True, I didn't realise he only had a year left on his contract!

They need a replacement to loan to Bournemouth? I thought they had loads they could do that with.[/QUOTE]

Step up Josh McEachran, now is your time to shine.

Could be a close run thing as Bricey boy looked quite portly in his FA Cup cameo appearance but Troy has been doing more running around so logic suggests appetite might be stronger, Brice I believe still can only get a slipper on one foot (due to the injury not lack of bending down ability) so may need to be a seated event.

If we can get it arranged could I join in and be called placebo, I'm fat as you like and enjoy a pie (no vegetables though, maybe some mushroom) so might at least ensure there is competition.

Ha, excellent, 42 now and still hoping to break through into the first team, although accepts the half season loan to Blackpool to prove to Conte that he can step up to mans football.

He would definitely be in contention to get in our side. Not every player in the squad is going to be a guaranteed starter, it's good to have players adding a bit of competition, especially when they have just been part of a title winning side and looked good whenever he played.

I'm surprised you think he was poor at the Euros. I didn't watch every minute but every game I saw he played very well in and the media seem to have been raving about how good he was, even suggesting that had he been fully fit and able to last 90 minutes in the semi England would have probably beaten Germany.

I'd welcome this move massively. Alongside Hughes it would represent that we are building a team for the long term, and having two young talented English midfielders in the heart of midfield would be a great thing to see. With Watson and Berhami likely to move on we have room for Chalobah, Hughes and probably one more.

Along with Hughes, we'd have one of the most exciting midfield in the championship

I didn't see much of the tournament so can't comment how he played but he was included in the team of the tournament.. Not sure if it's the official one or just the Goal one though!

We want to sign Gnabry, he was the only one on that list to get four stars

Unless the rules have changed, I was under the impression that a club in the Premier League can only loan 1 player to another Premier League club. If this is still the case then I'm not sure how Swansea are favourites to sign him on loan (according to reports) and Abraham also on loan when both play for Chelsea.

Oh! Is that rule the reason why we didn't loan Aké as well as Kenedy last season? I always thought it was odd that we just snubbed Aké without any reason after he put in a solid shift for us throughout the entire season (forcing Holebas on the bench for most of the season)

We didn't snub Ake, he snubbed us. We wanted to get him back by all accounts and he chose Muff. So we ended up with Kenedy instead.

Well if he's on a par with Pickford then we must do all we can to get him!...

Frankly I'm not bothered, now we're Premier League we shouldn't be taking other PL teams' players on loan paying exorbitant fees and wages to improve someone else's player. If we want Chalobah, fine make an offer to buy otherwise move on.

While I agree with the sentiment, we aren't taking them on to improve someone else player. We would be taking them on to improve our team and chances of staying up. I'd prefer to loan from one of the big boys for a year than buy another Suarez, Jurado. If the loan works out then both clubs win.

Chalobah is in the last year of his contract, if he has no assurances of regular first team football from Chelsea, apparently he will not sign a new one. So they will be looking to sell. The best option for us is a season loan, with option to buy for pre agreed fee. If he performs well, we win. If not we still win.

If we take him on a season long loan, there will be no need for an option to buy as he will be available on a free.

What a d*ck... I think he should be greatful for the gametime he got given the lack of previous gametime in the Prem with Chelsea. Either way, I still rate him as one of the prospects to become very good and it's a shame it we couldn't convince him to join us permanently or on loan (especially for the asking price of £12 million which would've been a bargain by today's standards)

  22. TomH

I think part of it was to do with Bournmouth promising to play him in his preferred CB position but we weren't so ready and able to offer such assurances. I could be wrong but I seem to remember something along those lines!

  23. I thought, at the time he went to Muff, it was said they would be playing him in his preferred defensive midfield position.

Edit: yeah, just found this http://bbc.in/29JyMJh

Ah well, that's fair enough then... A bit disappointing on our part considering he was and is better than some of our current center backs

And can then sign for someone else though ! A cheapish outright purchase would be best in his case.

Mirror reporting we are in talks re a permanent transfer.

I have no idea how reputable the Mirror/John Cross are in terms of rumours but he seems pretty certain from the way it's written, saying we are 'in talks' rather than just 'interested'.

I'll be amazed if the fee is £5m plus add ons though. Happily amazed.

Final year of his contract. I'd expect they'd want a sell on fee for that amount however.

If it's £5m then he's a steal. I guess their will be quite a few addons and a possible buy back clause.

Would be very happy with this, if it comes off. Totally opposed to buy back clauses though. It creates a massive advantage for the larger clubs. A buy back option would make it closer to to a loan than a purchase and creates the potential for massive conflict of interest scenario. Such clauses should be banned.

Normally I wouldn't believe John Cross or that rag but @chelseayouth on Twitter seem to generally have their finger on the pulse regarding Chelsea's dealings. They say that we've been in talks for a while and a deal is close. Exciting times.

I hope so. I like the way this window is developing. An excellent player who is only going to get better. Ray Wilkins will pull the last two hairs out of his head if we pull this off.

Sell on is fine for a reasonable percentage, but agree re: Buyback. Look at Barcelona re: Deulofeu
