able to boast their proud top flight run as anything but history. And whatever they go on to do after, things will never be the same again.

I can't see the BFS taking them down though.

Bless him, now clinging to the hope that Big Sam is somehow a smokescreen for Silva, who is only taking this long to appoint because he's crawling on his hands and knees to Merseyside.

That's exactly what he was, a placeholder and he probably even knew it ... but of course he still will have been disappointed not to stay after two fairly decent results.

It turns out the Silva chase was over a while ago

    The papers were playing catch-up

That "three man shortlist" which Jim White mentioned a few days ago appears to have been Allardyce, Fonseca and Martin O'Neill

    *shudders*

We spoke to all of them over the last week or so, but Allardyce is the one they've settled on. In different circumstances Fonseca would be a really interesting appointment, there are no circumstances I would accept Martin O'Neill as our manager

Allardyce is the right man for this rather desperate moment, sad as it is to say. He'll be taking training tonight, which has been rearranged for 6.30pm

Apologies if it says it in the article, but I believe they will need to pay £2m to Palace or, in other words, one enormous glass of wine!

Yes. I think that was exactly it. But I still find it weird that Gino acted precipitately rather than taking the advice from the backroom staff first and then had to backtrack. Billy was already there to hold the fort and the knee-jerk haste to appoint him as the permanent No.1 was very un-Gino like.

  14. Gino did get it wrong, but he recognised it, held his hands up to the mistake, acted decisively, and fixed it.

Everton have been floating along without plan or direction for 5 weeks.

    No comparison.

I think Everton are on the verge of going the same way as Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, etc etc - a ghost of the club it once was, destined to spend all eternity wandering the lonely corridors of the Championship howling at the Premier League

Please god let you be right. Their long stay in the top division is all they have to cling on to now. A relegation would devastate that club, and I think they'd plunge down the leagues like a hanged man.

Karma finally redressing the balance for them for cheating us out of the cup. Hopefully we'll hammer one of the nails into their coffin on 24 Feb.

It's not all bad, there's some really good away days in the Championship and less games are moved for TV, you also have a lot more games under the lights, and if you're lucky, you might get a big team in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Granted they've not covered themselves with glory with this pursuit of our manager and a handful of their fans have posted some stuff that reflects pretty badly on them as individuals (we're not immune to special individuals either) but there are many clubs I would rather see drop out of the division over Everton.

Generally I've always found them to be a friendly opponent, decent fans and until recently, well-run club. If we get to choose, I wouldn't miss Palace, West Ham or Stoke.

We do get to choose, right?...

I thing I did like about the Championship was the larger number of midweek matches to help accommodate the 8 extra fixtures. Tonight is our only scheduled home midweek league match.

I don’t know how many of you have bothered but please go over to that Everton Forum (GOT). Just a week ago they were giving it the whole ‘Watford are tin-pot no-marks and if we want their manager, we’ll take their manager. And they will bend over and take it. Remember when the Southampton fans came on saying we won’t get Koeman?! HAHAHAHA! Watford are small-time and we’ll go in slow and dry when we finally make our move. Elton John, 1984...blah blah blah.’

Fast forward a few days and they are in full-in meltdown mode over Fat Sam, with many of them now backtracking on their ‘Big Club’ claims and saying they’re going down as a corrupt outfit who will be playing in a half empty stadium in the near future.

Sorry ‘toffeeblue9’. You’ve proved that every set of fans has a decent element. But most of that lot deserve everything they have coming their way for their attitudes over the past week.

May I suggest a mass invasion of their Sam Allardyce thread?

The score was 0-2. The ref. didn't give a foul. If he had have done it would've been 0-1. Get over it.

He had zero experience of managing and was probably bought in just to coach/ caretake but Gino forgot the tell the media, I'm sure no experienced manager would have ever signed such a loose and easily breakable contract as he must have done. His 4 points from 2 games just an unexpected bonus which of course then made his sacking a little awkward.

At 1-0 we were still very much in it but that second really took the wind from our sails.

Everton wont go down, they'll end up mid table. Far worse teams over the course of a season will end up below them and they have a stabilising manager now.

We could easily lose our next 2 games. If Everton win theirs they are 3 points behind us.

Fat Sam is actually a very good manager. What he did with palace last season was a miracle. As soon as he left they re back down int eh same place as when he joined them.

He ll stop the goals being shipped and get Rooney, Sigurdson, playing well. I expect to see you top 10 easily as outisde the top 6 everyone is very beatable.

Even if you sack Fat Sam in the summer and get someone more progressive it ll still cost less than what Moshiri was willing to pay for Silva, and you may be able to get someone better than Silva in summer if you finish high enough.

The only reason I'm correcting this is that it was one of the questions at the Watford FC quiz & curry night last week. A good evening by the way - Will Hughes and Aidy Mariappa in attendance (Aidy is tiny for a CB!). One of the teams included Shaun Wallace AKA The Dark Destroyer from The Chase. Like going for a kickabout and Luther joins in. His team didn't win.

I really think that being exposed as a chiseling shyster and getting the sack by the FA has blown Fat Sam's brains out. No doubt at all that he'll take Everton down
