The point is that it's all so pointlessly amateurish. But we'll see now ...

If this is the way that football and Watford FC is going, I can see myself rapidly losing interest in this club.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...if this shakes your love of Watford, I would suggest it wasn't that robust in the first place.

I also felt sorry for Sannini, Molar and Shane Douche.

I would like thank Scott Duxbury for the time he gave me today and the constructive meeting we had. I hope to have some more news soon.

**** the head coach situation, we've got bigger problems! Luther and the other bloke are pretty dreadful but I'd still have them over him!

Short: But I've got an appointment with my support group then, I'm making real progress about toning the whole thing down.
Duxbury: Good to know but as I sai...
Short: Plus I have all these new great ideas.
Duxbury: **Getting into car** Great. But like I said, not today. I'll speak to you tomorrow. Stop waiting outside the building.
Short: Ok, tomorrow then. **Duxbury drives off** Enjooooooooy yoooouuuur daaaaay.

I think we're all jumping the gun a bit here - it certainly looks like Billy McKinlay has been dealt the ****ty end of the stick but until we hear both sides of the story I think we should reserve judgement.

The Pozzo's are determined to get it right here, whatever it takes - like most businesses you have to be ruthless, but also fair, I hope BMcK has been financially 'looked after' and over time we can look back on this episode, cringe a little yes, but move on and celebrate a successful team.

Looking back, the Pozzo's bent over backwards to retain GFZ, who knows what would have happened if they had brought Billy in to assist him at the time it was all going pear-shaped.

What we don't know is what went on as soon as Garcia experienced his chest problems - did the club know from then that he wasn't going to return? or did they genuinely think he would be fit to continue, then when Oscar chucked it in - they were left with a massive problem, made a knee-jerk reaction and then realised it was not the way they wanted to proceed. Hard as it may sound, better to react quickly than let it drift on. All conjecture I know, but I really do suggest let's hold fire until all the facts are known...

Last night when it looked like McKinlay had shafted us to join Fulham everyone on here to a man called into question his loyalty, claimed he was not a man of his word, had and left us up s**t creek and that he was as bad as Rodgers. If this was the case I'm sure everyone would still be saying that on here now and declaring Fulham as our new rivals etc.

    Surely it works both ways?

Perhaps 'embarrassed' was not the right word - I think it's extremely unprofessional, could put people off in the future etc.

Part of me wonders if this wasn't a case of not being able to agree terms on a financial contract. British players and staff generally expect more than their foreign counterparts.

Possible scenario: no contract in place on Thursday, negotiations start Friday, McKinlay wants more than the club is willing to pay, McKinlay looks around for other offers, the club find out and replace him since he won't go back to his original position of hire.

There are so many permutations here. I'm sure the details will come out eventually.

I may have missed it as this thread is so long, but is it just me that thinks McKinley has been **** in from a great height, not sure if I am overstepping the mark until all the facts are out. The owners did not even make the usual "go on record Nd thank him blah blah" the bloke quit the ni role, I doubt they will let him have that back? Hopefully. Not sure if he had actually signed a contract so will he get a payoff? I know footy is a cut throat business and McKinley may have thought nothing of walking out and taking the Fulham job, as what a few of us believed was the case.

I like to think these owners know their stuff but we are turning into a laughing stock.

Is there more behind the scenes that no one knows about?

If bas was in charge and we had 4 managers in 2 months we would be going mad at him.

Just seems a bit strange, to say the least and no one can give any answers, left guessing

It's a shame the club have not done an 'At Your Place' this year. Just imagine the questions re Beppe, Garcia, McKinlay, the new bloke I can't pronounce or spell, the east stand, the south west corner, Nani etc etc

Communication from the club seems to be on the wane. Would be handy to have a longer statement from the club and an interview with the new coach, is he even in the country yet?

I wondered about the contract bit. I think it would be hard for WFC to argue that there was not an implicit contract and so I expect he would have received a pay off.

Happy bunny Cheered up a bit

There's a bloke coming to the Cardiff match (unless he's so pissed off that he cancels) who had everyone pulling in the same direction, players, coaches, admin staff, and really made the fans feel part of it. That has been dissipated over the years, but even Bas pretended that he wanted to talk to the fans, even if he was always prevented by a last-minute illness or injury.

The Pozzos don't pretend. We're customers who pay our money to view an entertainment provided by the UK subsidiary of an international business. I don't know what Pozzo senior or Pozzo junior look like or sound like, and have no idea of their personalities at all. Some Italian guy, I forget his name, is chairman, but I don't know anything about him either, what he does or what the point of him is. Sadly, many members of the forum seem to be perfectly happy with this - "it's the Pozzos' money, they can do what they want," they say. True, but ...

When I moved to Herts in GT's first season, I opted to follow Watford as a community club. It isn't now. If I was starting out in this area, I'd go to Arsenal, which is also a soulless football corporation but does it better. However, I've got more than 30 years of emotional investment here so I'm stuck with Watford.

COYH, I suppose. And when Troy and Matty are knocking in the goals, I'll cheer as loudly as anyone.

Excellent post. And the solution would be simply for Gino Pozzo to become more visible, give interviews and attend matches etc. He doesn't have to change the model. Most on here can see how that works to our advantage and has already worked big time for two other clubs. Maybe he feels unappreciated. He shouldn't. Only a minority are silly enough not to appreciate how much our club has changed for the better since the days of madcap, self-centered Bas. Maybe he's just shy. No need. You'd be very welcome when you take your seat at the Vic Gino.

Very grubby, exactly the kind of behaviour I was hoping wouldn't occur when the Pozzo's took over. Even if the new guy is bang on then it doesn't make it good as the way it has been handled is shambolic.

What if the new bloke turns out to be rubbish...how long will they give him before he gets the bullet?

What if Slavi*a Jokanovi* was approached to originally replace Beppe Sannino only to turn Watford down.

Watford get Oscar Garcia in who brings his own assistants with him and also recommends Billy McKinlay becomes the British coach the hierarchy want (this is reported in the Watford Observer).

Garcia falls ill, Pozzo again approaches
Jokanovi* who says no and McKinlay is promoted.

Slavi*a Jokanovi* now has a change of heart (who knows what's going on at Hercules!), contacts Gino who is now able to appoint his original choice before McKinlay's contract is fully sorted.

Yes, he's treated McKinlay pretty shabbily but sees getting his 1st choice and some bad publicity a better option than taking his 3rd choice (Garcia being #2) and forseeing a wasted season with a 1st time manager.

Massive overreaction. We're still a community club. We still do loads more than most clubs in the local community, I worked at Cedars youth centre for a while and they do so much good stuff, which was all funded by our club.

The only real difference between now and before, is that we have the resources to get better players and therefore don't have to play 18 year olds who aren't good enough from our academy. All the other owners were in it for the same reason... Money. The only owner who really cared was Elton, but footballs moved on since then.

But what is SJ was in fact second choice and that first choice Tony Pulis has a change of heart in 8 days time and contacts Gino. Will SJ get the chop? What if...

  29. Franks Wobbly article made me think

None of us know the facts, but what we do know is the Pozzos inherited and sorted out all of the Baz cr*p, gave us an incredible squad with players we've grown to love, paid to keep star player Deeney, built the new stand.... they have been straight with the club and supporters from day one

In my book they've earned the right to some benefit of the doubt

Of course they have. I am sure all on here are giving them the benefit of the doubt.

But that is different from being immune from all criticism. That is different from following blindly every decision they make without any sort of scrutiny whatsoever.

Great post. I should also add that football is a business, a big business. The fans are sometimes an inconvenient distraction to the business aims. Sad, but true.
