Can't help thinking Deeney should have let rip instead of trying to cross to Success...need to rewatch that looked like the biggest chance to win thrown away.
Does anyone else agree that Gray scored too early, placing undue protracted pressure on the defensive types?
Retrospectively of course but if Rowan The Ref had been competent and we had been clinical it would be academic.
As an area I just never found it that appealing, just my view I guess. @RookeryDad That is more or less my point. But again I need to iterate just how tired we looked second half. Fitness levels have been excellent so far so maybe it was an off day? I’m not overly worried, perhaps it’s sonething they can address. If we dominate the midfield and press high against Arsenal it’s going to take one slip and they are in. I’d rather us sit deep and try to play on the counter. Get rid of the new formation and perhaps stick to a more defensive one.
It is what it is, some weeks we'll edge the close ones, other weeks we'll drop points where we could have won. Perhaps a little concerning about the team tiring in the second half, but overall we're still looking better than last season, looking forward to 8 months of what will probably be mid-table mediocrity
No one is saying it's not. It's understandable there is disappointment surrounding today's result though, considering how it went down.
I'm not sure we tired as much as a couple of players were guilty of dropping their level. Joka changed things as we know and it is expected that the home team will have a period of pressure. I never thought Fulham looked like scoring, until they scored! Good teams are clinical.Today we were not,
It's most definitely south west London. The Thames doesn't run west east perfectly dissecting London. That was two points lost, not a "great point" as the NBC pundit said. Mawson wasn't an inspired sub by the Joka. The guy was nothing but a liability in the Fulham defence and on a yellow very close to a second. Could have, should have buried that before half time. Disappointed tonight.
My thoughts...Capoue, the best player on the pitch today by a mile. We always look a lesser side when Hughes goes off. Bobby P looked off the pace today. It’s a shame we’re a side who only perform well in one half of each match. Happy with the point though. Onwards and upwards Come on watford
It seemed in the last 2-3 games before today we attacked and sat back in waves. Press, sit back. Press, sit back. Today it felt like we went hell for leather for the whole of the first half. Maybe we sensed a second goal would kill them off so didn't want to ease up. But that definitely seemed to tell on 60-65 minutes. Fulham on the other hand sat back, soaked up all our pressure, and had much more energy and stamina towards the end. I can't keep saying it enough. 3 subs on 60-65 minutes was vital to holding on to that game IMO. I think the players gave their all and I have no complaints whatsoever with them. They were all brilliant. Just knackered. I hope they recover well enough for next week as spurs then arsenal could really hit us if we're off the pace.
Tell you what, it'll make a hell of a difference when we can call on Deulofeu and Chalobah. We have good players but these two are next-level. Maybe we'll be able to perform for 90 minutes.
We are bound to put the B team boys out vs Spuds B team in the cup. At least it will give the boys a full rest before Arse.
Normal to feel disappointment after anything other than a Watford win, but this was a decent result, and it's still a great start.
You really can't score too early, its about getting the next which didn't happen, usually the first is the hardest to score!
I feel this is probably the best "team" since we were promoted. I am really enjoying how we are playing right now. Today was two dropped points though. We were so dominant and in control in the first half. It was almost too easy to create chances. We have to take these, and as I suspected, we just lack that little bit of quality just in the final third. We need a player who is more clinical in our ranks, or else we will not always get the result our play deserves. I mentioned last week that I felt it is now time to bring in Kiko for Janmaat. Unfortunately it's another goal which you have to look at Janmaat. The second goal against United and now today he has been found wanting. I'm not too disappointed though, as I can see we are going to be hard to beat this season. 13 points, probably should even be 16 points considering how good we've been this season. Only for 15 minutes against United have we underperformed. Gracia is doing a brilliant job, and we will improve in the attacking third once Deulofeu returns, so that's something to look forward to. Arsenal next week, could be defeat as it's Arsenal, but as we all know, they could be perfect side for us to really rough up and get something from that game. After our first 3 games I thought the next 6 would be harder. Well we've picked up 4 points from the first 3 of those, and should really have had 7. We are in a good place right now, but we have to continue these top class performances and not be distracted by the hype.
Disappointing not to win, but looking at it holistically we were by far the better team and should have been out of sight by half time. Some poor decision making at critical times cost us, they definitely should have been down to 10 men, and arguably we could/should have had a penalty (personally, I didn't think it was at the time but it'll be interesting to see replays). Couple it with what was for the most part a pretty good performance and I'm not too unhappy. I reckon Fulham have enough about them to stay up.
Cracking game! Mitrovic a handful all day, Vietto should've scored too. I don't like Ben Foster.. not sure why but I preferred Gomes. Kabasele excellent one mistake which proved costly but can be forgiven. Cathcart was actually worse, gave the ball away countless times first half. Etienne Capoue I take my hat off to you, an absolute titan in midfield today. A performance that I didn't know he was capable off. Janmaat shocking - was clear Kiko should've been on 15 mins early - poor from Gracia. Same with keeping Pereyra on so long. All subs done wrong today and seems to be consistent with Gracia but we've still only lost once so I'll keep shtum. Holebas had about 8 set pieces first half, one good delivery out the lot. Doccoure decent but could've played in Deeney and that was a goal Deeney could've played in Gray and then played in Success late on or even just had a shot and that was a goal. Pereyra awful today - got one hard tackle and shied away. No muscle. One pathetic dive in front of our fans late in second half. Gray did really really well, second behind Capoue in MOTM but should've scored a second, hit it straight at the keeper. Two good games now - seems to have found a first touch too!! Success cameos get more promising. Where the hell is Gerard? Badly needed. What's the record for most consecutive unchanged XI? Loved the game - great atmosphere, great football first half couldn't believe it was Watford!! Ultimately two points dropped we should've been 3 up at halftime but if we beat Arsenal next week it all balances out. COYH!
13 Points, 4th, etc. But, in isolation, this was a very poor result. Outplayed them 1st half, but couldn't get another goal. Then very poor in the second half. Crosses and final ball was shocking throughout. Plenty of effort though, but just don't understand why Javia didn't mix it up with the subs much sooner, we had lost our way and looked a bit tired. Fulham deserved their point, in what was a good game. But for me, two points badly lost.
I was thinking more in terms of psycho geography. West London is the epitome of the contemporary affluent, careerist, slightly clenched buttock bourgeoisie. Cosmopolitan, private school obsessed, Remainer heartland. I’m all for it.
Slav's post game Sky interview, sure he's had a whisky or something. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11505312/jokanovic-a-poor-first-half
This was clearly a red card, but I wonder how much coverage it gets. Earlier today, a month after the event, "evil" Capoue's challenge on Zaha was discussed yet again, as if it was worst challenge in football ever. I wonder if this is talked about as much or just slips under the radar and not ever mentioned again.
Fosu-Mensah has apologised to Troy on Twitter, Troy responds with "no hard feelings" etc. I can think of certain players who could learn from this. https://twitter.com/T_Deeney/status/1043510450401562625?s=19
