If 15 isn't exactly a kiddie then is 14? 13? The line is there for a reason and we all know where it is, even millionaire footballers with beautiful girlfriends.

 

Underage yes but there is another line (under 14 I think) where it becomes much more serious. Let's face it, most 15 year olds have at least some sexual experience.

I'd have to dig a long way to get back to my youth however I reckon 75% of the girls in my class had already gone this far by the age of 16.

 

I don't disagree and Johnson deserves prison time for sure but five years considering it wasn't against her will (apparently)? Some bank robbers get less.

Her will doesn't come into it. She's a child, sexual activity with a child when you're an adult is wrong and therefore illegal and that's the end of the matter really.

An ex of mine started young (13), she got caught sha99ing by her parents who called the police and he got twelve months, (I think he was 21 and no it's not me, this happened long before I knew her). I know things have changed but that was full blown sex, not just a finger in the pudding.

5-10 years sounds excessive for what AJ has done in comparison.

I can Lind of see wher Godfather is coming from. Nobody can say that a grown man seducing a 15 year old girl isn't wrong, but I would say that it is important not to mix up that level of wrong with the sort of people who prey on prepubescent children.

One is bad, the other is worse. Sixteen is the line. But there are still grades of wrongness underneath it.

I also think that five years sounds like a long sentence. You can effectively murder people and plea bargain down to sentences like that (enter UAE to completely disprove that with facts).

This is a harsh lesson for any young man tempted to play with jailbait. Johnson's career and the best part of his life is effectively ruined. Hopefully this acts as a deterrent.

 

I think, people confuse what he did with the actual ease of him doing it, because he didn't have the sense, guts, humanity, call it what you will to walk away, from the situation in the first place he took advantage of an underage person.

This was to him easy to do, as easy as say " stealing a loaf of bread from a shop " however because his crime was so serious, this is why his sentence will be a lot heavier than he would have got for " stealing the loaf "

Had he done the same thing with a girl one year older, or waited 12 months he probably wouldn't have been facing prison!

 

He didn't want to wait 12 months as with people like him, the attraction is to the fact that she is under 16. If it wasn't, as soon as she told him he would have backed off. Instead he took advantage. He said in his own testimony that he wanted to have sex with her.

The guy is a sexual predator and I truly hope that whatever prison he goes to has a couple of burly Newcastle United supporters there to show him the error of his ways.

 

Isn't this the crux of it? Johnson knew it and actively pursued her. It's not the same as pulling someone in a nightclub and thinking they are 18. Dunno where law stands on this but to me this is a big difference?

 

If you reasonably believe the person is over 16 you're not guilty of the offence. Reasonable belief being a matter of fact for the jury to determine.

It was shown in court that after he first met her he did an internet search on the legal age of consent on his PC. Even if he was too na*ve at the outset, certainly after the internet search he should have stopped the situation getting worse.

He refused to name any of the teammates involved as he knew he was lying and quite honestly, if his best mate Steven Fletcher wouldn't testify on his behalf, why would any of the others?
