Just because it came as a bit of a shock for the likes of deeney to see a player on the pitch who can actually cross the ball and therefore didn't get on the end of them. I thought diamante put in some insanely good crosses, the one near the end when the ball was almost out for a goal kick reminded me of the ex-Liverpool player we never talk about. He's not really match sharp but looked lively.

 

No, Diamanté did not make a difference when he came on today. That's far from me having a pop at him, but 9 out of 10 crossing attempts hit the bloke in front of him.

It's alright. We're bringing in a 'direct' winger this week that will play instead of him or Jurado and can cross. Hopefully.

 

I still think we're going to splash a serious amount of wedge this week. A winger with a bit of pace is what we do need. In other positions I think we're good for cover.

 

Thought Diamanti was dog****e today, but like others have said I suspect a large part of that was down to fitness. Somehow I suspect that the Chinese Premier League isn't quite as tough as the EPL!

 

Yes I did, I've seen them all since Mercer & Mayes. Great player, almost as good a finisher as Vydra :]]

 

If he's not fit and can't run around for 45 mins he shouldn't be in the match day squad until he is.

 

I'd say he showed his quality a few times, and did more in a half than Deeney and especially Ighalo did all match.

There's something in the way he hits a ball for a cross which I would have died for when I played as a winger.

He wasn't sharp, and some of his balls hit the first man and our team looked worse as a unit when he came on but that was to do with Quique's tactics. I think he will be one of our main stars this season.

 

I didn't think he was as bad as dogs***t he's got a beautiful touch and did a couple of nice lay offs.. I would nt say he looked unfit I'd say he looked OLD !!!! Bl00dy OLD !!!! He didn't sprint once all half... Several times Gomes was looking for a quick throw and Diamental was walking to the touch line with his back to him..
My favourite bit today was when he got the ball in space 20 yards out, middle of the pitch and you could feel everyone thinking.... You can't give him that space with his foot.. Is goal time and WHOOOOOOSH there it went curling off to the corner flag 50 yards high.

When you watch other top clubs playing this formation it's all about the 3 behind the main striker being interchangeable, quick and bright. If they lack pace to go beyond the main striker you are going to struggle at this level to get behind their defense. Anya should have stayed out on the right with Holebas overlapping with Nyom on the flanks. If Jurado struggles out left them move him Central or take him off. I'm hoping Berghuis and a new winger can offer this in this formation or we may continue to offer little going forward.

 

Mighty Mo was by far a better finisher than Matt V.

Worked very well with Anya down the left. Plus a peach of a corner that we should of scored from.

 

He's taken Vydra's place in the squad. Some people are always going to hate him now whatever he does.

 

Matter of opinion. We created so many chances back in those days even West and Falco scored hatfuls for us ! I can remember Mo missing plenty of chances even though he was great and scored at a great rate. I can barely remember Vydra missing a decent chance. Ok his input outside scoring might need some work but one-on-one no-one has been better. But that's just my view and I've no problem with you disagreeing !

 

You're joking right? Our delivery from wide was poor (Anya got 0 from 9 attempts) but when Diamante got 2-3 of his crosses in they were top quality, with pace and begging to be attacked. Yes, he tried to be a bit cute on occasions and hit the ball against the defender but he was far more effective than you are making out and seemed to link up with Anya pretty well.

 

Come to think of it your probably right. I can't remember Vydra missing any decent chances. But Vydra will get his chance if his head is right.

 

He looks like he has an incredible left foot.

Interesting to read that you thought he worked well with Anya. From what I could see, Anya was owning that left flank and was performing the duties of both a left back and a left winger. I thought Diamanti was a passenger yesterday if I'm honest and needs match fitness ASAP, though you're right about the corner he produced.

I was not impressed by this guy yesterday, fair enough he is probably not up to full fitness yet, so hopefully he will live up to his hype when he gets there.

Having said that why was he included ahead of others who are fit and ready to go; he needs to earn his right to play, not just walk into the team on repretation alone, which appears to be what happened yesterday, at least I hope that is the case, and not that what we saw from him yesterday is what we are going to get!

 

No not really, I thought he looked bloody rusty and wasteful when he came on. I'm not slamming him because he's just joined us, but he shouldn't really be coming on not ready.

 

Thank god he is only a loan.If I was vydra I would be thinking how the hell has this bloke made the team and I have not.Just can't believe Vydra,Abdi& FF are not even in the starting 11 or featuring in games.3 of our best players being left out.To me that's why we are not scoring goals.

How many times last season did Vydra, Abdi and FF start together? If any? Maybe there were games but I can't think of one. Why then should they start together this season?

 

I've found it amusing reading some of these threads while being away and not seeing the games. This is the best one though where a player has basically been written off after 45 minutes. As for Vydra, he has to take his chance when it comes but he is certainly the best finisher I've seen since Mighty Mo who was unbelievable.

 

They have all featured in games together even if just parts of the same games when needed and used to a good effect.over many years of this club there has not been many players better than these in our history.

 

Trust me it was hard enough watching him for 45mins that was enough for me thanks even he was laughing at himself.

Good few lethal balls right into the danger area, a bit of nice link up play with Anya. Not a match winning performance by an means but certainly a promising start.

If that qualifies as dog****e, then I dread to think what that makes Ighalo and Deeney.
