I think a lot of clubs (including us last summer) see him as a goal-scoring CB and find that very enticing. Not enough scouting done in the fact he’s a poor defender.

To be fair, I don't think he'll start for West Ham, but they do need backup seeing as Rice played CB a few times last season when he's a midfielder by trade

no many players im glad to see the back off, but god i hope this one goes through. this is not out of anything to do with his character or anything, simply because he is indicative of the terrible transfer decisions that got us in this mess in the first place.

all the best, but please jog on craig.

Granted we don't have to pay his wages for a year but the deal doesn't seem as good as it once did. They have an 'option' to buy him but no doubt if they stay up they'll strengthen with a decent CB instead.

I’d like to know the terms of the loan. Maybe an obligation to buy if he meets a number of appearances?

Mind you given this announcement also claims he was a ‘free’ a year ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if we have actually sold him. It’ll be corrected soon.

Sadly doubt they will take up the buying option but who knows ..

Who even writes these statements from the club this summer? Really late notifications on Holebas and Gomes, nothing at all regarding Mariappa, incorrect info given regarding Cucho’s loan, no thanks towards Pearson and now claiming Dawson was a free transfer?! Just odd.

Think this is poor business from the club on the whole. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see him and his wages gone - but a loan with just an option is hardly the most enticing deal ever. Not great work from a supposedly great negotiator...

Another poor deal from the Ponzos

This time next year we’re stuck with this lump again and less parachute payments to pay him with

Yet another one, why let him go on a loan? For the money we get for him, it will cost us that to pay him off next season when he re-joins us in the Championship, which is strange as he was the most 'championship' player I have seen us sign in the last 5 years. Should have just released him and paid him off now.

I only assume, West Ham get this crap and we wipe out the compensation for Ngakia.

******* awful. We let them see how **** he is then we're stuck with him when we're in The Prem. Not that deep overall but starting to lose my patience with The Pozzo's, I just don't get it.

If they could have sold him, he'd be sold. Clearly there wasn't much interest in him.

As it is, we almost certainly got a loan fee, might still sell him (especially if there is a compulsory purchased baked in there), and have likely completely offloaded his wages for a year.

It's a far better result than having him sitting on his backside all year getting paid by us.

he had a couple of decent games for us (and scored an important goal) but nowhere near as consistent as we needed , not sad to seem him go , also would rather we had sold him, but loan better than nothing , if mom one was prepared to stump up the cash probably best thing we could do

Shame we couldn't keep him at Udinese within the network as part of the project in the Pozzo model.

  21. Jumbolina

Pozzo really doesn’t know what he is doing. Just running around in a blind panic making one poor decision after another. I suppose he is under pressure given the financial mess following his poor stewardship but everything is just reactive.

Another one where we do not know all the details.
It could be a good deal for us but we might never know!
A player who thinks he is better than he actually is.
I'm not sad to see him go and hope he never plays for us again.

Terrible deal. I don't understand why they didn't just sell him for £7m. They really don't seem to have a clue. Just tell them it's £7m or nothing and they'd cave. It's not rocket science.

I wonder whether WHU season starts to go pear shaped. Dawson does have previous when it comes to getting teams relegated

guess there was not that much interest in him, well at least its the wages off the books for a year. best of luck craig.

  32. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

Dunno if I'm being reactionary based off a couple of games under very unusual circumstances, I initially had them getting relegated, but seeing as they've just beaten Wolves and Leicester by an aggregate of 7-0, they'll probably be fine. Burnley had a great end to last season, but they really haven't been able to get going at all, their thin squad seems to be catching up with them

That’s why this deal is poor. in order of preference:
    1) Sell him for a fee
    2) loan with obligation to buy
    3) Sell him for nothing
    4) Make use of him in a promotion challenge while still in his “best” year age wise.
    5) loan him with no obligation and be stuck with him in his twilight years

Option (5) just lines up to stuff us. Weakens the squad and kicks the can down the road. Saves wages but we’ve already shed a number of higher earners and had a relatively low premier league wage bill.

I suppose it’s not as bad as the Janmaat contract extension fiasco.

  34. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

Options 1-3 require someone wanting to take him in and pay him what we are paying him. Option 4 requires us to play him ! So we're stuck with 5

  35. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

He’d have played if integrated certainly as rotation option but I guess you don’t agree.

Imagine 2022/2023 with Cathcart, Dawson, Deeney and Capoue all on the books as top earners and in heavy decline. The future is bleak if we don’t go up this year imo.
