Maybe. It just seems extraordinary that a tu Rd like D@wson is even on a prem league clubs radar after his key role in two consecutive relegations

Not quite two consecutive relegations, he managed to squeeze in an underwhelming season in the Championship with West Brom too. Now I'm not saying it's all his down to him, but the season after he left, they conceded 17 goals fewer and were promoted. **** it, it was probably mainly down to him leaving, the useless terd. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Daws.

Really hope this is an indication that we are perhaps close on bringing another CB in.

You are being very unfair, he was our best player last season, any premier club league would be lucky to purchase such a player for under 20 million!

    Lovely.

Rumour is about £3 million. Are we recouping on him? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"West Ham are in advanced talks to sign Craig Dawson", is the yellow banner.

Not seen the £3m price tag though. However, if it is just £3m it's another poor piece of business by the club. We only signed him last season for £5.5m, so it would represent a loss. Combine that with the deal to bring in Welbeck and later Pussetto, it just underlines how bad our decision making was last season, as all these players would have gone the following season. No fee on Pussetto, after a £7m outlay, no fee on Welbeck even though we had a sell on for £5.5m and a £2.5m loss on Dawson.

Ok, I know Pussetto is effectively still our player and the money was transferred between both the Pozzo clubs, but it is still money off Watford's books.

Chasing Sarr all window cost the club a lot more than the £27.5m it took to sign him.

Ah well who cares the PL sucks anyway I was sick of going into at least four games a season not expecting a damn thing or playing teams with one player more expensive than our whole squad sitting on the bench.

Was sick of the stagnating squad too glad to get rid of some, although a bit more of a refresh to the squad would’ve had been nice but likes of Ngakia, Wilmot & Pedro is a good start.

The fact anyone is willing to pay actual money for Craig Dawson cannot be construed as a loss.

I'd have shipped him out for a pack of monster munch to anyone willing to pay his wages.

Useless, old and has a poor attitude. Even better he might contribute to West Ham's relegation, which would be the icing on the cake.

With all the money West Ham spend, it seems unbelievable that they are chasing Dawson, who even if he hadn't downed tools, would not get in ahead of Cathcart, Kabasele and Wilmot now.

While I’m not debating you about his ability - where does this poor attitude thing come from? He asked to leave WBA and also refused to go on a pre-season tour...along with Ben Foster at the time but not sure where it stems from in relation to us. Just seems a popular assumption with nothing to actually base it on.

Good piece of business.i thought he was ok towards the end of last year, but is on high wages and no better than our other defenders. He is a year older, so we were unlikely to recover all the money we spent on him

Kicked up a stink when leaving West Brom when a bit like this season, he had played a part in their downfall and subsequent failure to get promoted.

Also post match (maybe Leicester?) some of the players said he is pretty unbearable when he isn't playing.

His performance at Newport hardly did him any favours.

Bit unfair to judge him on what he did at WBA though as Foster did the same. Foster was also quoted at the time of his purchase that Dawson was a great guy, quite quiet and very competitive in training. I can see how that’s possibly construed as a bad attitude but I’m not convinced. I think it’s a pretty unsubstantiated rumour as far as his Watford career goes.

  17. barely1egal

I am critical of Foster for doing the same to be honest.

The difference is that Foster has had a positive impact in both of his times here. Dawson has been useless.

Foster was also apparently having a horrid time there at the end as that WBA documentary showed, and so I never really saw it as him wanting out because of the relegation. He always seemed happy enough to stick around with us this season.

If we get the reported £4m then we've done well. Suspect he is one of the highest earners in the defence, now the wrong side of 30, is 5th or 6th choice CB, and transfer fees in general have been reduced this summer.

One West Ham site suggesting because we've not yet paid the compo they want for for Ngakia, this will end up being a straight swap deal.

Fair play to him, managed to somehow play the majority of games for the last 5 seasons in the PL and looks like he'll make that 6 - impressive considering he's not particularly good.

Tribunals normally massively underpay for players though don’t they? Anything over £1m for Ngakia would be strange really doing by how these things normally go so I’d be shocked if it was anywhere near a straight swap.

I think we paid £4m to Liverpool for Sinclair having only offered <£2m in the last few months of his contract-the tribunal settled on £4m -they should have paid us for taking him !!

Natutally, on paper, a 'swap' deal between Ngakia and Dawson is a good deal for us, but now that we've got Ngakia for free/cheap, I would like us to get the supposed £4m for Dawson, I'm sure they can find that behind the back of the sofa

I don't profess to know more than a professional scout but surely a tape of Dawson last season is enough to put you off this?
