Why on earth are they embarrassing? Should we just sign a British player even though it's not the best recruitment to make?

 

This bloke is an excellent signing. Very possibly our best of the summer.

 

Is there a way of disliking a post more than once? Like a thousand times?

 

Not sure why we signed him, an AM was hardly priority

But if we are playing three attacking midfielders/withdrawn strikers behind Deeney like we have been doing in pre season then id suggest we were little light in this area prior to this signing.

A Fiorentina-supporting Italian friend of mine told me that Diamanti was very good for them when he started but his form trailed off after their former manager lost faith in him.

He did say though that Diamanti is extremely talented and that he will definitely make a positive difference to the side. My friend is gutted that Fiorentina haven't renewed the loan, partly because Diamanti's wife is an absolute stunner!!

 

His wife is Chinese. Another reason why he could have joined Guangzhou without being a simple mercenary

Not keen on 2 of last year's out and out strikers (particularly Vydra) being converted to midfielders.....we need more attacking power, not less!

 

They're not really midfielders though are they. Call them wide forwards if it helps.

 

I agree mate, its not the formation I would choose but it seems to be what the gaffer is picking in pre season..

Id like to see Deeney and Ighalo start as out and out strikers

 

West Brom tried that with Vydra......

He is at his most dangerous on the shoulder IMO

 

But the two have played as strikers!!! They did against Sevilla! They're not just stuck in a 4-2-3-1 formation!

 

He can still play on the shoulder. When he and Troy played up front last season he dropped off and made runs from deep, there's no reason why that should change this season.

 

Formations describe the shape without the ball. We might be 4231 without the ball but with it the full backs will look to press on, one of the DMs maybe will drop in to make a back 3, and the second striker will push up alongside Deeney. It might look more like 3142 for instance .

 

There were plenty of reasons why it didn't work at West Brom. Injuries and management changes all played a part in him never getting going.

It would be wrong to write off his potential as a wide forward based on that. Vydra is two years older now, a far more complete player both technically and mentally. He will suit the role in my opinion, as long as he is given a license to run in behind.

 

My West Ham mates in the pub are gobsmacked that we've got him.

We're not looking short of midfield creativity with this bloke, Jurado, and Abdi in the squad.

Vydra was a younger player then... and he's still young now.

For a club that has brought so many good players through, we don't half have a lot of utterly thick fans who can't understand the concept of player development.

 

There's one very important fact you are missing about vydra. He is massively a confidence player. When he hits form and comfortable in his surroundings, he is unplayable. He had gone from top dog at Watford, to a nothing a WBA....he would need never succeed unless he is happy.

and that's entirely my point....he's gone from a heavily involved striker to a part time midfielder.....that will certainly help his confidence.

I really think he is going to be another amazing addidition by the Pozzo's. If we bring in Ledesma as well to solidify our CM position and have Watson as 4th choice then that would be us sorted a sort from 1 or 2 HG loans in.
