I said it in the match day thread. This doesn’t really make any sense to me. 10 years ago yes, but the PL has changed, outside the top 6 there isn’t a whole lot of difference. Everton have famously been ‘best of the rest’ for a while. In that whole time they’ve failed to infiltrate and consolidate in the top 4/6. In the meantime the rest of the league have been getting better and better and closing the gap. Now they are just another team. They’ve got a few more fans and will have a better stadium, but that’s the only difference between us and them. Right at this moment I’d take our squad over theirs and definetly our owners. Surely for an ambitious manager the aim has to be to manage inthe champions league and to be going for a major league title? He won’t have a better chance of doing that with Everton than he will with us, yet whatever he does with Everton will always have to be significantly better than it would be with us to be considered a success.

 

Youre forgetting something. And that's the transfer kitty. Everton managers are usually given hundred and fifty odd million from owner to sort the team out. If they don't they are gone usually. In our case the Pozzos have a model buying players that are seen in the main as a bargain with the potential of being sold later on.
If I was a manager and head coach I would rather have the Everton model. So I don't blame him for having a go there.

Thats only a recent thing though isn’t it? Even as recent as just this season? I though Everton we’re famous for never spending a huge amount of money hence why Moyes gets so much credit for his time there as he did so well with relatively little money. Obviously this year they’ve spent a lot, but they’ve spent it badly and they also took a lot of revenue in.

Edit: a quick google shows their net spend ahead of last season was amongst the lowest in the league.

might be true. And Silva would need some reassurances of a transfer kitty before he commits to moving. Otherwise I think he'll stay. But at the moment he's not been given the opportunity to talk to them.

I find the hypocrisy of some football fans baffling. If we were in the bottom 3 some would be shouting for him to go; showing no loyalty to him. Yet if he doesn't say he loves Watford after 11 games, then he's a ...(insert any insult).

If he's not trying to get out of his contract then he has done nothing wrong.

As someone who works on 6-12 month contracts, I can categorically say that I would not leave a project for double the money until my role had finished unless people above me had lied about the realistic completion date or some other fundamental working practice.

I'd much rather maintain a good reputation in my industry.
