I've been doing the same when running, middle of the road when possible and more trail running to try and avoid people.

This whole situation combined with the past few years growing fashion of people declaring they have health issues, gender issues and an increasing sense of entitlement means this is a tinder box.

I shop with Ocado, every Friday night for the past couple of years we have had a delivery purely out of convenience. The last few weeks we've had fewer deliveries and taking them when we can. Needs must and all that. I took the time to look at the Ocado twitter feed and it is absolutely riddled with people giving them abuse about why they are more in need than anyone else. It seems every single Ocado customer has a health condition, lives with someone with a health condition or are disabled. So many people in disbelief that they can't get what they want, when they want.

This is a really horrid time, but also fascinating seeing how people are coping (or not) with it and how they act. It has brought out the absolute best and the very worst in people.

Well if you are running or walking you kind of need people to move and make space anyway..

I guess some probably go OTT about it at the moment though.

Ok, but it’s got little to do with health or gender issues. What you describe is pure consumerism.

Shame more didn't do that when voting in our racist, sexist, adulterous and habitual liar of a Prime Minister.

I do hope he gets better though.

Yup, Mrs UEA sees this every day in the shop she manages. Seems everyone has an excuse for why they need to be allowed to break the purchase limits. As you say though, it's also brought the best out in people. The chap buying a second four pack of Stellas for his 80yo gran was being really thoughtful.

I'm currently arguing with some nuts about this very point. I'm being accused of a lack of curiosity and critical thinking, for believing published scientists with verifiable bona fides, over crackpots on Youtube who have a thesaurus.

What about this state of panic? Can anyone think rationally or be sensible?
What about the media? A certain American news channel has shown coverage from an Italian hospital from days before claiming that it is happening live in NYC. You can see how things are accelerating there with panic.
Not to mention that the late comedian Eddie Large (RIP), who had heart problems and was in hospital. Was said that he had died after contracting COVID-19.
Look at the figures...look at the percentages of deaths of reputable figures in early 2020 on Wiki down to COVID-19, almost 50 percent. Same time last year, there were deaths...but they were from other causes.
Strains of flu, which mutates every year under a corona (crown) virus that most of us have caught but are either immune to it or have caught mild symptoms.
Then it goes with the testing, a Coronavirus yes but no conclusive cases on COVID-19. Look at the other respiratory diseases and see where they have fallen on death count.
People can't use cash in places to buy things but if you can use a terminal with a card, it's fine. As long as they wipe it down after every use.
Think it is OK to have a jog with the dog in the park but even then there might be drones overhead shaming you on social media.

“Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” Attributed to Mark Twain and reprised by George Carlin.

Aside from seeing a small section of the population here and abroad are very selfish the current crisis has also highlighted the sheer stupidity of some. You can proffer the scientific evidence, logically refute every argument but as with the anti vaccination brigade you will be called a government stooge, a member of Pharma or possibly a secret reptilian.

Sad to say some idiots the usual suspects abusing Guardiola because he manages the blue half of Manchester and they support the red. Makes you question what planet some people are on. As far as we know this virus causes severe pneumonia not flu. As they research deaths the surgeon they were talking to on Channel 4 mentioned secondary symptoms that kill even if fluid is forced out of the lungs by using oxygen. Such as myocarditis. For those of us with underlying health conditions it is a rather worrying time.

Too early of course to see if it is a continyed
For any event you can invent a conspiracy theory. For example that the sinking of the Titanic was an inside insurance job on behalf of the White Star Line. And if you repeat the lies often enough it somehow solidifies into fact for many. This is a real issue with social media. These people refuse to engage in any form of critical thinking or logic. What is concerning how so many of them there are.

I’ve read fewer administrators work at the weekend to process the death records. Hence three weekends in a row numbers on a Sunday/Monday (reporting 24hrs behind) are down only to them spike on Tuesday. Tomorrow will be a lot more telling.

A possible silver lining from this terrible virus could be improvements in our social care system, that is if we learn some lessons from what we have gone through in recent months.

Bed blocking has been a big problem in the NHS, with people who have been fit enough to leave hospital, but have had to stay because they had nowhere to go or anyone to help them with the non-medical care they still needed.

I have long thought that this problem could be solved within the hospitals, by opening up closed wards as convalescent wards where no real medical care is needed, which could be staffed by non-clinical staff, just carers.

However, what has been utilised because of this crises as a temporary solution to this problem could possibly be rolled out on a permanent basis, and that is the use of hotels. That is enough hotel owners think switching their business to a convalescent home on permanent basis is a good idea, and I think it is possible that a significant number of them might think it could be the way forward having experienced how it is during this crises.

    Just a thought.

Was thinking how does the world ever get back to normal & in unison. How do you go about coordinating that pre vaccine?

Say UK wants to get the population back to work as cases fall to a manageable level, but you have other Euro countries still battling it. I'm guessing this is going to change the face of air travel, more so than 9/11 ever did? What happens to Euro tunnel & flights etc? You could have whole entire routes cancelled if those countries do not have a hold on it?

Getting the virus under control will be a prerequisite for any country that wants to participate in the world of nations. There will be no travel to nations where it is not under control.

After that, I think it’s likely you won’t get on or off international travel without having your temperature taken and you’ll face quarantine if you get sick abroad. You could even need a recent test for the virus to book.

This summer will be of massive importance to the travel industry. I think it very likely that by the time of the school summer holidays flights to Spain will be back on. That gives a short timescale for both Governments to bring the virus down to very few new cases.

If we haven’t started to exit by the end of June, the economy is really going to tank.

The FCO has advised against all but essential travel outside the UK indefinitely as of today. Previously the advice was in place until mid-April. The change almost certainly means all pre-booked summer holidays will have to be cancelled and refunded.

That’s a biggie and yes changes a lot. I spoke to someone in the travel industry yesterday and their big hope was something out of the summer, with Spring sunshine seekers leading to a busier autumn. Once the money is refunded it’ll be hard to get it rebooked.

Over the years hospitals have tried a number of methods, including some step down or low intensity care beds. However, it's a bit like building roads, however many you create they will get filled, so they don't tend to put too much money into them.

Hotels could well be converted to residential care, but generally they are built for ambulant people. Older people recovering from strokes and broken hips need level access to adapted bathrooms with rails and access for hoists. This means that your hotel would need an almost complete refit. You could do this, but the next stumbling block is the phenomenal cost of the property. It may seem worthless now, but anything that can become flats is worth more money than can be made from care in the UK and who knows where people will be holidaying in the immediate future? Cheaper to get developers to purpose build it in return for getting to build homes.

And lastly, there isn't really in-between types of care funded in the UK. If you are going to recover then your old home is your home and getting you back in it is the priority. Residential and nursing care isn't really for the genteel retirement years of the elderly well any more (if it was). It's for people with very high levels of need who cannot manage in the community and ain't no one funding people with less needs.
